Thermally Stable Fluorogenic Zn(Ii) Sensor Based On A Bis(Benzimidazole)Pyridine-Linked Phenyl-Silsesquioxane Polymer, Chamika U. Lenora, Nai-Hsuan Hu, Joseph C. Furgal

Chemistry Faculty Publications

A 2,6-bis(2-benzimidazolyl) pyridine-linked silsesquioxane-based semi-branched polymer was synthesized, and its photophysical and metal-sensing properties have been investigated. The polymer is thermally stable up to 285 °C and emits blue in both solid and solution state. The emission of the polymer is sensitive to pH and is gradually decreased and quenched upon protonation of the linkers. The initial emission color is recoverable upon deprotonation with triethylamine. The polymer also shows unique spectroscopic properties in both absorption and emission upon long-term UV irradiation, with red-shifted absorption and emission not present in a simple blended system of phenylsilsesquioxane and linker, suggesting that a …

Classifying Imbalanced Financial Fraud Data Utilizing Enhanced Random Forest Algorithm, Charles Gardner

Master of Science in Computer Science Theses

Imbalanced datasets have been a unique challenge for machine learning, requiring specialized approaches to correctly classify the minority class. Financial fraud detection involves using highly imbalanced datasets with a class imbalance of up to .01% frauds to 99.99% regular transactions. It is essential to identify all frauds in financial fraud detection, even if some classifications' precision is low. I developed a random forest assembly that separates fraudulent transactions into tiers of precision. With this approach, 96% of fraudulent transactions are identified, showing an 8% increase in recall when compared to standard approaches. 59% of fraud classifications' precision increases by 10% …

Development Of Multi-Functional Molecular Systems For Applications On Nanomaterial Surfaces, Jun Hyeong Park Dec 2020

Development Of Multi-Functional Molecular Systems For Applications On Nanomaterial Surfaces, Jun Hyeong Park

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The glutathione-mediated, retro Michael-type addition reaction is demonstrated to take place at the interface of water-soluble, maleimide-functionalized gold nanoparticles (Maleimide-AuNP). The retro Michael-type addition can be blocked by hydrolyzing the Michael addition thioether adduct at the nanoparticle’s interface. This procedure “locks” the molecule of interest onto the Maleimide-AuNP template, ensuring no loss of the molecular cargo from the nanocarrier. On the other hand, the glutathione-mediated retro Michael-type addition reaction can be exploited for delivering a molecular payload. The Michael donor, 4-mercaptophenylacetic acid was modified with a terminal azide, allowing for addition of cargo through strain-promoted alkyne azide cycloadditions with various …

Extending Import Detection Algorithms For Concept Import From Two To Three Biomedical Terminologies, Vipina K. Keloth, James Geller, Yan Chen, Julia Xu

Publications and Research

Background: While enrichment of terminologies can be achieved in different ways, filling gaps in the IS-A hierarchy backbone of a terminology appears especially promising. To avoid difficult manual inspection, we started a research program in 2014, investigating terminology densities, where the comparison of terminologies leads to the algorithmic discovery of potentially missing concepts in a target terminology. While candidate concepts have to be approved for import by an expert, the human effort is greatly reduced by algorithmic generation of candidates. In previous studies, a single source terminology was used with one target terminology.

Methods: In this paper, we are extending …
