The goal of this paper is threefold. First, we trace the history of the development of answer set solvers, by accounting for more than a dozen of them. Second, we discuss development tools and environments that facilitate the use of answer set programming technology in practical applications. Last, we present the evolution of the answer set programming competitions, prime venues for tracking advances in answer set solving technology.

Students in introductory physics struggle with vector algebra and these challenges are often associated
with contextual and representational features of the problems. Performance on problems about cross product
direction is particularly poor and some research suggests that this may be primarily due to misapplied right-
hand rules. However, few studies have had the resolution to explore student use of right-hand rules in detail.
This study reviews literature in several disciplines, including spatial cognition, to identify ten contextual and
representational problem features that are most likely to influence performance on problems requiring a

Student Conceptions Of Expertise, Charles Bertram, Anne E. Leak, Eleanor C. Sayre, Mary Bridget Kustusch, Scott V. Franklin

We report on student beliefs about what constitutes expertise. Our population is a group of first-generation and deaf/hard-of-hearing students participating in a pre-matriculation university program designed to encourage reflection and metacognitive practice. Students first worked in small groups to articulate criteria that defined expertise and then engaged in a class discussion in which a formal definition was developed. All activities were recorded and student discourse analyzed, revealing a nuanced and evolving understanding of expertise.

Two biologically important compounds with clinical relevance, asymmetric dimethylarginine and symmetric dimethylarginine, are analyzed using aqueous normal phase chromatography on silica hydride-based columns. Two different stationary phases were tested, a commercially available Diamond Hydride™ and a 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid experimental column. Two types of analytical protocols were investigated: analysis of the compounds when separation was achieved and analysis of the compounds with partial chromatographic separation. Urine samples from tuberculosis patients were tested for levels of asymmetric and symmetric dimethylarginine. Modeling The Evolution Of Dynamic Brain Processes During An Associative Learning Experiment, Mark Fiecas, Hernando Ombao

Our goal is to use local field potentials (LFPs) to rigorously study changes in neuronal activity in the hippocampus and the nucleus accumbens over the course of an associative learning experiment. We show that the spectral properties of the LFPs changed during the experiment. While many statistical models take into account nonstationarity within a single trial of the experiment, the evolution of brain dynamics across trials is often ignored. In this paper, we developed a novel time series model that captures both sources of nonstationarity. Under the proposed model we rigorously define the spectral density matrix so that it evolves …

Background: Dengue is endemic throughout Cambodia, a country faced with significant health and economic challenges. We undertook a clinical study at the National Paediatric Hospital in Phnom Penh to evaluate clinical diagnostic parameters for dengue and predictors of disease outcome. Methods: Between September 2011 and January 2013, all consecutive inpatients aged between 1 and 15 years and presenting with suspected dengue were enrolled. They were clinically assessed using both the 1997 and 2009 WHO dengue classifications. Specimens were collected upon admission and discharge and tested for dengue at Institut Pasteur in Cambodia. A recent publication in The Lancet by Cordeiro and colleagues reported levels of IgM for Zika (ZIKV) and dengue (DENV) viruses in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 31 infants born with microcephaly in Brazil. 1 Their study suggests higher titers in CSF relative to serum in individual neonates, but no quantitative comparisons were reported. In this short report, the differences in antibody titers are quantified and compared between sample sources; across sampling periods; and between sample sources within individual neonates to more comprehensively understand these data to inform serological surveillance.
