A high manganese TRIP-TWIP steel was cold rolled to 42% thickness reduction and isochronally annealed between 600 to 900 °C for 300 s. The microstructural evolution during annealing was studied by high resolution electron back-scattering diffraction. After cold rolling, the steel comprised predominant fraction of α′-martensite, a small fraction of blocky ε-martensite and a trace fraction of retained austenite (γ). During annealing, the reversion of ε and α′ martensite to γ was followed by the recrystallisation of γ. While the processes of reversion to and recrystallisation of γ were completed by 700 °C, further annealing between 750 to 900 °C …

There are two categories of applications for self-mixing interference (SMI)-based sensing: (1) estimation of parameters associated with a semiconductor laser (SL) and (2) measurement of the metrological quantities of the external target. To achieve high resolution sensing, each category of applications requires knowledge from the other. This paper proposes an improved method that can simultaneously measure the parameters of an SL and the target movement in arbitrary form. In this paper, we consider a novel optimal design for per-subcarrier antenna selection multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems from an energy-efficiency perspective. The optimal number of antennas, i.e., the number of radio frequency chains, that needs to be built-in on a transmitter to achieve the maximum energy-efficiency is determined. Specifically, an optimization problem for maximizing the average energy-efficiency with respect to the number of antennas is formulated. Enhancing light absorption in thin-film silicon solar cells is important for improving light harvesting efficiency and reducing manufacture cost. In this paper, we introduce a double-sided nanocone hole (NCH) array structure for solar cells by extending a model suggested by Wang et al (2012 Nano Lett. 12 1616). The top-sided NCH structure is mainly used for increasing the antireflection of incident light, and the bottom-sided NCH structure for enhancing light trapping in the near-infrared spectrum. This paper proposes and evaluates an efficient approach for practical reproduction of multizone soundfields for speech sources. The reproduction method, based on a previously proposed approach, utilises weighting parameters to control the soundfield reproduced in each zone whilst minimising the number of loudspeakers required. Proposed here is an interpolation scheme for predicting the weighting parameter values of the multizone soundfield model that otherwise requires significant computational effort. It is shown that initial computation time can be reduced by a factor of 1024 with only 85dB of error in the reproduced soundfield relative to reproduction without interpolated weighting parameters. 3D Gamma index is one of the metrics which have been widely used for clinical routine patient specific quality assurance for IMRT, Tomotherapy and VMAT. Delivery quality assurance (DQA) has been performed for each Tomotherapy patient either using ArcCHECK or MatriXX Evolution in our clinic since 2012. ArcCHECK is a quasi-3D dosimeter whereas MatriXX is a 2D detector. A review of DQA results was performed for all patients in the last three years, a total of 221 DQA plans. These DQA plans came from 215 patients with a variety of treatment sites including head-neck, pelvis, and chest wall. Terahertz spectroscopy of benzoic acid (BA) and two of its derivatives, 2-hydroxybenzoic acid (2OH-BA) and 3-hydroxybenzoic acid (3OH-BA), has been investigated in the spectral region 200 to 500 cm-1 (6.06 to 15.15 THz). The spectra show distinct absorption features. There is agreement between some of the absorption lines observed for these compounds, despite a shift in energy, which is attributed to the differences in the molecular structures. Numerical modelling gave corresponding absorption lines, and this helped in the assignment. Temperature dependence studies revealed that most of the absorption lines are composite lines in this frequency region.

Although wide bore computed tomography (CT) scanners provide increased space for patients, the scan field of view (sFOV) remains considerably smaller than the bore size. Consequently, patient anatomy which spans beyond the sFOV is truncated and the information is lost. The aim of this study was to validate the kilovoltage X-ray energy spectrum on the ID17 beamline at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). The monopile foundation of an offshore wind turbine will unavoidably suffer from long-term cyclic loading during its lifetime, due to impacts from waves and wind. In this paper, a series of tests on a rigid model monopile, subjected to lateral cyclic loading, were carried out in Qiantang River silt to investigate the pile-soil interaction mechanism and accumulated deformation. Response of lateral pile groups is modeled using the more accurate (than any other numerical modeling) p − y curves-based load transfer model. It is essentially underpinned by limiting force per unit length pmpu, modulus of subgrade reaction pmk, and p-multiplier pm (to cater for pile-pile interaction, pm ¼ 1 for single piles). With the model, new closed-form solutions are developed incorporating the cap-rotational stiffness kr. We consider the expansion of co-compact convex hypersurfaces in Minkowski space by functions of their curvature, and prove under quite general conditions that solutions are asymptotic to the self-similar expanding hyperboloid. We analyze the steady-state operation of a generalized reactor model that encompasses a continuous flow bioreactor and an idealized continuous flow membrane reactor as limiting cases. The biochemical reaction kinetics is governed by a Contois growth model subject to noncompetitive substrate inhibition with a variable substrate yield coefficient. The steady-state performance of the reactor is predicted and stability of the steady-state solutions as a function of dimensionless residence time reported. Although it was estimated that 20% of the population in Australia were mobile-only phone users in 2010, the inclusion of mobile numbers into computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) behavioural risk factor surveys did not occur until 2012. Methods: Three papers have been published describing the methods, weighting strategy and the impact in detail of including mobile numbers into the NSW Population Health Survey (NSWPHS). This paper identifies the important components of those papers and summarises them for a broader audience. High-speed steel (HSS) materials are universally used as work rolls for the hot rolling of stainless steels. Their use has increased the output of the rolling mill and decreased roll material consumption and grinding. Sticking defects often occur, however, during the hot rolling process. In this article, extreme pressure (EP) additives were dropped on the HSS samples at high temperature. Magnetorheological shear thickening fluid is a smart material that exhibits both magnetorheological and shear thickening effects. This study focuses on the design and development of a novel magnetorheological shear thickening fluid-based linear damper. First, micron-sized carbonyl iron particles, at a 20% and 80% weight fraction, were immersed among the shear thickening fluid base and thoroughly mixed under a high shear condition to produce the magnetorheological shear thickening fluid. Fluidic McKibben artificial muscles are one of the most popular biomimetic actuators, showing similar static and dynamic performance to skeletal muscles. In particular, their pneumatic version offers high-generated force, high speed and high strain in comparison to other actuators. This paper investigates the development of a small-size, fully enclosed, hydraulic McKibben muscle powered by a low voltage pump. Hydraulic McKibben muscles with an outside diameter of 6 mm and a length ranging from 35 mm to 80 mm were investigated. Stoichiometric magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4, MA)-samarium aluminate (SmAlO3, SA) ceramics have been prepared at 1580°C for 4h from calcined magnesia (MgO), commercial alumina (Al2O3) and samarium oxide (Sm2O3) by a single-stage in-situ reaction sintering (SIRS) method. The phase compositions, microstructures, shrinkage ratio, bulk density and cold compressive strength of the MA-SA ceramics have been investigated. The accuracy of 3DVH (Sun Nuclear Corporation, USA) reported DVH metrics for target volumes and Organs at Risk (OARs) for two Prostate Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) plans was studied. The accuracy of 3DVH estimated DVH metrics in the presence of Multi Leaf Collimator (MLC) systematic errors was also tested with error introduced plans calculated in Pinnacle. The results of the study show that the DVH metrics estimated by 3DVH for error-free plans agree with the TPS calculation within 3%. Water is often used as the medium for characterizing the effects of radiation on living tissue. However, in this study, charged-particle track simulations are employed to quantify the induced physicochemical and potential biological implications when a primary ionising particle with energy 10 keV strikes a medium made up entirely of water or pyrimidine. There are a number of different dwell positions and time optimisation options available in the Oncentra® Brachy (Elekta Brachytherapy Solutions, Veenendaal, The Netherlands) brachytherapy treatment planning system. The purpose of this case study was to compare graphical (GRO) and inverse planning by simulated annealing (IPSA) optimisation techniques for interstitial head and neck (HN) and prostate plans considering dosimetry, modelled radiobiology outcome and planning time. Laccase-catalysed degradation of 30 trace organic contaminants (TrOCs) with diverse chemical structure was investigated in an enzymatic membrane reactor (EMR) equipped with an ultrafiltration membrane. Compared to the results from batch incubation tests, the EMR could facilitate degradation of some phenolic and a number of non-phenolic TrOCs. Laccase, which was completely retained by the membrane, formed a dynamic gel layer on the membrane surface onto which TrOCs were adsorbed. EMR investigations with active and heat-inactivated laccase confirmed that the TrOCs retained by the active laccase gel layer were eventually degraded.
