Extensions Of The Matrix-Valued$\ Q-$Sturm-Liouville Operators, Bi̇lender Paşaoğlu, Hüseyi̇n Tuna

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we investigate the matrix-valued$\ q-$Sturm--Liouville problems. We establish an existence and uniqueness result. Later, we introduce the corresponding maximal and minimal operators for this system. Moreover, we give a criterion under which these operators are self-adjoint. Finally, we characterize extensions (maximal dissipative, maximal accumulative, and self-adjoint) of the minimal symmetric operator.

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

} Let $\mathscr{A}$ be a Banach algebra over $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$. In this paper, we describe the behavior of recently defined $b$-generalized skew derivations which satisfy certain differential identities on some specific subsets of $\mathscr{A}$.

Relationship Between Lattice Ordered Semigroups And Ordered Hypersemigroups, Niovi Kehayopulu Jan 2021

Relationship Between Lattice Ordered Semigroups And Ordered Hypersemigroups, Niovi Kehayopulu

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

It has been shown in Turk J Math 2019; 43 (5): 2592-2601 that many results on hypersemigroups can be obtained directly as corollaries of more general results from the theory of lattice ordered semigroups, $\vee e$-semigroups or $poe$-semigroups. The present note shows that although this is not exactly the case for ordered hypersemigroups, even in this case various results may be suggested from analogous results for $le$, $\vee e$ or $poe$-semigroups and direct proofs derive along the lines of those $le$, $\vee e$ or $poe$-semigroups setting as well; the sets in the investigation provides a further indication that the results …

Domination Parameters On Cayley Digraphs Of Transformation Semigroups With Fixed Sets, Nuttawoot Nupo, Chollawat Pookpienlert

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

For a nonempty subset $Y$ of a nonempty set $X$, denote by $Fix(X,Y)$ the semigroup of full transformations on the set $X$ in which all elements in $Y$ are fixed. The Cayley digraph $Cay$ $(Fix(X,Y),A)$ of $Fix(X,Y)$ with respect to a connection set $A\subseteq Fix(X,Y)$ is defined as a digraph whose vertex set is $Fix(X,Y)$ and two vertices $\alpha, \beta$ are adjacent in sense of drawing a directed edge (arc) from $\alpha$ to $\beta$ if there exists $\mu\in A$ such that $\beta = \alpha\mu$. In this paper, we determine domination parameters of $Cay$ $(Fix(X,Y),A)$ where $A$ is a subset of …

On Some Nonlocal Inverse Boundary Problem For Partial Differential Equations Of Third Order, Ziyatkhan S. Aliyev, Yashar T. Mehraliyev, Elmira H. Yusifova

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we consider the inverse boundary value problem for a partial differential equation of third order with nonlocal boundary conditions, including an integral condition. Using analytical and operator-theoretic methods, as well as the Fourier method, the existence and uniqueness of the classical solution of this problem is proved.

On Characterization Of Tripotent Matrices In Triangular Matrix Rings, Tuğba Peti̇k Jan 2021

On Characterization Of Tripotent Matrices In Triangular Matrix Rings, Tuğba Peti̇k

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let $\mathfrak{R}$ be a ring with identity $1$ whose tripotents are only $-1$, $0$, and $1$. It is characterized the structure of tripotents in $\mathcal{T}(\mathfrak{R})$ which is the ring of triangular matrices over $\mathfrak{R}$. In addition, when $\mathfrak{R}$ is finite, it is given number of the tripotents in $\mathcal{T}_{n}( \mathfrak{R})$ which is the ring of $n\times n$ dimensional triangular matrices over $\mathfrak{R}$ with $n$ being a positive integer.

On The Geometry Of Tangent Bundle Of A Hypersurface In $%%Tcimacro{\U{211d} }%%Beginexpansion\Mathbb{R}%Endexpansion^{N+1}$, Semra Yurttançikmaz

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, tangent bundle $TM$ of the hypersurface $M$ in $% %TCIMACRO{\U{211d} }% %BeginExpansion \mathbb{R} %EndExpansion ^{n+1}$ has been studied. For hypersurface $M$ given by immersion $f:M\rightarrow %TCIMACRO{\U{211d} }% %BeginExpansion \mathbb{R} %EndExpansion ^{n+1},$ considering the fact that $F=df:TM\rightarrow %TCIMACRO{\U{211d} }% %BeginExpansion \mathbb{R} %EndExpansion ^{2n+2}$ is also immersion, $TM$ is treated as a submanifold of $% %TCIMACRO{\U{211d} }% %BeginExpansion \mathbb{R} %EndExpansion ^{2n+2}.$ Firstly, an induced metric which is called rescaled induced metric has been defined on $TM,$ and the Levi-Civita connection has been calculated for this metric. Next, curvature tensors of tangent bundle $TM$ have been obtained. Finally, the orthonormal …

On The Paper ``A Study On (Strong) Order-Congruences In Ordered Semihypergroups", Niovi Kehayopulu

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Throughout the paper in the title by Jian Tang, Yanfeng Luo and Xiangyun Xie in Turk J Math 42 (2018) the following lemma has been used. Lemma: Let $(S,*)$ be a semihypergroup and $\rho$ an equivalence relation on S. Then $(i)$ If $\rho$ is a congruence, then $(S/\rho,\otimes)$ is a semihypergroup with respect to the hyperoperation $(a)_\rho\otimes (b)_\rho=\bigcup\limits_{c\in a*b} {(c)_\rho}$. $(ii)$ If $\rho$ is a strong congruence, then $(S/\rho,\otimes)$ is a semigroup with respect to the operation $(a)_\rho\otimes (b)_\rho=(c)_\rho$ for all $c\in a*b$.} The property (i) of the paper is certainly wrong as $\bigcup\limits_{c\in a*b} {(c)_\rho}$ is a subset of …

Axes In Non-Associative Algebras, Louis Rowen, Yoav Segev Jan 2021

Axes In Non-Associative Algebras, Louis Rowen, Yoav Segev

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Fusion rules are laws of multiplication among eigenspaces of an idempotent. This terminology is relatively new and is closely related to axial algebras, introduced recently by Hall, Rehren and Shpectorov. Axial algebras, in turn, are closely related to $3$-transposition groups and Vertex operator algebras. In this paper we consider fusion rules for semisimple idempotents, following Albert in the power-associative case. We examine the notion of an axis in the non-commutative setting and show that the dimension $d$ of any algebra $A$ generated by a pair $a,b$ of (not necessarily Jordan) axes of respective types $(λ,δ)$ and $(λ',δ')$ must be at …

A Semi-Symmetric Metric Connection On Almost Contact B-Metric Manifolds, Şenay Bulut Jan 2021

A Semi-Symmetric Metric Connection On Almost Contact B-Metric Manifolds, Şenay Bulut

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The object of the present paper is to study a semisymmetric metric connection on an almost contact $B-$metric manifold. We deduce a relation between the Levi-Civita connection and the semisymmetric metric connection on the considered manifold. We determined the class of the torsion tensor corresponding to the semisymmetric connection. We study Ricci-like solitons on almost contact $B-$metric manifolds with the semisymmetric connection. Finally, we give some examples to considered manifolds with the semisymmetric connection.

Hermitian-Toeplitz Determinants For Functions With Bounded Turning, Virendra Kumar, Nak Eun Cho Jan 2021

Hermitian-Toeplitz Determinants For Functions With Bounded Turning, Virendra Kumar, Nak Eun Cho

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

There is a rich literature on estimation of second and third Hankel determinants for normalised analytic functions in geometric function theory. It is also, therefore, natural to explore the concept of the Hermitian-Toeplitz determinants for such functions. In this paper, the sharp lower and upper estimations for third-order Hermitian-Toeplitz determinant for functions with bounded turning of order $\alpha$, are obtained. \keywords{Analytic functions, functions with bounded turning of order $\alpha$, Hermitian-Toeplitz determinant

Trace Metal Contamination In Urban Soils: A Field To Laboratory Methodological Framework For Characterization And Education, Sandra Leighanne Walser

Graduate College Dissertations and Theses

Urban soils around the world have been found to possess elevated concentrations of toxic trace metals such as As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Mn, Hg, Zn known to pose human health risks. Tightening environmental legislation and further elucidation of the detrimental health impacts from trace metals has necessitated more efficient means of contamination assessment, as well as greater public awareness. Within this thesis, I sought to develop an array of tools to holistically approach the socially relevant environmental challenges derived from heavy metal soil contamination. These tools consist in providing means to simplify Pb, Zn and Cu analysis in-situ, develop strategies …

Mass Spectral And Chemometric Analysis For The Detection And Identification Of Forensically Relevant Materials, Meghan Grace Appley

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Forensic science is the application of science to the law which in and of itself covers a substantial number of disciplines. Many of these involve the detection and identification of materials using analytical techniques. Traditional analysis methods include microscopy, spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The materials encountered by forensic practitioners are ever evolving, resulting in the need to develop new methods to complement conventional techniques to enhance the evidentiary value of the samples. The research presented here shows that novel methods including direct analysis in real time–high-resolution mass spectrometry (DART-HRMS), thermal desorption coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS), solid-phase microextraction (SPME) …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Highly Contorted Aromatics And Semiconducting Thioacenes, Adam M. Dyer Jan 2021

Synthesis And Characterization Of Highly Contorted Aromatics And Semiconducting Thioacenes, Adam M. Dyer

Graduate College Dissertations and Theses

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have shown great promise to produce new organic electronic materials. The networks of delocalized π-electrons present in these conjugated molecules allow for the mobilization of charge carriers. Compared to traditional electronic devices, this new class represents a more sustainable, lower cost, and solution processable alternative. Instability and poor intermolecular interactions are two key challenges preventing widespread adoption of said organic devices. However, the synthetic nature of organic molecules allows for fine tuning of electronic properties, offering a solution to these issues. Introduction of contorted conformations and heteroaromatic rings to PAH systems are discussed within this document …

Engraved Digit Detection Using Hog-Real Adaboost And Deep Neural Network, Tuan Linh Dang, Thang Cao, Yukinobu Hoshino Jan 2021

Engraved Digit Detection Using Hog-Real Adaboost And Deep Neural Network, Tuan Linh Dang, Thang Cao, Yukinobu Hoshino

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper proposes a framework for recognizing sequences of digits engraved on steel plates. These digits are normally blurred, dirty, not clear, tilted, and sometimes overlapped by other digits. Several digits in a string with uneven spacing and different sizes are detected at the same time. The framework consists of two main components called histogram of oriented gradient-real AdaBoost module and deep neural network module. The first component is used to detect digit windows, and the second component is employed to recognize digits inside the detected windows. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed framework could be a potential solution to …

Synthesis And Conformational Study Of Triazolylcyclohexanols And Trans-2-(Azaarylsulfanyl)-Cyclohexanols, Mulinde R. Ruyonga Jan 2021

Synthesis And Conformational Study Of Triazolylcyclohexanols And Trans-2-(Azaarylsulfanyl)-Cyclohexanols, Mulinde R. Ruyonga

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Amino-cyclohexanol derivatives have been successful models for pH-triggered conformational switches. By changing the groups on the amine nitrogen, these models provide a wide pH-range in which a switch can occur. The pH-induced switch of conformation can be monitored by 1H NMR.In this work, structurally similar trans-2-(azaarylsulfanyl)-cyclohexanol derivatives (Scheme 1) and trans-2-triazolylcyclohexanol derivatives (Scheme 2) have been explored for the first time as compounds with a potential for the analogous pH-induced conformational switch. The azaarylsulfanyl groups showed selective conformational flexibility while the triazolyl group showed a strong preference for the equatorial position. Further, conformational studies were done on a series of …

Application Of Oxygen Scavenger In Gel Electromembrane Extraction For Determination Of Nitrite And Nitrate, Thidarat Samkumpim Jan 2021

Application Of Oxygen Scavenger In Gel Electromembrane Extraction For Determination Of Nitrite And Nitrate, Thidarat Samkumpim

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Gel electromembrane microextraction (G-EME) have been proven as a promising extraction method due to its effectiveness for extraction and preconcentration of charged analytes and its compliance with the principle of green chemistry. G-EME consists of two phases (donor and acceptor phases), separated by a gel membrane made of agarose. The driving force is the electrical potential applied across the membrane. Despite of all the advantages, the common problem was the oxygen generated in the acceptor solution due to the electrolysis of water that could affect the analysis of easily oxidized analyte species such as nitrite/nitrate species. In this work, application …

On The Growth Of Maximum Modulus Of Rational Functions With Prescribed Poles, Lubna Wali Shah

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper we prove a sharp growth estimate for rational functions with prescribed poles and restricted zeros in the Chebyshev norm on the unit disk in the complex domain. In particular we extend a polynomial inequality due to Dubinin (2007) to rational functions which also improves a result of Govil and Mohapatra (1998).

Quasi-Idempotent Ranks Of The Proper Ideals In Finite Symmetric Inverse Semigroups, Leyla Bugay Jan 2021

Quasi-Idempotent Ranks Of The Proper Ideals In Finite Symmetric Inverse Semigroups, Leyla Bugay

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let $I_{n}$ and $S_{n}$ be the symmetric inverse semigroup and the symmetric group on a finite chain $X_{n}=\{1,\ldots ,n \}$, respectively. Also, let $I_{n,r}= \{ \alpha \in I_{n}: im(\alpha) \leq r\}$ for $1\leq r\leq n-1$. For any $\alpha\in I_n$, if $\alpha\neq \alpha^2=\alpha^4$ then $\alpha$ is called a quasi-idempotent. In this paper, we show that the quasi-idempotent rank of $I_{n,r}$ (both as a semigroup and as an inverse semigroup) is $\binom{n}{2}$ if $r=2$, and $\binom{n}{r}+1$ if $r\geq 3$. The quasi-idempotent rank of $I_{n,1}$ is $n$ (as a semigroup) and $n-1$ (as an inverse semigroup).

Portfolio Optimization With Two Quasiconvex Risk Measures, Çağin Ararat Jan 2021

Portfolio Optimization With Two Quasiconvex Risk Measures, Çağin Ararat

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We study a static portfolio optimization problem with two risk measures: a principle risk measure in the objective function and a secondary risk measure whose value is controlled in the constraints. This problem is of interest when it is necessary to consider the risk preferences of two parties, such as a portfolio manager and a regulator, at the same time. A special case of this problem where the risk measures are assumed to be coherent (positively homogeneous) is studied recently in a joint work of the author. The present paper extends the analysis to a more general setting by assuming …
