Extra-Curricular Life Of Overseas Student Teachers, Michael W. Firmin, Ruth L. Firmin, Brenda B. Mackay

Education Faculty Publications

Overseas student-teaching is becoming increasingly popular among American college students. Unfortunately, relatively little is known empirically regarding how these students find their experiences—academically or outside of the teaching classroom. Consequently, the present research study used rigorous qualitative methods in order to appraise extra-curricular experiences from a sample of 13 students who completed their student teaching overseas. Results showed students to experience surface relationships with nationals and deeper connections with faculty. While the student teachers reported participating in various excursions alongside nationals, they generally categorized their connections with these people on surface levels, explaining that relationships were hindered by language barrier …

Improving Student Training Through Computer-Based Tutorials, Joshua B. Michael

Library Faculty Publications

The use of computer-based training for student employees was explored through a recent project. Tutorials were designed and created using a free software program, Wink. The tutorials covered use of electronic resources and circulation programs and were used in training newly hired and continuing student employees. Written exercises requiring use of the information covered in the tutorials were administered subsequently. The advantages of computer-based training for aspects of student library employment were contrasted with its disadvantages. Computer-based training was found to be an effective part of training student employees.

The Image Of God In The Human Body: Essays On Christianity And Sports, Donald L. Deardorff Ii, John White

Faculty Books

This work uses sports as a metaphor for humanity itself. Using a biblical structure: creation, fall, and redemption, the editors show how God may have intended us to enjoy sport, how we have corrupted sports, and how we might reattach ourselves to God's original purposes through sport.

Living In Interesting Times: The Economics Of A Chinese Currency Attack, Jeffrey E. Haymond Jan 2008

Living In Interesting Times: The Economics Of A Chinese Currency Attack, Jeffrey E. Haymond

Business Administration Faculty Publications

Several large near-peer competitors, such as Russia and China, have amassed large levels of dollar-denominated foreign exchange reserves. This raises concern that these states could deliberately sell off assets to harm the dollar’s value. Currency attacks have historically been a part of warfare, and the recent advent of nation-states that have large reserves suggests it is possible the United States could face this threat. Contemporary public discussion has often lacked depth and been at one of two extremes: either (1) China could destroy the United States if it chose to sell off its treasuries, or (2) the Chinese would lose …

Psychology Faculty Publications

In a double-blind study, 60 General Psychology students, selected in low, average, and high ACT ranges, were administered the Reynolds Intellectual Assessment Scales (RIAS). On a separate occasion, the students also completed web-based internet IQ tests from tickle.com, queendom.com, and iqtest.com. MANOVA results showed that ACT level had a significant effect on all four IQ scores combined (Wilk’s Lambda = .451, p
