Embracing Expanded Librarian Roles In Scholarly Communications, Ngoc-Yen Tran, Emily K. Chan
Faculty and Staff Publications
Scholars have many different ways of promoting and sharing their work in the current information landscape. In addition to the traditional modes of research and scholarly dissemination, faculty can develop their professional online personas and identities and build social and digital communities to promote their thoughts, ideas, and achievements. For faculty who are new to academia and/or seeking efficiencies in managing and leveraging tools to maximize their online scholarly impact, this brave new world of social media can be incredibly daunting and complex. Librarians are uniquely poised to assist. Librarians serve the entire campus community and have the reputation for …
Integrating Circulated Technology Into The Library Collection Development Plan, Neil Ordinario
Integrating Circulated Technology Into The Library Collection Development Plan, Neil Ordinario
Faculty and Staff Publications
Academic libraries are increasingly focused on the acquisition and expansion of circulating technology collections. These collections are often governed by auxiliary library services such as Access Services or IT departments and not considered as part of the general collection. Technology purchases are typically made with one-time-use funds and replacement is an ad-hoc process depending on budget availability. Users are rarely consulted regarding new purchases and systematic analysis of usage is lacking. As laptops, tablets and other technologies become integral to a library’s circulated resources, they need to be integrated as part of the regular collection and included in the library’s …

Path2 Services Court: A Process Evaluation, Octavio Jimenez
Path2 Services Court: A Process Evaluation, Octavio Jimenez
Master's Projects
In 2014, the Santa Clara County Superior Court received a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant to improve the efficacy of the Juvenile Treatment Court (JTC) and Court for the Individualized Treatment of Adolescents (CITA) programs by streamlining the referral, screening, and court hearing processes. Receipt of the grant allowed the Superior Court to integrate JTC and CITA to establish the Progress Achieved Through Hope and Holistic Services (PATH2 Services) Court.
This research analyzed whether the Santa Clara County Superior Court successfully integrated the JTC and CITA programs when it established PATH2 Services. In addition it determined …
The Santa Clara County Reentry Resource Center: Reentry Service Linkage And The One-Stop Shop Model, Rose Redlich
The Santa Clara County Reentry Resource Center: Reentry Service Linkage And The One-Stop Shop Model, Rose Redlich
Master's Projects
AB 109 has resulted in a significantly greater need for reentry programs and services across California. Many county law enforcement officials now view reentry programs and services as a promising approach for keeping recidivism rates low.
Santa Clara County has recognized the value of well-coordinated, quick, and efficient reentry service delivery. In response to AB 109, the Office of the Sheriff and Department of Correction partnered with the Probation Department, Office of the County Executive, Behavioral Health Services Department, Custody Health Department, Ambulatory Care, and the Social Services Agency to establish the Santa Clara County Reentry Resource Center (SCCRC) in …
Do Americans’ Opinions About Federal Transportation Tax Options Depend On Survey Mode? A Comparison Of Results From Telephone And Online Surveys, Hilary Nixon, Asha Weinstein Agrawal
Do Americans’ Opinions About Federal Transportation Tax Options Depend On Survey Mode? A Comparison Of Results From Telephone And Online Surveys, Hilary Nixon, Asha Weinstein Agrawal
Mineta Transportation Institute
This research project compared the results from a public opinion survey about transportation taxes that was administered using two different survey modes, a national, random-digit-dial (RDD) telephone survey and an online survey with respondents recruited from a panel. There is considerable interest among survey researchers in using online survey panels as a replacement for RDD surveys. RDD surveys are becoming much more expensive to conduct, and researchers also worry that the quality of the results may be dropping because of rising refusal rates for phone surveys. However, a key question for researchers is to understand how a study’s results may …

Is Excellence Inclusive? The Benefits Of Fostering Black Female College Athlete's Sense Of Belonging, Akilah R. Carter-Francique
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
The purpose of this research note is to urge intercollegiate athletic departments and their administrators to foster a sense of belonging amongst Black female college athletes to aid in their felt membership as a college athlete and support their development as viable employment candidates in college sport. Black female college athletes’ graduation rates are on the rise; however, these being hired at dismal rates in college sport. By fostering a sense of belonging, Black female college athletes as a historically marginalized group are able to feel a sense of connectedness in the athletics and greater university environment; athletic departments commit …
