The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array observations of protoplanetary disks acquired by the Disk Substructure at High Angular Resolution Project resolve the dust and gas emission on angular scales as small as 3 astronomical units, offering an unprecedented detailed view of the environment where planets form. In this Letter, we present and discuss observations of the HD 163296 protoplanetary disk that imaged the 1.25 mm dust continuum and 12CO J = 2–1 rotational line emission at a spatial resolution of 4 and 10 au, respectively. The continuum observations resolve and allow us to characterize the previously discovered dust rings at radii …

The Disk Substructures at High Angular Resolution Project (DSHARP) is the largest homogeneous high-resolution (~0 035, or ~5 au) disk continuum imaging survey with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) so far. In the coming years, many more disks will be mapped with ALMA at similar resolution. Interpreting the results in terms of the properties and quantities of the emitting dusty material is, however, a very non-trivial task. This is in part due to the uncertainty in the dust opacities, an uncertainty that is not likely to be resolved any time soon. It is also partly due to the fact …

Predicting Post-Procedural Complications Using Neural Networks On Mimic-Iii Data, Namratha Mohan
LSU Master's Theses
The primary focus of this paper is the creation of a Machine Learning based algorithm for the analysis of large health based data sets. Our input was extracted from MIMIC-III, a large Health Record database of more than 40,000 patients. The main question was to predict if a patient will have complications during certain specified procedures performed in the hospital. These events are denoted by the icd9 code 996 in the individuals' health record. The output of our predictive model is a binary variable which outputs the value 1 if the patient is diagnosed with the specific complication or 0 …

Shock-Absorbing Vibrations Of The Elastic Elastomeric End Of The Rotary Inertia, N.J Khujatov, N.I Abdikarimov
Central Asian Problems of Modern Science and Education
The problem of the longitudinal vibrations of the elastic strerin of the longitudinal impact of the second free end of the end of the tape is settled on the basis of the second order (classic) differential equation. Depending on the nature of stroke endings and the nature and conditions of the impact, the initial and boundary conditions of the problem were found. To solve the problem, a structured block scheme was created, using a duplicate scheme. Created a structured block-scheme based on "Pascal" and the results were obtained.

Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit: Staff Publications
Home range estimation is an important analytical method in applied spatial ecology, yet best practices for addressing the effects of spatial variation in detection probability on home range estimates remain elusive. We introduce the R package “DiagnoseHR,” simulation tools for assessing how variation in detection probability arising from landscape, animal behavior, and methodological processes affects home range inference. We demonstrate the utility of simulation methods for home range analysis planning by comparing bias arising from three home range estimation methods under multiple detection scenarios. We simulated correlated random walks in three landscapes that varied in detection probability and constructed home …

Considering The Non-Programming Geographer's Perspective When Designing Extracurricular Introductory Computer Programming Workshops, Thomas R Etherington
Considering The Non-Programming Geographer's Perspective When Designing Extracurricular Introductory Computer Programming Workshops, Thomas R Etherington
Journal of Spatial Information Science
Computer programming is becoming an increasingly important scientific skill, but geographers are not necessarily receiving this training as part of their formal education. While there are efforts to promote and support extracurricular introductory computer programming workshops, there remain questions about how best to deliver these workshops. Therefore, as part of a recent introductory programming extracurricular workshop I organized for non-programing geographers, I tried to understand more about their perceptions of computer programming. I identify that one of the most important aspects for geographers to learn to computer program is to have training that is domain specific to ensure that the …

Towards Harmonizing Property Measurement Standards, Abdullah Kara, Volkan Çağdaş, Ümit Işıkdağ, Bülent Onur Turan
Journal of Spatial Information Science
Area and volume values of buildings and building parts have been used in many applications including taxation, valuation and land use planning. Many countries maintain a national standard for representing the measurements of floor areas in buildings. The national standards generally use similar basis for measuring building floor areas, in fact, areas specified in national standards often have semantic differences. Therefore, a number of international standards have been developed for harmonizing floor area measurements; however, they also have differences. This study aims at harmonizing the floor areas defined in the international property measurement standards by revealing the semantic relations between …

Hyper-Local Geographically Weighted Regression: Extending Gwr Through Local Model Selection And Local Bandwidth Optimization, Alexis Comber, Yunqiang Wang, Yihe Lü, Xingchang Zhang, Paul Harris
Journal of Spatial Information Science
Geographically weighted regression (GWR) is an inherently exploratory technique for examining process non-stationarity in data relationships. This paper develops and applies a hyper-local GWR which extends such investigations further. The hyper-local GWR simultaneously optimizes both local model selection (which covariates to include in each local regression) and local kernel bandwidth specification (how much data should be included locally). These are evaluated using a measure of model fit. The hyper-local GWR approach evaluates different kernel bandwidths at each location and selects the most parsimonious local regression model. By allowing models and bandwidths to vary locally, this approach extends and refines the …
Georeferencing Places From Collective Human Descriptions Using Place Graphs, Hao Chen, Stephan Winter, Maria Vasardani
Georeferencing Places From Collective Human Descriptions Using Place Graphs, Hao Chen, Stephan Winter, Maria Vasardani
Journal of Spatial Information Science
Place descriptions in everyday communication or in online text provide a rich source of spatial knowledge about places. Such descriptions typically consist of references to places and spatial relationships between them. An important step to utilize such knowledge in information systems is georeferencing the referred places. Beside place name disambiguation, another challenge is that a significant proportion of place references in such descriptions are not official place names indexed by gazetteers, thus cannot be resolved easily. This paper presents a novel approach for georeferencing places from collective descriptions using place graphs, regardless of whether they are referred to by gazetteered …

Towards Place-Based Exploration Of Instagram: Using Co-Design To Develop An Interdisciplinary Geovisualization Prototype, Catherine Emma Jones, Daniele Guido, Marta Severo
Journal of Spatial Information Science
An abundance of geographic information is hidden within texts and multimedia objects that has the potential to enrich our knowledge about the relationship between people and places. One such example is the geographic information embedded within user-generated content collected and curated by the social media giants. Such geographic data can be encoded either explicitly as geotags or implicitly as geographical references expressed as texts that comprise part of a title or image caption. To use such data for knowledge building there is a need for new mapping interfaces. These interfaces should support both data integration and visualization, and geographical exploration …

Intercapacitance Between Two Charges Located In The Different Environments, A.E Abdikarimov, A Yusupov, A.E Atamuratov
Central Asian Problems of Modern Science and Education
It is investigated the dependence of intercapacitance between two point charges located in different environments on the relative position of border. The image method is used. It is considered two cases: the charges is located at line which is perpendicular to the border and the charges is located at line which is not perpendicular to the border. The result show that in both cases the capacitance is increased with displacement the border.

Estimating The Sediment Flux And Budget For A Data Limited Rift Valley Lake In Ethiopia, Alemu O. Aga, Assefa M. Melesse
Department of Earth and Environment
Information on sediment concentration in rivers is important for the design and management of reservoirs. In this paper, river sediment flux and siltation rate of a rift valley lake basin (Lake Ziway, Ethiopia) was modeled using suspended sediment concentration (SSC) samples from four rivers and lake outlet stations. Both linear and non-linear least squares log–log regression methods were used to develop the model. The best-fit model was tested and evaluated qualitatively by time-series plots, quantitatively by using watershed model evaluation statistics, and validated by calculating the prediction error. Sediment yield (SY) of ungauged rivers were assessed by developing and using …

Neutron transfer and nucleus breakup cross sections in (11Li + 9Be) -reaction are calculated at energy range up to 32 MeV/nucleon. The evolution of probability density of external weakly bound neutrons of 11Li and the probabilities of neutron transfer and nucleus breakup are determined based on a numerical solution of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation. Our calculation results are agree with the experiment.

Ion-plasma sputtering and code position of Mo and Cd ultrafine particles have been used for the first time to prepare solid solutions that are alloys with a concentration up to 57.3 at. % Cd in the film; this confirms the thermal-fluctuation and coalescence of small particles. When coatings are formed by molyb-denum and cadmium nanolayers less than 2 nm in the concentrations range of 60-66 at. % Cd, a new phase was found that was prepared directly in the course of film coating formation; it was identified as the MoCd2 compound with a tetragonal face-centered lattice, with the parameters …
Some Radiation Effects In Ii-Vi Quantum Dots, M. B. Sharibaev, Q. A. Ismailov
Some Radiation Effects In Ii-Vi Quantum Dots, M. B. Sharibaev, Q. A. Ismailov
Eurasian Journal of Physics and Functional Materials
The effect of electron irradiation (E=0.6-1.8 MeV) on the optical characteristics (photoluminescence, PL) of CdTe/ZnTe structures with quantum dots, QDs, was investigated in the temperature range from 4.2 to 250 K. The data on the influence of irradiation on the temperature dependence of PL intensity, energy position and PL line width, W, from QDs were obtained. The narrowing of PL band and the blue shift of the QD peak position are explained by quenching of the low energy component connected with larger QDs. A slight decrease in PL intensity for both QDs and the buffer ZnTe layer as well as …

The primary purpose of this work is to advance new sample preparation and analytical methods for ice core tephrochronology. When a volcanic source can be accurately identified using volcanic glass particle geochemistry, it may provide a robust time reference for the ice core’s timescale. The presence of an identifiable tephra layer may also suggest atmospheric pathways at the time of deposition, or assist in reconstructing volcanic forcing of climactic state for a specific event. One of the perpetual challenges in ice core based tephrochronological work is measuring the geochemical composition of ultra-fine particles (<10 >μm). Not only is it difficult …10>
