In this paper we review the IEEE/ACM CC2001 model. We then describe our proposed core CS curriculum comprising four strands: programming languages, algorithms, discrete mathematics and systems. These sequences are to be taught over the first two years of the Bachelor of Computer Science Degree and need to be taken in parallel.

A Change Evaluation was conducted in the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics, at the University of Wollongong (UOW) with a view to identifying which resources to improve in order to facilitate better student learning outcomes. One hundred and thirty students took the subject MATH151 during the autumn term of the 2010 academic year with 101 students responding to the evaluation questionnaire. Data collection was used to discover which resources had the greatest potential for improvement or replacement and to examine if the structure of the subject could be improved for better student understanding and learning. In this paper we examine the barriers to using ICT of secondary mathematics teachers in the classroom. The sample contained 114 mathematics teachers from public secondary schools in New South Wales (Australia). The instrument used in this study was a survey questionnaire mailed to secondary schools in the New South Wales Department of Education and Training. The questionnaire design is a closed-response with five open-ended questions. Results of the study showed that lack of access to computer labs is the number one barrier to using ICT in the classroom. But when a second analysis using a logistic regression analysis modeling …

In the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper of 23rd March 2005 the economics writer Ross Gittins argued that the funding arrangements for private schools in Australia positively encourage parents to move their children from the state system to the private system. The Federal minister, Dr Brendan Nelson, responded by saying that the policy of subsidising pupils who go to a private school results in taxpayer savings of $4 billion. A scene to be photographed, usually includes objects at varying distances from the camera. Depth-of-field of a digital camera is the range of distance, all objects within which appear to be sharp in the image. Due to the low depth-of-field of the camera, images acquired by them often suffer from degradation called out-of-foc us blur. One way to enhance the effective depth-of-field is to acquire se veral images of a scene with focus on different parts of it and then combine these images into a single image in such a way that all regions of the scene are in focus. …

Operator Monotone Functions And Löwner Functions Of Several Variables, Jim Agler, John E. Mccarthy, N J. Young

We prove generalizations of Loewner's results on matrix monotone functions to several variables. We give a characterization of when a function of d variables is locally monotone on d-tuples of commuting self-adjoint n-by-n matrices. We prove a generalization to several variables of Nevanlinna's theorem describing analytic functions that map the upper half-plane to itself and satisfy a growth condition. We use this to characterize all rational functions of two variables that are operator monotone.

A set of vertices S in a graph G is a global dominating set (GDS) of G if S is a dominating set for both G and its complement G. The minimum cardinality of a global dominating set of G is the global domination number of G. We explore the effects of graph modifications on the global domination number. In particular, we explore edge removal, edge addition, and vertex removal.

The Calculus of Variations is a highly applicable and advancing field. My thesis has only scraped the top of the applications and theoretical work that is possible within this branch of mathematics. To summarize, we began by exploring a general problem common to this field, finding the geodesic be-tween two given points. We then went on to define and explore terms and concepts needed to further delve into the subject matter.
