How To Make A Hybrid Workplace More Human?, Ray Sun
How To Make A Hybrid Workplace More Human?, Ray Sun
Masters Theses
After COVID-19 hit, a new working method has appeared, the remote workers have an opportunity sitting at home attending zoom meetings and getting job done. While companies initially turned to remote work out of necessity, they soon realized that employees could remain productive while working from home. As the world began to reopen, many companies chose to continue with hybrid or fully remote working situations.
However, hybrid work has created challenges for maintaining a sense of collaboration and connection. Can this discomfort caused by telecommunication be solved by new tech involved? Designers are currently exploring various products and devices to …
Child Sexual Assault Prevention And Intervention, Kira Peterson, Amaya Ibuna, Emily Valenzuela
Child Sexual Assault Prevention And Intervention, Kira Peterson, Amaya Ibuna, Emily Valenzuela
Psychology and Child Development
In our paper, we discuss child sexual assault, its risk factors, short and long-term outcomes, as well as prevention and intervention programs that have been shown to be valuable. To limit research, our focus will be on children living in the United States who have been physically sexually assaulted. To spread awareness of child sexual abuse, we also developed a pamphlet (See Appendix) that will be distributed to CASAs, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. The development of the pamphlet is described in the combined Method and Results section. We conclude our project and paper with a Discussion section …
Mental Illness Through The Eyes Of Iraqi Ontarians: Unheard Voices For Conventional Mental Health Supports, Mohamad Musa
Mental Illness Through The Eyes Of Iraqi Ontarians: Unheard Voices For Conventional Mental Health Supports, Mohamad Musa
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
While the influx of Middle Eastern migrant groups continues to grow around the world, displaced Iraqis make up a significant portion of this inflow as they flee Iraq’s internal conflict and corruption, leaving behind political, economic, and environmental disparities. The 2011 National Household Survey found that Canada is home to 49,680 Iraqis, with more than 37,000 refugees who arrived between 2003 and 2018. The author conducted an exploratory qualitative research study to explain the perceptions of mental illness among Iraqi migrant groups in Ontario, Canada. Utilizing critical realism as the philosophical framework for this study, the author used a combination …
The Impact Of Leadership Turnover On Child Welfare Workforce Initiatives, Courtney Harrison, Megan Paul
The Impact Of Leadership Turnover On Child Welfare Workforce Initiatives, Courtney Harrison, Megan Paul
QIC-Takes
Turnover among public child welfare leaders is prevalent. Across the eight QIC-WD intervention sites, leadership turnover was one of the most common implementation challenges observed by the QIC-WD team. Leadership changes can disrupt the implementation of a workforce initiative by shifting agency-level priorities, the organizational climate, or key staff.
Child welfare leaders may be appointed or hired in many different ways in different jurisdictions. In some states, the Governor appoints a cabinet-level child welfare director who oversees a stand-alone agency. This means that child welfare leadership changes follow the political election cycle with new governors appointing new agency leaders every …
Assessing The Risk, Addressing The Need: A Mixed Method Approach To Designing A Strengths-Based, Post-Incarceration, Correctional Assessment For Women, Rashonda Johnson
Assessing The Risk, Addressing The Need: A Mixed Method Approach To Designing A Strengths-Based, Post-Incarceration, Correctional Assessment For Women, Rashonda Johnson
Dissertations
Women are the fastest-growing segment of the incarcerated population, steadily increasing since 1985 (ACLU, n.d.). More than one million women are behind bars or have some involvement with the criminal justice system. The rapid growth of incarceration among women has led scholars and researchers to address the growing needs and risk levels that lead to increased recidivism rates. The creation of assessment tools specifically focused on female populations began in 1999. However, before this time, instruments were historically designed for men within the criminal justice system, and addendums were added to these tools to be used with female populations (Voorhis …

Estimation methods to identify the causal relationships between dependent and independent variables are fundamental to social science research. For social workers, these methods provide crucial knowledge about different factors' complex relationships with a particular issue. Such knowledge helps social workers be better micro, mezzo, and macro change agents.
Different causal estimation methods exist, from randomized controlled studies to methods involving observational studies. In observational studies, which is the focus of this dissertation, participants self-select into intervention. This behavior makes causal estimation more challenging. Since participants self-select into intervention or treatment, there are observed and unobserved differences between participants in the …
Factors Associated With The Life Satisfaction Of Gay And Bisexual Men And Their Variation By Race, Robert G. Considine
Factors Associated With The Life Satisfaction Of Gay And Bisexual Men And Their Variation By Race, Robert G. Considine
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Although the literature is replete with evidence showing that gay and bisexual men experience higher rates of negative outcomes than their heterosexual counterparts, the literature exploring the well-being of this population is limited. Life satisfaction is a key aspect of well-being. There has been little research on the factors influencing life satisfaction for gay and bisexual men. Additionally, how these factors may vary by race for this population remains understudied. This gap in our knowledge impedes the ability of social workers to support gay and bisexual men in increasing life satisfaction. In addition, knowledge of how these factors vary by …

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
The study objective is to test the influence of social capital and social support on subjective well-being. It is also interested in the combined effects of macro-level factors as encapsulated in a macro-level variable - country that exerts influence on micro-level variables such as social capital and social capital. Additionally, the present study is one of the earliest studies to begin to assess the effect of older adults' perception of neighborhood happiness or sadness on the subjective well-being of older adults in a sub-Saharan Africa context.
Data comes from wave 1 of a multi-country Study on Global Ageing and Adult …

Witnessing Climate Change In The United States Virgin Islands: Emotional Responses And Calls For Action, Thomas Bane
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Climate change is one of the greatest threats facing humanity in the 21st century. This study investigated people’s observations of climate change in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI). A qualitative study was used with a Grounded Theory approach to better understand how people witnessed climate change events, what people’s emotional responses were, and what calls for action they had to respond to climate change in the USVI. The study had two parallel arms: five focus groups (n=17) with residents of the USVI and key informant interviews with community leaders (n=10). Participants witnessed a wide …

Evaluation Of The Dsm-5 Internet Gaming Disorder Measures: A Cosmin Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Vivien Wen Li Anthony, Devin Mills Ph.D, Lia Nower
International Conference on Gambling & Risk Taking
Due to the rising concern of problem video gaming, the DSM-5 has suggested including Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) as a possible new behavioral addiction and proposed nine criteria to assess IGD. In response, a number of measurement instruments have been developed based on the DSM-5 IGD criteria. This presentation will discuss results from a systematic review that evaluated psychometric properties of these measures. Systematic search identified 22 measures. Meta-analysis revealed that 3.1% of the general population and 6.4% of video gamers had IGD. The estimated prevalence rates largely varied across different measures. Although many measures demonstrated satisfactory structural and construct …

Ethnic Studies Research Paper Award
Our podcast attempts to convey indigenous healing efforts since the time of BIA schools in the United States. With the ICWA ruled unconstitutional, we ask what have the lived experiences been of native children who were forcibly removed from their families and tribes? And what does this mean for children who might now be taken away from their families again without the protection of the ICWA?
