Variations Of Two Culture Traits In The Plains Area, Harold Lindsay Amoss Jan 1947

Variations Of Two Culture Traits In The Plains Area, Harold Lindsay Amoss

Anthropology ETDs

There are two problems Involved In the study of processes of culture change: one, what are the determinants of change, and do they apply universally; two, the utilization of these laws In determining culture history. No attempt will be made in this paper to reconstruct a history of the cultural items, not because there is no historical interest, but because the problem is pointed towards the analysis of some culture processes. The concern here is limited to the study of forms, not functions though the latter may have some significant bearing on these problems. The ultimate aim of anthropology is …

A Study In The Classification, Distribution, And Sequence Of The Archaeological Cultures Of Missouri, Carl Haley Chapman Jun 1946

A Study In The Classification, Distribution, And Sequence Of The Archaeological Cultures Of Missouri, Carl Haley Chapman

Anthropology ETDs

The orderly arrangement of the archeological cultures of Missouri, showing areal and temporal relationships, appears to be one of the major problems in that state at the present time. It is proposed to undertake a classification of the known archeological cultures by means of the McKern Taxonomic System, to point out the known distribution of each culture within the state, and to undertake a tentative sequence of the classified cultures by means of evidence found in Missouri and in surrounding areas.
