The Place Of Rehabilitation In The Home For Incurables : A Study Of One Hundred Patients In The King's Daughters' Home For Incurables, Louisville, Kentucky, December 31, 1947., Gretna Lillian Brown
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since 1909, the King's Daughters' Home for Incurables in Louisville, Kentucky, has provided institutional care for physically handicapped persons who are residents of Kentucky. A hospital survey done by the Kentucky State Board of Health in 1945-46 classified the Home as a "custodial-type institution", and did not include it in the survey, as it was not considered a hospital. Surveys on phases of the work of the institution were done in 1914 (Haven Emerson Survey) and in 1940 (Health and Welfare Council Survey) for administrative purposes. This year the work of the Home has provided the material for three theses …
The Development Of Professional Education For Social Work At The Raymond A. Kent School Of Social Work Of The University Of Louisville, 1918-1946., Maurice L. Kohnhorst
The Development Of Professional Education For Social Work At The Raymond A. Kent School Of Social Work Of The University Of Louisville, 1918-1946., Maurice L. Kohnhorst
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It would be impossible to single out any individual or group and give credit tor the development of the Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work. There are names which bring to mind real achievement and tremendous effort in the field which they had chosen and to which they had dedicated their service; names which lived through years of discouragement and disillusionment; names which perhaps have been forgotten with the passage of time but played vital roles in different periods of the development of the school. This, therefore, is not an account of things happening, but in reality, an account …

A Study Of Veterans Readmitted To Nichols Veterans Administration Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky, After Having Been Discharged "Improved" And Received "Maximum Hospital Benefits" From April Through December, 1946., Jeanne Lacourse
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This is a study of patients readmitted to Nichols Veterans Administration Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky during the period of April through December of 1946. This particular project was undertaken because on general observation, there appeared to be an unusual number of patients being readmitted to the hospital after having received "maximum hospital benefits" at a previous hospital admission and having been discharged "improved". To bear out this observation, a sample study was made over a ten day period and it was found that 14 percent of all the patients being admitted were readmissions. Since this was true, the question arose …

This study is an attempt to follow the development of the group of children who attended the Mental Hygiene Clinic Nursery School of Louisville, Kentucky in its first three years, September, 1939 through May, 1942. The children were studied on a comparative basis of their behavior in the two school situations - nursery school in 1939-1942 and elementary school in 1946. Uses Of Local And Outside Agencies By People Living In The Open Country Community Of Benson, Utah, Ezra Woolley Geddes
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Open country farming in Utah came late in the pioneer period having been preceded by compact settlement in villages. These villages were located on mountain streams near mouths of canyons on higher ground. Reasons for compact settlement were: (1) Early environment probably influenced many of the Utah settlers who came from New England were villages were patterned after the compact European agricultural village. (2) Compact settlement was basic to the plan for the "City of Zion" envisaged by Latter Day Saint leaders in 1833. In Utah, settlement in such villages resulted from adherence of members to precepts of L.D.S. Church …

The Problem Of The Chronically Ill In Louisville, Kentucky, 1946., Dinard S. Carr
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Although the problems and implications of chronic illness will be discussed in their broader outlines, the purpose of this study is to see more specifically how chronic illness affects a particular group of patients. The questions, what are the problems and the needs of the chronically ill, what is the community doing to meet those needs, what are the facilities and what should they be, will be related to a representative sample of Louisville General Hospital patients. Many civic groups in Louisville have been articulate in expressing the need for planning for better convalescent and chronic care, among them the …

A Study Of German-Austrian Refugees In Louisville, Kentucky., Lina K. Wolff
A Study Of German-Austrian Refugees In Louisville, Kentucky., Lina K. Wolff
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This paper will deal with the adjustment of refugees in an American middle-sized city, Louisville, Kentucky. It will attempt to touch the background and past of the group, but it will be pointed to a question which indeed is vital to each refugee: What does he make of his life after immigration? Can what was in origin compulsory, become constructive for the future? Will America for him be more than a haven of refuge after a harassing persecution - will it be a home for him and his children? And the answer to these questions is inextricably tied up with …

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The Northwestern Shoshone Indians is the tribe of Indians that inhabited the territory north of the Great Salt Lake comprising the northern part of Utah and the Southern part of Idaho. The Indians have loose boundary lines, yet we can definitely state that this tribe occupied the territory from the Weber river on the South to the Snake river on the North; from Bear Lake and Bear river on the East to Raft river and Goose creek on the West. Their confines would take in Weber, Rich, Box Elder, Cache, and part of Morgan, counties in Utah; and Bear Lake, …
