How can you engage users with the history of your medical library? The TMC Library has a rich history that started in 1915, while Texas Medical Center started in the early 1940s. The TMC Library, which also has a historical center that regularly showcases archival materials using exhibits at library public spaces, started exploring additional options reaching out to a wider audience to view these exhibit materials since November 2022. With the TMC Library started using Digital Commons in 2005 with close to 1.85 million total downloads to this date, using other features of Digital Commons becomes logical choice. From …

"Cleaning-up and Marketing OHSU Digital Collections" focuses on the metadata clean-up and marketing of our new Tind digital collection platform. This lightning talk will highlight the work we did in OpenRefine to be able to have newly cleaned records to show people, increasing deposits. We will also share our communication plan which focuses on the following audiences: general students, faculty/program directors, researchers/research mission/, clinicians, and postdocs. In 2023, a large healthcare system transitioned their institutional repository's author profile service to an upgraded and more comprehensive platform, and in doing so re-energized author and leadership buy-in.

After Digital Commons'™ Expert Gallery Suite eliminated some functionality, institutional repository (IR) staff began the process of exploring other author profile platforms that would align with essential workflows. Elsevier's™ Pure rose to the top of compatible and robust platforms suitable to replace our previous solution.

The role of libraries at universities has grown over the years in surprising ways to improve service to the academic and student community. One such surprising change came from a project aimed at decreasing period poverty. The Period Equity Movement (PEM) was created in collaboration with the university’s Office of Student Wellness and Health Promotion through funding that came from a $48,000 Sustainability Fee grant and other internal funding. The grant specifically focused on purchasing reusable products such as menstrual cups and fabric pads and organic disposable tampons and pads. Studies show pleasure reading results in academic benefits but declines between elementary and secondary years. The question addressed is “what are the experiences in the lives of juniors (aged 16-18) that foster intrinsic motivation to read for pleasure?” Juniors from four mid-western U.S. schools with varied ethnic and socio-economic profiles were identified as highly and distinctly intrinsically motivated for pleasure reading. Interviews revealed participants excelled academically and had family members who were readers. They read to escape stress, occupy time, and investigate careers. Rarely reading for rewards, they were “opportunistic readers.” Relationships with librarians were important in finding good books …

This article describes a complex CRIS (current research information system) implementation project involving the migration of around 120,000 legacy publication records from three different systems. The project, undertaken by Tampere University, encountered several challenges in data diversity, data quality, and resource allocation. To handle the extensive and heterogenous dataset, innovative approaches such as machine learning techniques and various data wrangling tools were used to process data, correct errors, and merge information from different sources. Despite significant delays and unforeseen obstacles, the project was ultimately successful in achieving its goals. The project served as a valuable learning experience, highlighting the importance …

The study explored research data management readiness at the Uganda Cancer Institute. Its objectives were to; establish the state of research data and the institutional readiness for research data management practices. The case study applied a survey method using a questionnaire modified from the Data Asset Framework and the Community Capability Model Framework. The respondents were 60 staff members at different professional levels purposively selected. The findings show massive data generated from clinical trials, and routine cancer clinics at the institute. Many libraries have uncataloged collections or backlogs which could benefit from batch processing, but little guidance exists on how to conceptualize and plan such a project. I will share a framework I developed which categorizes types of batch cataloging projects and outlines the steps involved. I will also describe four projects we've done at JMU to illustrate how the framework can be applied to design a variety of metadata workflows.

My name is Dylan McElroy, a 30 year old man on the autism spectrum. I am writing this article in hopes of sharing my own experiences on what it means to be endlessly rejected, despite having the qualifications for the career/job field I wish to enter. It is my hope that those experiences will also help others on the path to success as constant rejection is painful, makes one question their self-worth, and various other horrible feelings.
