Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment For State Wildlife Areas Surrounding Humboldt Bay, Northern California, Robert M. Sullivan, Aldaron Laird, Brian Powell, Jeffrey K. Anderson
Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment For State Wildlife Areas Surrounding Humboldt Bay, Northern California, Robert M. Sullivan, Aldaron Laird, Brian Powell, Jeffrey K. Anderson
Local Reports and Publications
Humboldt Bay has the highest rate of sea level rise (SLR) in California (47.2 cm/century). Due to compaction and tectonic subsidence, former tidelands and pastures behind dikes surrounding Humboldt Bay are lower in elevation than bay waters at high tide. Adaptation to future climate change and SLR requires that resource managers understand vulnerability and risk to each wildlife area at a local level, because adaptation to SLR is a risk-based management strategy against an uncertain future requiring site-specific solutions. We conducted a vulnerability assessment of the shoreline of three State wildlife areas surrounding Humboldt Bay: Elk River (ERWA), Fay Slough …
A New Model For The Segmentation, Propagation And Linkage Of The Tan-Lu Fault Zone, East Asia, Chengming Li, Changhou Zhang, Tim D. Cope
A New Model For The Segmentation, Propagation And Linkage Of The Tan-Lu Fault Zone, East Asia, Chengming Li, Changhou Zhang, Tim D. Cope
Geology and Environmental Geoscience Faculty Publications
The Tan-Lu fault zone (TLF) is a major strike-slip fault with a long and complex history in East Asia, whose evolution provides a new perspective on the formation of large-scale faults (>1000 km long). Fault displacement analysis, geological mapping and U-Pb LA-ICP-MS dating have been performed to understand the evolution of the TLF. Along-strike displacement variation reveals that the TLF consists of two kinematically independent segments, the northern and southern TLF, with opposite long-term propagation directions. Structural and geochronological studies in the eastern Yanshan belt, located around the linkage area of the southern and northern TLF, indicate that NNE-trending …
Mathematics In The Woods: Exploring Low-Income Parents’ Perceptions Of And Involvement In Their Children’S Mathematical Learning, Lulu Sun
Northwest Journal of Teacher Education
This article features data from a three-day mathematics camping trip that offered parents and their children time and space to enjoy non-digital activities and mathematics-building tasks. Drawing upon data from a larger qualitative study of children and their parents, this article specifically focuses on 10 parents’ perceptions of their children’s mathematics learning, problem-solving, and wellbeing. Findings suggest that, although parents are interested in their children’s mathematics learning, they are most concerned with their children’s development of problem-solving abilities and social skills. Moreover, students’ own learning experience is important for their mathematics learning.

The operational approach to time is a cornerstone of relativistic theories, as evidenced by the notion of proper time. In standard quantum mechanics, however, time is an external parameter. Recently, many attempts have been made to extend the notion of proper time to quantum mechanics within a relational framework. Here, we use similar ideas combined with the relativistic mass-energy equivalence to study an accelerating massive quantum particle with an internal clock system. We show that the ensuing evolution from the perspective of the particle’s internal clock is non-Hermitian. This result does not rely on specific implementations of the clock. As …
