In this article, we analyze a single server queueing model with feedback, a single vacation under Bernoulli schedule, breakdown and repair. The arriving customers follow the Markovian Arrival Process (MAP) and service follow the phase-type distribution. When the server returns from vacation, if there is no one present in the system, the server will wait until the customer’s arrival. When the service completion epoch if the customer is not satisfied then that customer will get the service immediately. In this paper, a new class of survival distributions based on the model of dependent lives and proportional hazard rate family is introduced. This new family of bivariate survival models contains several bivariate lifetime models and is more flexible. The main purpose of this paper is to generalize this family of bivariate survival distributions of dependent lives so that more flexible models can be achieved. These new families of distributions are called the bivariate proportional hazard rate (BPHR) and the bivariate proportional hazard rate-geometric (BPHRG) families, respectively. In this paper, we study the equivariant nonparametric robust regression estimation relationship between a functional dependent random covariable and a scalar response. We consider a new robust regression estimator when the scale parameter is unknown. The consistency result of the proposed estimator is studied, namely the uniform almost complete convergence (with rate). Thus, suitable topological considerations are needed, implying changes in the convergence rates, which are quantified by entropy considerations. The benefits of considering robust estimators are illustrated on two real data sets where the robust fit reveals the presence of influential outliers.

The kernel distribution function estimator method is the most popular nonparametric method to estimate the cumulative distribution function F(x). In this investigation, we propose a new estimator for F(x) based on a linear combination of kernels. The mean integrated squared error, asymptotic mean integrated squared error and the asymptotically optimal bandwidth for the new estimator are derived. Also, based on the plug-in technique in density estimation, we propose a data based method to select the bandwidth for the new estimator. In addition, we evaluate the new estimator using simulations and real life data.

We generalize the notion of fuzzy topology generated by fuzzy relation given by Mishra and Srivastava to the setting of intuitionistic fuzzy sets. Some fundamental properties and necessary examples are given. More specifically, we provide the lattice structure to a family of intuitionistic fuzzy topologies generated by intuitionistic fuzzy relations. To that end, we study necessary structural characteristics such as distributivity, modularity and complementary of this lattice.

The qualitative study of mathematical models is an important area in applied mathematics. In this paper, a version of the food-limited population model with piecewise constant argument under impulse effect is investigated. Differential equations with piecewise constant arguments are related to difference equations. First, a representation for the solutions of the food-limited population model is stated in terms of the solutions of corresponding difference equation. Then using linearized oscillation theory for difference equations, a sufficient condition for the oscillation of the solutions about positive equilibrium point is obtained. In this article, we present RGB image encryption and decryption using random matrix affine cipher (RMAC) associated with discrete Hartley transform (DHT) and random matrix shift cipher (RMSC). The parameters in RMAC and RMSC phases act as two series of secret keys whose arrangement is imperative in the proposed algorithm. The computer simulations with results and examples are given to analyze the efficiency of the proposed approach. Further, security analysis and comparison with the prior techniques successfully supports the robustness and validation of the proposed technique.

Tsunamis and storms cause considerable coastal flooding, numerous fatalities, destruction of structures, and erosion. The characterization of energy and frequency associated with each wave contribute to the risk assessment in coastal regions. Coastal boulder deposits represent a physical proof of extreme inundation and allow us to study the effects of marine floods further back in time than instrumental and historical records. Age estimation of these deposits is challenging due to lack of materials (such as sand, shells, corals, or organic matter) that retain information about the passage of time. Layered transition metal chalcogenides are promising hosts of electronic Weyl nodes and topological superconductivity. MoTe2 is a striking example that harbors both noncentrosymmetric Td and centrosymmetric T' phases, both of which have been identified as topologically nontrivial. Applied pressure tunes the structural transition separating these phases to zero temperature, stabilizing a mixed Td–T' matrix that entails a network of interfaces between the two nontrivial topological phases. Here, we show that this critical pressure range is characterized by distinct coherent quantum oscillations, indicating that the difference in topology between topologically nonvtrivial Td and T' phases gives …

Financial incentives have been introduced in several countries to improve diabetes management. In Ontario, the most populous province in Canada, a Diabetes Management Incentive (DMI) was introduced to family physicians practicing in patient enrollment models in 2006. This paper examines the impact of the DMI on diabetes-related services provided to individuals with diabetes in Ontario. Longitudinal health administrative data were obtained for adults diagnosed with diabetes and their family physicians. BACKGROUND: Personal narrative plays an important role in the process of recovery from psychotic illnesses. Participatory video is a novel, active intervention that can be used as a tool for fostering narrative development among people with psychosis.
AIM: To assess the feasibility, acceptability and potential clinical utility of participatory video as an innovative tool for promoting recovery in early psychosis.
METHODS: Ten outpatients of an early psychosis intervention programme were recruited to participate in 13 biweekly workshops to plan, film and produce documentary-style videos of their experiences. We report the discovery of a Neptune-like planet (LP 714-47 b, P = 4.05204 d, mb = 30.8 ± 1.5M⊕, Rb = 4.7 ± 0.3 R⊕) located in the “hot Neptune desert”. Confirmation of the TESS Object of Interest (TOI 442.01) was achieved with radial-velocity follow-up using CARMENES, ESPRESSO, HIRES, iSHELL, and PFS, as well as from photometric data using TESS, Spitzer, and ground-based photometry from MuSCAT2, TRAPPIST-South, MONET-South, the George Mason University telescope, the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope network, the El Sauce telescope, the TÜBİTAK National Observatory, the University of Louisville Manner Telescope, and WASP-South. Computed tomography is often used in medical fields today because it creates more detailed information for doctors than regular X-ray images. However, one major side effect is that patients may be exposed to a large dose of radiation because it takes hundreds of X-ray images to compute a CT scan. Another shortcoming is that patients are required to lay down on the CT machine for the scan, which is usually not the ideal position when diagnosing spine related issues such as cervical spondylosis and lumbar disc herniation. This paper proposes a novel machine learning procedure for genome-wide association study (GWAS), named LightGWAS. It is based on the LightGBM framework, in addition to being a single, resilient, autonomous and scalable solution to address common limitations of GWAS implementations found in the literature. These include reliance on massive manual quality control steps and specific GWAS methods for each type of dataset morphology and size. The ultimate goal of Explainable Artificial Intelligence is to build models that possess both high accuracy and degree of explainability. Understanding the inferences of such models can be seen as a process that discloses the relationships between their input and output. This research analyzes the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) Multinational Telemedicine System (MnTS) Project and works to answer five main questions:
1) What challenges did the NATO MnTS Project face that are directly related to the fact that the project included members from different countries and worked to create a system that operates across national borders?
2) How do these challenges compare to those faced by a non-governmental organization (NGO) like the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)?

Electrical magnetoresistance and tunnel diode oscillator measurements were performed under external magnetic fields up to 41 T applied along the crystallographic b axis (hard axis) of UTe2 as a function of temperature and applied pressures up to 18.8 kbar. In this work, we track the field-induced first-order transition between superconducting and magnetic field-polarized phases as a function of applied pressure, showing suppression of the transition with increasing pressure until the demise of superconductivity near 16 kbar and the appearance of a pressure-induced ferromagnetic-like ground state that is distinct from the field-polarized phase and stable at zero field. Motivated by models proposed to explain Standard Model anomalies, and the unprecedented τ+τ- data to be collected by the Belle II experiment during the next years, we study the kinematics of tau pair decays and propose a new method to search for lepton flavor violating processes in tau lepton decays to invisible beyond Standard Model particles, such as τ→ℓα, where ℓ is either an electron or a muon, and α is a massive particle that escapes undetected. The new method improves by one order of magnitude the expected upper limit on the τ→ℓα production in 3×1 prong tau decays and …

In this paper, subtidal responses of Barataria Bay to an atmospheric cold front in 2014 and Hurricane Barry of 2019 are studied. The cold fronts had shorter influencing periods (1 to 3 days), while Hurricane Barry had a much longer influencing period (about 1 week). Wind direction usually changes from southern quadrants to northern quadrants before and after a cold front’s passage. For a hurricane making its landfall at the norther Gulf of Mexico coast, wind variation is dependent on the location relative to the location of landfall. Gas separations are in great demand for carbon emission reduction, natural gas purification, oxygen isolation, and much more. Many of these separations rely on cost-prohibitive methods such as cryogenic distillation or strong-binding solvents. As a result, novel materials are being developed to subvert the energetic expense of gas separation processes. These studies focus on improving the performance of alternative materials, including (but not limited to) metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, dense polymeric membranes, porous polymers, and ionic liquids.

Understanding how small-molecules, such as drugs, interact with bacterial membranes can quickly unravel into much more perplexing questions. No two bacterial species are alike, especially when comparing their membrane compositions which can even be altered by incorporating fatty acids from their surrounding environment into their lipid-membrane composition. To further complicate the comparison, discrete alterations in small-molecule structures can result in vastly different membrane-interaction outcomes, giving rise to the need for more "label-free" studies when analyzing drug mechanisms. The work presented in this dissertation highlights the benefits to using nonlinear spectroscopy and microscopy techniques for probing small-molecule interactions in living bacteria. …

This research contributes to developing an Intelligent Therapeutic Robot (iTbot) designed to provide therapy to patients with upper limb impairment due to stroke, injury, and other trauma. This robot aims to implement robotic rehabilitation based on principles of motor rehabilitation and Neuroplasticity. The iTbot, as developed in this research, can provide end-effector type rehabilitation exercises in various configurations, including motion in the vertical and horizontal plane. It can provide passive, active, and active-assisted rehabilitation therapies to patients with limited upper limb mobility.

Evidence of a role of frontier orbital symmetry, in the adsorption process of diiodobenzene on MoS2(0001), appears in the huge differences in the rate of adsorption between 1,3-diiodobenzene, 1,2-diiodobenzene and 1,4-diiodobenzene isomers on MoS2. Experiments indicate that the rate of adsorption of 1,3-diiodobenzene on MoS2(0001) is much greater than that of the 1,2-diodobenzene and 1,4-diiodbenzene isomers. As the differences in calculated diiodobenzene isomer-MoS2 system adsorption energies and electron affinities are negligible, frontier orbital symmetry appears to play a significant role in diiodobenzene adsorption on MoS2(0001). X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs) open the possibility of obtaining diffraction information from a single biological macromolecule. This is because XFELs can generate extremely intense X-ray pulses which are so short that diffraction data can be collected before the sample is destroyed. By collecting a sufficient number of single-particle diffraction patterns from many tilts of a molecule relative to the X-ray beam, the three-dimensional electron density can be reconstructed ab-initio. The resolution and therefore the information content of the data will ultimately depend largely on the number of patterns collected at the experiment.
