The Effect Of Tranquilizing Agents On Diadochokinetic Movement In A Senile Psychotic Population, Sam Larry Terzo
The Effect Of Tranquilizing Agents On Diadochokinetic Movement In A Senile Psychotic Population, Sam Larry Terzo
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Statement of the problem. The present study was designed to answer the question: What is the effect of tranquilizers, specifically phenothiazines , on diadochokinetic movement in a geriatric population? It was hypothesized that patients exhibiting overt effects of long term phenothiazine therapy (dyskinesia ) would show a reduced rate of diadochokinetic movement when compared with an age-matched group exhibiting no such symptoms and with no history of having taken tranquilizers . Furthermore, if this diadochokinetic movement were reduced, there would be a greater incidence of defective speech in this patient group .

Nurse-Patient Interpretations Of The Nurse's Touch, Judith Ann Trowbridge
Nurse-Patient Interpretations Of The Nurse's Touch, Judith Ann Trowbridge
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of this study was to discover whether or not patients and nurses derived a similar meaning from pictures of a nurse touching a patient in various ways. Five by seven inch black and white photographs were shown to thirty patients and thirty registered nurses. The subjects were controlled in regard to sex, race, residence, language, and physical and emotional orientation. They were asked to focus upon the photographed nurse's touch and to tell in one or two words what meaning they felt that the nurse was trying to convey to the patient by her touch. Responses were recorded …

Electronic Theses & Dissertations
Operant conditioning had its origin in research with infra-humans and later, when humans were used as subjects, the research was still done in a laboratory. Only within the last half of a decade has it been applied with any frequency to humans outside the laboratory.
An Odontometric Study Of Five Contemporary Western United States Indian And Alaskan Eskimo Groups, John A. Matis
An Odontometric Study Of Five Contemporary Western United States Indian And Alaskan Eskimo Groups, John A. Matis
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The morphologic characteristics of the oral cavity in five contemporary Western Indian and Alaskan Eskimo groups have been investigated by the use of study models of the dental archs. The sample consisted of 216 individuals, including 44 Navajos, 43 Apaches, 40 Papagos, 42 Pimas and 47 Alaskan Eskimos.
The first purpose of the study was to determine the extent of investigator error. This was accomplished by remeasuring many morphologic traits of the dentition in 125 Indians which had previously been measured by different investigators using the same study models. It was found that investigator error can be significant, even in …

Assessing Manifest Coping Behavior Of Mentally Retarded Institutionalized Males With An Observational Technique, Daryle I. Bass
Assessing Manifest Coping Behavior Of Mentally Retarded Institutionalized Males With An Observational Technique, Daryle I. Bass
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
It was the purpose of the present study to explore the feasibility of investigating naturally occurring behavior of mental retardates with an observational technique.
Twelve mentally retarded male subjects, ages sixteen to twenty one, with Adaptive Behavior levels of upper III, were observed for a total of four observational time blocks of fifteen minutes each. From the collected data 105 behavioral events were extracted, and sorted as to their appropriateness or inappropriateness in the behavioral setting. Each subject was assigned scores based on frequency counts of occurrence of appropriate and inappropriate behaviors manifested during his four observational time blocks. Rank …

An Anthropometric Study Of The Face And Dentition Of The Pima Indian Population At The Stewart Indian School, Carson City, Nevada, Wilmonte Lee Penner
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Study casts and cephalograms were obtained on 18 female and 21 male Pima Indian students from the Stewart Indian Boarding School, Carson City, Nevada. Dentitional characteristics were assessed both clinically and by study casts. Cranio-facial analyses were performed by utilizing the skeletal and denture pattern variables suggested by the Downs and Riedel cephalometric analyses.
The purpose of this study was two-fold: (1) to determine the extent to which the Pima conforms to the Mongoloid master pattern, and (2) to test whether or not significant differences exist between the Pima and other Mongoloid groups which would allow discrimination.
The results of …

All humane societies are dedicated to preventing cruelty and suffering. No society can effectively prevent cruelty unless it makes spaying compulsory for all females released for adoption and talks spaying to every owner of a female. Even if the home is a good one in every other respect, if a female is permitted to produce even one litter, the humane society is simply delaying or postponing cruelty. In fact, it is perpetuating it. When the female (which your society otherwise placed so carefully) has a litter, often its owners are not qualified to judge what constitutes a good home. In …

The Relationship Of Instructions During Labor And Relaxation, Frances Josephine Hume Lopez
The Relationship Of Instructions During Labor And Relaxation, Frances Josephine Hume Lopez
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
A causal-comparative study was done in a county hospital using twenty subjects to determine if the ''unprepared" primigravida patient in active labor will experience less pain if given instructions to aid relaxation. It was hypothesized that the "unprepared" primigravida patients receiving continuous nurse attendance plus instructions to aid relaxation by (1) breathing techniques, and (2) body positions would show less evidences of pain, tension and anxiety during the first and second stages of labor than the group of patients which received only the continuous nurse attendance.
Two devices, (1) a structured observation, (2) a questionnaire with fixed-alternative questions, were used …

Morbidity, Growth And Development Of Prematurely-Born Twins In Early Childhood, Lynelle King
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
This study was concerned with the problem of determining the effect of twinship on the prematurely-born twin's growth and physical and emotional morbidity during early childhood. The immediate purposes of the study were to compare prematurely-born twins with prematurely-born singletons regarding their incidence and types of physical and emotional morbidity, and their growth during early childhood. It was hypothesized that prematurely-born twins have slower growth and more physical and emotional morbidity than prematurely born singletons. The descriptive survey method was used. From children cared for at a selected premature clinic, nineteen twins were matched with nineteen singletons for: race, sex, …
