To enhance the expression ability of distributional word representation learning model, many researchers tend to induce word senses through clustering, and learn multiple embedding vectors for each word, namely multi-prototype word embedding model. This paper proposes the novel Pose Guided Person Generation Network (PG$^2$) that allows to synthesize person images in arbitrary poses, based on an image of that person and a novel pose. Our generation framework PG^2 utilizes the pose information explicitly and consists of two key stages: pose integration and image refinement. In the first stage the condition image and the target pose are fed into a U-Net-like network to generate an initial but coarse image of the person with the target pose. In a security-conscious world, and with the rapid increase in the global urbanized population, there is a growing challenge for law enforcement agencies to efficiently respond to emergency calls. We consider the problem of spatially and temporally optimizing the allocation of law enforcement resources such that the quality of service (QoS) in terms of emergency response time can be guaranteed. At the end of each course, students are required to give feedback on the course and instructor. This feedback includes quantitative rating using Likert scale and qualitative feedback as comments. Such qualitative feedback can provide valuable insights in helping the instructor enhance the course content and teaching delivery. However, the main challenge in analysing the qualitative feedback is the perceived increase in time and effort needed to manually process the textual comments. Device-free localization, which does not require any device attached to the target, is playing a critical role in many applications, such as intrusion detection, elderly monitoring and so on. This paper introduces D-Watch, a device-free system built on the top of low cost commodity-off-the-shelf RFID hardware. Unlike previous works which consider multipaths detrimental, D-Watch leverages the ''bad'' multipaths to provide a decimeter-level localization accuracy without offline training. D-Watch harnesses the angle-of-arrival information from the RFID tags' backscatter signals. In this paper, we study domain adaptationwith a state-of-the-art hierarchicalneural network for document-level sentimentclassification. We first design a newauxiliary task based on sentiment scoresof domain-independent words. We thenpropose two neural network architecturesto respectively induce document embeddingsand sentence embeddings that workwell for different domains. When thesedocument and sentence embeddings areused for sentiment classification, we findthat with both pseudo and external sentimentlexicons, our proposed methods canperform similarly to or better than severalhighly competitive domain adaptationmethods on a benchmark dataset of productreviews.

Protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks play an important role in studying the functional roles of proteins, including their association with diseases. However, protein interaction networks are not sufficient without the support of additional biological knowledge for proteins such as their molecular functions and biological processes. In this research, we evaluate the applicability of using facial recognition of social media account profile pictures to infer the demographic attributes of gender, race, and age of the account owners leveraging a commercial and well-known image service, specifically Face++. Our goal is to determine the feasibility of this approach for actual system implementation. Using a dataset of approximately 10,000 Twitter profile pictures, we use Face++ to classify this set of images for gender, race, and age. One of the reasons for using personas is to align user understandings across project teams and sites. As part of a larger persona study, at Al Jazeera English (AJE), we conducted 16 qualitative interviews with media producers, the end users of persona descriptions. We asked the participants about their understanding of a typical AJE media consumer, and the variety of answers shows that the understandings are not aligned and are built on a mix of own experiences, own self, assumptions, and data given by the company. In this paper, we formally consider the construction of tightly secure deterministic public key encryption (D-PKE). Initially, we compare the security loss amongst the D-PKE schemes under the concrete assumptions and also analyze the tightness of generic D-PKE constructions. Furthermore, we prove that the CPA secure D-PKE scheme of Boldyreva et al. (Crypto’08) is tightly PRIV-IND-CPA secure for block-sources. Our security reduction improves the security loss of their scheme from O(nc∗) to O(1). Groundwater is a significant fresh water source in most areas and can be affected by potential changes to climate and precipitation from anthropogenic influences. Considering groundwater and surface water can be regarded as one hydrologic system, it is significant to understand the dynamics between precipitation, shallow groundwater and surface water in order to manage these resources.

We report spatially resolved perpendicular and parallel, to the magnetic field, ion velocity distribution function (IVDF) measurements in an expanding argon helicon plasma. The parallel IVDFs, obtained through laser induced fluorescence (LIF), show an ion beam with v ≈ 8000 m/s flowing downstream and confined to the center of the discharge. The ion beam is measurable for tens of centimeters along the expansion axis before the LIF signal fades, likely a result of metastable quenching of the beam ions. Chlorine-based sanitizers have seen wide spread use in food sanitation. The reaction of chlorine species with organic matter is a concern for two reasons. Available chlorine can be “used up” by organic compounds resulting in a lower amount of chlorine available for disinfection. Another concern is that some forms of chlorine can react with some organic compounds to form toxic halogenated disinfection byproducts (DBPs). In recent years, anisotropic materials have gained considerable interest for novel applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices, mostly due to unique properties that originate from reduced crystal symmetry. Examples include white solid-state lighting devices which have become ubiquitous just recently, and the emergence of high-power, high-voltage electronic transistors and switches in all-electric vehicles. These projections were applied to Greater London, UK as areal interpolated historical census data was overlaid on a 50m DEM alongside a polyline projection of the Thames Barrier. Population was projected to milestones of 2041, 2071, and 2101 using a capped, aggregated growth rate for each polygon while SLR was simulated for 1m, 5m, and 9m scenarios. High-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) has become the preferred choice for transcriptomics and gene expression studies. With the rapid growth of RNA-seq applications, sample size calculation methods for RNA-seq experiment design and data normalization methods for DEG analysis are important issues to be explored and discussed. The underlying theme of this dissertation is to develop novel sample size calculation methods in RNA-seq experiment design using test statistics.
