“Dine Out For Hunger” Set For National Hunger And Homelessness Week, Cedarville University

For the seventh consecutive year, Cedarville University’s social work program will lead a “Dine Out for Hunger” event in order to raise awareness of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week, November 17-22.

“The goal of the event is to educate people about hunger and homelessness in our community,” said Julie Furj-Kuhn, assistant professor of social work. “It will also serve as a way to support area businesses.”

Participating restaurants will donate up to 50 percent of their proceeds during the campaign to the Cedar Cliff Ministerial Association (CCMA). The charitable organization will use the money to help fund a food …

Forensic Science Students Intern With Fbi, Shannon M. Eighmey

For two forensic science students at Cedarville University, doing an internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is their first step in securing a dream job.

The seniors, Danielle Banks, from Lexington, Kentucky, and Mayra Chavez, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, were chosen from a national pool of applicants for the FBI’s Honors Internship Program. Both Banks and Chavez used the past summer to begin learning from practical experience with the FBI agency in their hometown. Banks and Chavez are the first Cedarville students to be chosen for the highly competitive program.

African Children’S Choir To Perform At Cedarville University, Jennifer Taggart

The African Children’s Choir will perform at Cedarville University Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center.The event is open to the public and there is no admission charge.

The choir is part of the Music for Life Institute, an international organization that brings humanitarian aid to African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. The organization operates out of Canada, the UK, South Africa and China in addition to the United States.

Cedarville geology and geoscience students are working on two senior projects using an Unmanned Aerial System(UAS), or a drone, as part of a partnership with Remote Intelligence, LLC., in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.

Remote Intelligence is partnering with Cedarville to provide guidance and material resources to students. Cedarville and Remote Intelligence are also in preliminary talks to study how UAS systems could help in the planning, construction, and monitoring of natural gas pipelines.
