The Distribution, When The Residuals Are Small, Of Statistics Testing Overidentifying Restrictions, Joseph B. Kadane
The Distribution, When The Residuals Are Small, Of Statistics Testing Overidentifying Restrictions, Joseph B. Kadane
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
In the estimation of simultaneous equation econometric models, overidentifying restrictions improve estimates of the remaining parameters. Natural test statistics for the hypothesis that an equation is overidentified have been developed by Anderson and Rubin and by Basmann. If the residuals are jointly normal, serially uncorrelated, and small, both the above overidentification test statistics have the Snedecor F distribution asymptotically as the variance of the residuals get small. This gives analytic confirmation of Monte Carlo results of Basmann. The results given apply to linear models in which predetermined variables can be exogenous or lagged endogenous.

Louisville: Intergovernmental Reforms For Fiscal Progress, Roy W. Bahl
Louisville: Intergovernmental Reforms For Fiscal Progress, Roy W. Bahl
ECON Publications
Louisville finds it difficult to finance its public services because of severe state restrictions imposed on its revenue-raising power - and because its citizens rebel at having their taxes raised. This has adversely affected the city's school system (although reforms have recently been initiated). This study documents the difficulties in overcoming local government fragmentation and in planning for areawide public services. Normal difficulties in these fields are compounded in the Louisville metropolitan area because it straddles two states. But interstate cooperation - and the cooperation and consolidation of local governments - have speeded progress in planning and providing for areawide …
Assessing Achievement On A First-Grade Economics Course Of Study, A. Guy Larkins
Assessing Achievement On A First-Grade Economics Course Of Study, A. Guy Larkins
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Problem
Despite the surge of interest in economic education in the elementary school in the last two decades, there have been very few attempts to assess the ability of young children to learn economic concepts. In the primary grades, this problem is compounded by the difficulty of measuring knowledge in six and seven year old children.
Objectives
The primary objective of this dissertation was to determine whether first-grade children can learn the basic concepts in Our Working World: Families at Work. Since instruments suitable for assessing achievement on Families at Work were not available when this study was initiated, …
Three Decades Of The National Labor Relations Board In The State Of Utah, Rulon Sheldon Ellett
Three Decades Of The National Labor Relations Board In The State Of Utah, Rulon Sheldon Ellett
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study presents an index and qualitative analysis of the operations of the National Labor Relations Board in the State of Utah. The period of time under consideration is 1935 to 1965. The major source of information is the first 153 volumes of the Decisions and Orders of the National Labor Relations Board.
The thesis is broken down into four parts. The first covers the evolution of the National Labor Relations Board. It outlines changes in the operations of the board as it developed up to 1964.
The second part is an analysis of the influence exercised by the …
Diversity In Perception Of Alternatives As Related To Selected Aptitude And Background Factors, Jane Agaya Lott
Diversity In Perception Of Alternatives As Related To Selected Aptitude And Background Factors, Jane Agaya Lott
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The relationship between breadth of perspective, defined as the range of alternative solutions that one is able to bring to mind when presented with a problem, and selected aptitude and background factors was studied. Scholastic aptitude was the chosen aptitude factor. The background factors chosen were: (1) size of home town; (2) number of towns lived in; (3) number of children in the family of origin; (4) the subject's perception of his travel experience; (5) number of books read during the past year; and (6) number of friends of other nationalities.
The sample consisted of 130 female students from five …
The Electric Utilities Rate Structure Determination, Walid M. Keilani
The Electric Utilities Rate Structure Determination, Walid M. Keilani
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this study is to analyze the determination of the rate structure of the electric utilities. It consists of three chapters.
The first chapter deals with the determination of the rate basis of electric utilities. The calculation of the rate base is explained, and also the problems of the price level changes.
The second chapter shows the calculation of the rate of return and the measures used for testing the fair rate of return.
The third chapter is an analysis showing the effect of the different cost and demand factors in determining the rate structure of electric utilities.
The Feasibility Of Pulp And Paper Production In Utah, Thomas Meyer
The Feasibility Of Pulp And Paper Production In Utah, Thomas Meyer
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The objectives of this study are:
l. To determine the adequacy of markets for paper products.
2. To identify and quantify the costs of the factors affecting pulp and paper production.
The available information indicates that adequate markets exist for paper produced in Utah.
Chemicals, water, labor, and power are available at costs low enough not to prohibit pulp and paper production. An adequate, low priced supply of wood could be purchased from the United States Forest Service. Intermountain and national paper markets would enable a paper producer in Utah to take advantage of lower comparative transportation costs.
The Consumption And Use Of Dairy Products And Their Substitutes In Metropolitan Salt Lake City, Jerry Lee Calley
The Consumption And Use Of Dairy Products And Their Substitutes In Metropolitan Salt Lake City, Jerry Lee Calley
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Consumption and use patterns for selected dairy products and their substitutes were described and related to certain socio-economic variables for consumers living in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The data for this thesis were gathered by means of a survey conducted from April 1967 through June 1967.
Salt Lake City households were large consumers of fluid milk, evaporated milk, butter, margarine, fruit juice and fruitade when compared to the western region and the nation.
By calculating the income elasticities for each of the four types of products, all were shown to be superior products with the exception of canned …

The Supreme Court As The Arbiter Of Economic Affairs Through Interpretation Of The Commerce Clause From 1789 Through 1937, Cloene Biggs
Honors Theses
Under the Articles of Confederation, Congress did not have the power to regulate interstate and foreign commerce. As a result, each state attempted to protect local business at the expense of the other states through the enforcing of trade barriers. Removal of these restrictions on commercial relations imposed by the "sovereign" states became one of the "moving purposes" which brought about the Constitutional Convention in 1787. There seems to be no doubt that the commerce clause was inserted in the Constitution to prevent the states from interfering with the freedom of commercial intercourse.
The constitutional meaning of the commerce …

Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project
The intention of this report is to present a still picture of the selected area as of the summer of 1966. The emphasis is on empirical relationships. The data contained herein will provide a base for subsequent analysis. Thus little attempt is made to cast the findings of the study in a theoretical framework. Later publications will utilize relevant theory and research to analyze the social and economic changes in an area related to the building of the Dickey and Lincoln School Dams. It is presumed that this particular report and its statistical supplement will be of particular interest to …
