The present study investigates the phenomenon of climate denial through a new theoretical framework of privilege. The analysis utilizes a feminist orientation that builds on a historical interpretation through the lens of colonialism. Through the dissection of current multidisciplinary understandings of climate denial and new concepts discovered in the review of academic literature and popular media, a compilation of theory, relationship, and connection is made. Systems of power and privilege are examined and connected to the mechanisms and maintenance of climate denial. Conservatives and liberals often disagree about what the public good is, or what the priorities of corporate governance should be, but both sides are discontent with corporations focusing only on profits.

This Article discusses reasons why political conservatives should support efforts to include environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in corporate governance. The U.S. appears to be increasingly politically divided between “red states” and “blue states,” to the point that many public voices on both sides are urging that the country seriously consider separating along a red-blue divide. A range of stark public disagreements over criminal law issues have fed the secession movement. Consider obvious examples such as abortion, decriminalization of marijuana, “stand your ground” statutes, the death penalty, and concealed weapon carry laws. Are red and blue values so fundamentally different that we ought to recognize a reality in which there exists red codes and blue codes?

Political questions in litigation abound, particularly as the Democratic and Republican parties grow further apart ideologically: Who will be the Speaker of the House, whether to impeach presidents or judges, and whether to expel Members of Congress accused of corruption. The Constitution sets up a separation of powers, where the legislative, executive, and judicial branches can check each other. However, there is a similar doctrine where courts refuse to hear a case because the case presents a topic better left to the political branches: the political question doctrine.

This phenomenological study asks what the effects on a healthy and vibrant democracy are if ballots are blank and the seat is filled through write-in or appointment. In late 2022, Congress and the state of California enacted a set of sweeping policies expected to hasten the shift to clean energy dramatically in the coming years. These policies will reduce long-term physical risk to banks and the financial system from climate change. At the same time, they may dramatically increase nearer-term risks to banks that are underprepared for the economic transition to clean energy. This Essay sketches the likely implications of these new policies for banks’ transition risk and recommends responses for bank regulators.

While much of the discussion surrounding AAM focuses on the technical aspects of the nascent industry, estimates of the potential economic impact vary significantly. This mixed method sequential explanatory study provided analysis of North Carolina (NC) school leaders’ dispositions in eliminating opportunity gaps, outlined in NC’s strategic plan. The study’s quantitative phase used descriptive and correlation analysis of eight Likert subscales around four tenets of transformative leadership (Shields, 2011) and aspects of critical race theory (Bell, 1992; Ladson-Billings, 1998; Ladson-Billings & Tate, 2006) to understand systemic inequities and leadership attitudes.

Female Marine veterans are a group that intersects two at-risk populations, Marines and female veterans, and the potential struggles associated with them. Marine veterans have among the highest rates of suicide after transition, as well as one of the highest military sexual trauma (MST) rates. Studies indicate that women veterans are at risk for intimate partner violence (IPV), housing instability, and PTSD. Additionally, various social factors impact female veterans, such as a lack of familial support. Utilizing a qualitative research framework that combines narrative inquiry with Emergent Strategy and Community Cultural Wealth theories, this study explores the intricacies of developing CLTs as a counter-narrative to traditional models of property ownership. The first chapter examines New York State's Fiscal Score Monitoring program to find the effect of two quality labels on school district outcomes: fiscal stress scores, reflecting the budget solvency, and environmental stress labels reflecting economic and demographic conditions. Using the NYS school district data from 2013-22, I employ the regression discontinuity design to find the effect of stress labels, in response to the political pressure on district finances, housing, and school outcomes. I find the effect of fiscal stress label is limited, leading to a decrease in the fund balance ratio and an increase in the tax rate. However, …

This report seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies presented by the Veterans Education Task Force in 2014. These strategies were: 1) establishing an annual Veterans Training Academy to train faculty and staff from higher education institutions on effectively supporting student veterans; 2) providing competitive funding grants to incentivize the development of innovative programs aimed at recruiting and retaining student veterans until degree completion; and 3) creating a comprehensive online educational resource, including a program to translate military service into college credits, to assist student veterans in their academic pursuits. This IVMF research review identifies challenges in veterans' transition to civilian life, despite available support. It highlights mental health issues like suicidality and low life satisfaction, possibly linked to cultural identity conflicts. Veterans' attempts to address this may lead to feelings of isolation, impacting mental health. The authors recommend studying immigrant acculturation experiences to understand veterans' identity struggles, proposing "reculturation" as a term. They advocate for clinical psychology to prioritize understanding this process to improve program engagement and suicide prevention. This dissertation comprises three essays that collectively explore the intricacies of subnational public finance in Indonesia: vehicle tax amnesty, property tax competition, and corruption. The research aims to understand the dynamics shaping fiscal policies at the subnational level.

In the first essay, I examine vehicle tax amnesty programs in Indonesia that have been very popular in dealing with high delinquency rates. From 2008 to 2020, provincial amnesties occurred every 2.5 years on average. Using the variation in the timing of the province’s amnesty adoptions, I estimate the effect of vehicle tax amnesty on vehicle tax revenue using difference-in-differences. The short-run …

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic was a “watershed moment" in human history, transcending its role as a mere health crisis to reveal deeper fissures within societies. The present retrospective longitudinal study examined COVID-19 as an “era” of complexity utilizing it as an intermediate construct that delineates “pre-COVID” and “post-COVID.” In order to understand the impact of the COVID-19 era, the design of the study and hypotheses stem from an assumption of the interconnectedness of issues related to health, social justice, racial justice, politics, and information dissemination.
