Are Employment-Interview Skills A Correlate Of Subtypes Of Schizophrenia?, James Charisiou, Henry J. Jackson, Gregory J. Boyle, Philip Burgess, Harry I. Minas, Stephen D. Joshua
Gregory J. Boyle
46 inpatients with a DSM-III diagnosis of schizophrenia were assessed in the week prior to discharge from hospital on measures of positive and negative symptoms and on 12 measures of employment interview skills (i.e., eye contact, facial gestures, body posture, verbal content, voice volume, length of speech, motivation, self-confidence, ability to communicate, manifest adjustment, manifest intelligence, over-all interview skill), and a global measure of employability. A cluster analysis based on the total positive and negative symptom scores produced two groups. The group with the lower mean negative symptom score exhibited better employment-interview skills and higher ratings on employability.
Collaborative Research In Genetics, Maheswarappa B S
Collaborative Research In Genetics, Maheswarappa B S
Prof B S Maheswarappa
Studies the collaborative research in Genetics based on authorship data collected from Genetics Abstracts 1970, 1975, 1980 and 1985. Slightly less than 80% of papers in genetics were by multiple authors. Two author papers outnumber single-author papers as well as papers with three or more authors and the proportions have changed over the years in favour of multiple authorship. The average number of papers has increased from 2•3 to 3•13 and so also the degree of collaboration from 0•70 to 0•84. The two-author papers were a maximum in 14 research fronts. The highest proportion of multi-author papers (80%) were found …

Direct Tests Of The Rational Expectations Hypothesis: A Study Of Italian Entrepreneurs’ Inflationary Expectations (1980-1988), Claudio Lupi
Direct Tests Of The Rational Expectations Hypothesis: A Study Of Italian Entrepreneurs’ Inflationary Expectations (1980-1988), Claudio Lupi
Claudio Lupi
The primary concern of this paper is to test the rational expectations hypothesis for Italian entrepreneurs' inflationary expectations between 1980 and 1988 using monthly observed expectations. Particular care is devoted to analyzing the problems arising when multiperiod expectations and a nonwhite noise measurement error in the expectations series are considered. The empirical analysis is carried out using cross correlations on ARIMA residuals and transfer function models. This technique seems to be particularly appealing for rationality testing.

Plan Distrito Metropolitano. Quito Del Futuro Fase 2.

Unobtrusive Studies And The Quality Of Academic Library Reference Services, Jo Bell Whitlatch
Jo Bell Whitlatch
This article uses empirical data from a recent obtrusive study of reference performance to explore content validity and assumptions regarding unobtrusive studies. Data collected by author support the contention that improvements are highly desirable before conducting more unobtrusive studies of reference service. The two most important changes concern the development of test questions representing all types of queries and supplementing the correct fill rate with other measures of reference performance.

Stock Banks And Mutual Banks, Eric Bennett Rasmusen
Stock Banks And Mutual Banks, Eric Bennett Rasmusen
Eric Bennett Rasmusen
Because mutual banks do not allow shareholders to discipline bad managers and so have higher costs, they have been disappearing since bank entry deregulation in the 1980's. They were common before regulation in the 1930's, and are more common in the 19th century. I propose that this is because of the absence of deposit insurance. Depositors wanted safety more than low operating costs, and a mutual manager, in a cushy job he could not lose except by bankrupting his firm, would also value safety.

Entry For Buyout, Eric Bennett Rasmusen
Entry For Buyout, Eric Bennett Rasmusen
Eric Bennett Rasmusen
Entry into a monopolized industry may be profitable if the entrant is bought out even if it would be unprofitable to enter for continuing operation. The stronger is duopoly competition, the greater is the incentive for buyout, so an incumbent's toughness in produce-market competition may be his own undoing. Evidence from the 1890's shows examples of entry for buyout.
Infant Mortality And Social Work: Legacy Of Success, Terri Combs-Orme
Infant Mortality And Social Work: Legacy Of Success, Terri Combs-Orme
Terri Combs-Orme
Although it is not widely known, social workers have had a substantial part in the impressive reduction in infant mortality achieved in the United States during this century. This article reviews that contribution, noting a decline in interest in infant mortality in the profession beginning in the 1950s. Recent trends are noted that seem to suggest a renewal in the profession's interest in this important subject.
What Does The Neuropsychological Category Test Measure?, Gregory J. Boyle
What Does The Neuropsychological Category Test Measure?, Gregory J. Boyle
Gregory J. Boyle
The Halstead Category Test of brain dysfunction is one of the most sensitive neuropsychological measures currently available. While the instrument has received widespread use, nevertheless, the exact nature of what it measures has been poorly delineated. The present brief report presents the results of separate factor analyses of the Category Test along with other neuropsychological measures from the Halstead-Reitan battery. Despite considerable differences in samples, as well as in the particular neuropsychological measures included in the separate analyses, the Category Test consistently lined-up with general intellectual and memory components, in each instance.
