Changes In The Body Posture Of Elder Women Under The Influence Of Various Nordic Walking Training Programs, Monika Wiech, Krzysztof Prusik, Zbigniew Ossowski, Jakub Kortas
Changes In The Body Posture Of Elder Women Under The Influence Of Various Nordic Walking Training Programs, Monika Wiech, Krzysztof Prusik, Zbigniew Ossowski, Jakub Kortas
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background:One of the effects of involution is the change in the body posture. Muscles lose their flexibility and strength, causing the typical changes in body posture of the elderly. Hyperkyphosis is a typical feature of the posture, which leads to serious health problems. The aim of the study was to analyse changes in the body posture of elderly women who took part in diversified Nordic walking training.Material and methods:The study group comprised 90 elderly women divided into two experimental groups and control. The main method was an experiment. The tested women took part in a 6-month Nordic walking training cycle. …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background:Bipedal leg squat is a common rehabilitation exercise. It is used for evaluation of lower limb function and pelvis and core stability. The aim of this study was a comparison of the lower limb, pelvis and spine ranges of motion in subjects with different declared physical activity level during bipedal squat. Material and methods:Twenty healthy student-volunteers took part in this investigation. Based on the author’s questionnaire, they were divided into two groups: “higher” and “lower” physical activity level. Participants performed a two-leg squat with maximal depth, and returned to the standing position. The tridimensional motion of the ankle, knee, hip, …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background: Exercise programmes consisting of stepping were found to significantly reduce incidence of falls in the elderly. The aim of this case study was to evaluate the feasibility of step counts and to identify a specific dose, i.e. the amount and intensity of stepping during a multicomponent balance specific exercise programme. Material and methods: Thirty fit community-dwelling older adults (69.7 ±6.2 years) participated in the study. The number of steps and the intensity of stepping per training unit was recorded with StepWatch pedometers. Results: The average recorded number of steps per one-hour training unit was 1100 ±215. The intensity level …

The Effects Of Conventional And Minimalist Footwear On Hip And Knee Joint Kinetics During Maximal Depth Jump, Jonathan Sinclair
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background:The aim of the current investigation was to examine the effects of minimalist and conventional footwear on the loads experienced by the hip and knee joints during the depth jump. Material and methods:Ten male participants performed depth jumps onto a force platform in each footwear condition. Kinematics of the lower extremities were also quantified using an eight-camera infra-red motion capture system, allowing hip and knee kinetics to be calculated. Differences between footwear were tested using paired samples t-tests. Results:Peak hip and knee joint forces were found to be significantly larger in minimalist (hip = 4.62 & knee = 4.74 BW) …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background:The article has a developmental character (application); it raises problems connected with an objective assessment of an individual game.Material and methods:Based on the assumption that an individual action constitutes the basis of team game, a praxeology evaluation of individual game in situations of footballer’s sports fight with high format (152 finalists of EURO 2012) was conducted in the work. These actions, due to the nature of sports games (pressing) and a great performing difficulty (action in the discomfort) make a significant element of the footballers’ training, which is becoming a necessity to get a high score in the modern game. Results:The …

The Effect Of Vitamin D3 On The Osteointegration Of Dental Implants, Grzegorz Trybek, Magda Aniko Wlodarczyk, Jakub Kwiatek, Olga Preuss, Andrzej Brodkiewicz, Andrzej Sinicyn, Anna Grzywacz
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Dental surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons and implantologists are increasingly interested in the effects of vitamin D on bone metabolism and the immune system. The correct concentration of this prohormone potentially correlates with success at each stage of osteointegration of endosseous implants.A review of literature related to the topic of the paper.A suitable level of vitamin D3 is crucial from the day of surgery. It influences the modulation of the immune system – increases the production of cathelicidin and defensin, and reduces the expression of proinflammatory cytokines. It also has a positive effect on bone metabolism in osteo-suppression via the induction of …
Paediatric Physical Activity And Health: Moving Towards A Measure Of Quality, Cain C.T. Clark, Claire M. Barnes
Paediatric Physical Activity And Health: Moving Towards A Measure Of Quality, Cain C.T. Clark, Claire M. Barnes
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
It is clear that physical activity, holistically, is linked with several positive factors through the life course. There exists a large evidence base for physical activity quantity, yet there has been little integration of physical activity qualities, and whilst qualityis a nebulous term, recent developments in literature suggest it may be a viable measure in the characterisation of physical activity. The purpose of the study was to comprehensively review the development towards a measure of physical activity quality.A review of literature was conducted using online databases: Web of Science, PubMed and Google Scholar. A narrative review was subsequently prepared on …

Tell Me More: Parent–Child Sexual Talk And Young Adult Sexual Communication Satisfaction With Romantic Partners, Kelsi N. Wilson, Jakob Jensen, Sharon Ballard, Alan Taylor
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
Young adults (18–30) tend to show insufficient levels of communication about sex with their romantic partners, despite its many benefits to relationships among this age group. Learned sexual shame and guilt can play a role in inhibiting sexual communication with partners, and early messages about sex from parents stemming from narrow cultural boundaries of communication may play a role in fostering sexual shame and guilt from a young age, potentially influencing later sexual communication patterns with partners. We sought to identify whether a significant relationship existed between the sexual communication participants received from parents while growing up and their current …
