Butterworth Filter To Reduce Reactivity Fluctuations, Daniel Suescún-Díaz, Geraldyne Ule-Duque, Luis E. Cardoso-Páez

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

In this study, we introduce the calculation of reactivity in nuclear reactors. The proposed method uses the Euler-Maclaurin series to approximate the integral in the inverse equation of point kinetics. The approximation is done with the first three terms, the first term represents the approximation of a zero-order sum, the second term the trapezoidal rule and the third term the first Bernoulli number. These three terms improve the approximation, along with an estimate of the neutron density using the prompt jump approximation. To reduce neutron density fluctuations, a second-order Butterworth filter for the reactivity calculation was implemented, which offers the …

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

In this paper, we study two extensions of the complex-valued Gaussian radial basis function (RBF) kernel and discuss their connections with Fock spaces in two different settings. First, we introduce the quaternionic Gaussian RBF kernel constructed using the theory of slice hyperholomorphic functions. Then, we consider the case of Gaussian RBF kernels in several complex variables.

Purification And Isolation Of Α-Chloro-Β-Lactone Precursor Molecules, Matthew Ellis Feb 2024

Purification And Isolation Of Α-Chloro-Β-Lactone Precursor Molecules, Matthew Ellis

ASPIRE 2024

This research investigates the synthesis of α-chloro-β-lactone molecules, focusing on the production, isolation, and purification of two precursor compounds from chloroacetic acid and substituted benzaldehydes. While multiple methods were explored, including EDC, DIC, and DCC catalysis, DCC proved to be most effective in producing higher yields. However, challenges in purification arose due to the formation of byproducts, particularly with DCC, prompting further investigation for efficient extraction and purification techniques. DCC, however, shows a promising route for α-chloro-β-lactone synthesis, despite purification complexities.

Euler’S Prime-Producing Polynomial Revisited, Robert Heffernan, Nick Lord, Des Machale Feb 2024

Euler’S Prime-Producing Polynomial Revisited, Robert Heffernan, Nick Lord, Des Machale

Department of Mathematics Publications

Euler’s polynomial f (n) = n2 + n + 41 is famous for producing 40 different prime numbers when the consecutive values 0, 1, …, 39 are substituted: see Table 1. Some authors, including Euler, prefer the polynomial f (n − 1) = n2 − n + 41 with prime values for n = 1, …, 40. Since f (−n) = f (n − 1), f (n) actually takes prime values (with each value repeated once) for n = −40, −39, …, 39; equivalently the polynomial f (n − 40) = n2 − 79n + 1601 takes (repeated) prime values …

Short-Term Bus Passenger Flow Prediction Based On Convolutional Long-Short-Term Memory Network, Jing Chen, Zhaochong Zhang, Linkai Wang, Mai An, Wei Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To address the problem that the traditional short-time passenger flow prediction method does not consider the temporal characteristics similarity between the inter-temporal passenger flows, a shorttime passenger flow prediction model k-CNN-LSTM is proposed by combining the improved k-means clustering algorithm with the CNN and the LSTM. The k-means is used to cluster the intertemporal timeseries data, the k-value is determined by using the gap-statistic, and a traffic flow matrix model is constructed. A CNN-LSTM network is used to process the short-time passenger flows with spatial and temporal characteristics. The model is tested and parameter tuned by the real dataset. …

Dynamic Spatio-Temporal Anomaly-Aware Correlation Filtering Object Tracking Algorithm, Yunfei Qiu, Xiangrui Bu, Boqiang Zhang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: In view of the fact that the background perception algorithm does not establish a relationship with the spatio-temporal domain characteristics of the target, and cannot accurately deal with the occlusion, deformation and other abnormal tracking, a object tracking algorithm which can adaptively perceive the spatio-temporal anomalies is proposed. In the training stage of correlation filter, the adaptive spatial regularization term is introduced to establish a relationship with the spatio-temporal characteristics of sample. The abnormal perception method is proposed according to the peak value of response map. Taking advantage of the different confidence of historical filter and the continuity of …

Gauss Circle Problem Over Smooth Integers, Ankush Goswami

School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications and Presentations

For a positive integer 𝑛, let 𝑟2(𝑛) be the number of representations of 𝑛 as sums of two squares (of integers), where the convention is that different signs and different orders of the summands yield distinct representations. A famous result of Gauss shows that 𝑅(𝑥) ∶= ∑ 𝑛≤𝑥 𝑟2(𝑛) ∼ 𝜋𝑥. Let 𝑃(𝑛) denote the largest prime factor of 𝑛 and let 𝑆(𝑥, 𝑦) ∶= {𝑛 ≤ 𝑥 ∶ 𝑃(𝑛) ≤ 𝑦}. In this paper, we study the asymptotic behavior of 𝑅(𝑥, 𝑦) ∶= ∑ 𝑛∈𝑆(𝑥,𝑦) 𝑟2(𝑛) for various ranges of 2 ≤ 𝑦 ≤ 𝑥. For 𝑦 in a …

The decay or annihilation of dark matter particles may produce a steady flux of very-high-energy gamma rays detectable above the diffuse background. Nearby clusters of galaxies provide excellent targets to search for the signatures of particle dark matter interactions. In particular, the Virgo cluster spans several degrees across the sky and can be efficiently probed with a wide field-of-view instrument. The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory, due to its wide field of view and sensitivity to gamma rays at an energy scale of 300 GeV-100 TeV is well-suited for this search. Using 2141 days of data, we search for …

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Broad learning system(BLS) is introduced to tackle the existed disadvantage that LSTM-based runoff prediction model is easy to fall into local optimization. To reduce the influence of noise on the prediction results, the variational mode decomposition (VMD) is adopted to transform the onedimensional time-domain runoff signal to the two-dimensional time-frequency plane. The runoff prediction model based on VMD-LSTM-BLS is proposed. The simulation results demonstrate that the prediction accuracy of the new model is more significantly improved compared with the baseline model and the existing LSTM-based runoff prediction model.
