We analyze the eigenvectors of the generalized Laplacian for two metric graphs occurring in practical applications. In accordance with random network theory, localization of an eigenvector is rare and the network should be tuned to observe exactly localized eigenvectors. We derive the resonance conditions to obtain localized eigenvectors for various geometric configurations and their combinations to form more complicated resonant structures. These localized eigenvectors suggest new indicators based on the energy density; in contrast to standard criteria, ours provide the number of active edges. 1) Background: Phase change materials (PCMs) have been used statically, which has caused the use of these materials to face challenges. Encapsulating PCMs and combining them with the base fluid can significantly solve the problem of using PCMs in BTM systems. Gaussian Radial Basis Function Kernels are the most-often-employed kernel function in artificial intelligence for providing the optimal results in contrast to their respective counterparts. However, our understanding surrounding the utilization of the Generalized Gaussian Radial Basis Function across different machine learning algorithms, such as kernel regression, support vector machines, and pattern recognition via neural networks is incomplete. [This paper is part of the Focused Collection on Instructional labs: Improving traditions and new directions.] This manuscript presents a case study of an introductory physics student who, during the remote learning conditions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, found inspiration within a new, openinquiry, project-based, laboratory curriculum designed at Portland State University. This paper shows that certain 3F4 hypergeometric functions can be expanded in sums of pair products of 2F3 functions, which reduce in special cases to 2F3 functions expanded in sums of pair products of 1F2 functions. This expands the class of hypergeometric functions having summation theorems beyond those expressible as pair-products of generalized Whittaker functions, 2F1 functions, and 3F2 functions into the realm of pFq functions where p < q for both the summand and terms in the series. In addition to its intrinsic value, this result has a specific application in calculating the response of the atoms to laser stimulation in the Strong Field Approximation.

As the need for Green Workforce jobs rises, it is essential that companies are transparent about pay. The California Pay Transparency Law (SB 1162) enforces job descriptions that explicitly outline employee compensation, which is also a step towards closing gender and race-based pay gaps. It also prohibits employers from using hiring practices that may be discriminatory against certain groups of people. SB 1162 builds honesty, trust, and equity in the workplace for job seekers today and for generations to come.

Streams systems draining upland landscapes provide valuable ecosystem services, but they are vulnerable to incision and channelization caused by anthropogenic disturbance. Restoring a degraded stream to its pre-disturbance condition by reconnecting the channel to its historical floodplain aims to recover lost hydro-morphological processes and functions. Seeking evidence to indicate whether that aim is met in practice, we examined diatoms and the stream macroinvertebrate trophic structures in three reaches of Whychus Creek, Oregon, United States. About 3 billion new tires are produced each year and about 800 million tires become waste annually. Global dependence upon tires produced from natural rubber and petroleum-based compounds represents a persistent and complex environmental problem with only partial and often-times, ineffective solutions. Tire emissions may be in the form of whole tires, tire particles, and chemical compounds, each of which is transported through various atmospheric, terrestrial, and aquatic routes in the natural and built environments. This study investigates the barriers to challenging others who post misinformation on social media platforms. We conducted a survey amongst U.K. Facebook users (143 (57.2 %) women, 104 (41.6 %) men) to assess the extent to which the barriers to correcting others, as identified in literature across disciplines, apply to correcting misinformation on social media. We also group the barriers into factors and explore demographic differences amongst them. It has been suggested that users are generally hesitant to challenge misinformation. Recent experiments with fish has shown an unexpected strange behavior: when two fish of the same species are placed in an aquarium, they start following each other, while when three fish are placed there, they form (approximately) an equilateral triangle, and move in the direction (approximately) orthogonal to this triangle. In this paper, we use natural symmetries -- such as rotations, shifts, and permutation of fish -- to show that this observed behavior is actually optimal. Researchers at the Maine Rural Health Research Center describe a methodology for identifying Rural Health Clinic encounters within the Medicaid claims data using Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS) Analytic Files.

Background: There is limited information on the extent to which Rural Health Clinics (RHC) provide pediatric and pregnancy-related services to individuals enrolled in state Medicaid/CHIP programs. In part this is because methods to identify RHC encounters within Medicaid claims data are outdated.

Imagery from fixed, ground-based cameras is rich in qualitative and quantitative information that can improve stream discharge monitoring. For instance, time-lapse imagery may be valuable for filling data gaps when sensors fail and/or during lapses in funding for monitoring programs. In this study, we used a large image archive (>40,000 images from 2012 to 2019) from a fixed, ground-based camera that is part of a documentary watershed imaging project (https://plattebasintimelapse.com/). The task of math word problem (MWP) generation, which generates an MWP given an equation and relevant topic words, has increasingly attracted researchers’ attention. In this work, we introduce a simple memory retrieval module to search related training MWPs, which are used to augment the generation. This report defines the procedures used in 2022 by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) to complete rangeland condition assessment (RCA) in the Kimberley region which has grass-based pastures. For the rest of the pastoral estate, DPIRD uses the Procedures for RCA in the Pilbara and southern rangelands which have predominantly shrub pastures.

Accurately predicting lake water temperature (LWT) and dissolved oxygen (DO) is crucial for determining threshold values of fish survivability under warmer global conditions, with recreational fishing in reservoirs significantly contributing to regional economies, such as $779 million and $1,891 million annually to the economies of Oklahoma and Texas, respectively. Long-term irrigation management research has been conducted from 2014 to 2023 for corn and soybean at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Center (ENREEC) Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI) Field located in subhumid east-central Nebraska (in the Lower Platte North Natural Resources District).
