The Effects Of Self-Esteem, Performance Feedback, And Behavioral Verifiability On Self-Serving Biases, Diana C. Slatopolsky
The Effects Of Self-Esteem, Performance Feedback, And Behavioral Verifiability On Self-Serving Biases, Diana C. Slatopolsky
Master's Theses
The present study examined the psychological processes underlying the self-serving bjas, the tendency to portray one's own qualities as more favorable then those of others. Subjects were asked to predict future success on a behavioral task for themselves and for the average student at their university after receiving performance feedback on the same task. It was proposed that self-enhancing predictions would be moderated by subject's self-esteem (high or low), the verifiability of task performance (high or low), and performance feedback (success or failure). The results revealed that subjects with high self-esteem displayed a self-serving bias regardless of performance verifiability or …
Defining Codependency : A Factor Analytic Approach, Kimberly A. Elliott
Defining Codependency : A Factor Analytic Approach, Kimberly A. Elliott
Master's Theses
This study examined the construct validity of the Friel Inventory, via relationship with the ACL. A factor analysis of the ACL scores collected from 89 introductory psychology students was conducted. These factors were then correlated with the items of the Friel Inventory, which was from the same subjects. The purpose was to determine if codependence, as measured by the Friel Inventory, was a unique construct or a combination of well researched personality traits, as measured by the ACL. The findings supported the former as the correlations among the Friel Inventory items and the ACL factors yielded no relationships above that …

Virginia, The United States And The World : The Effects Of Political, Cultural And Economic Factors On Export Activity, Kimberly Sue Williams
Virginia, The United States And The World : The Effects Of Political, Cultural And Economic Factors On Export Activity, Kimberly Sue Williams
Master's Theses
During the Middle Ages, the "marketplace" may have consisted of one village; products were made and sold locally. From a business person's perspective, there was little need to find out about the preferences of people in another town, let aone on another continent. In the middle of the twentieth century, American made products were sold in America; there was not much incentive to find about the tastes of people in another country. Business in the 1990's is different. Today there is a "global marketplace." Technology has made the planet smaller, facilitating communication and transportation between nations. The world today, in …

The Relationship Between The Mbti And A Values Conflict Resolution, Marti B. George
The Relationship Between The Mbti And A Values Conflict Resolution, Marti B. George
Master's Theses
This study investigated the relationship between Jungian type personality dimensions and an intrapersonal values conflict resolution. Seventy subjects filled out the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which assesses the sixteen Jungian personality types. Subjects returned in approximately two weeks to complete the Values Conflict Resolution Assessment (VCRA) which assesses the degree of their resolution about a particular values conflict. It was hypothesized that the thinking-feeling function of mind would positively correlate with scores on the Ethical-Emotional subscale and negatively correlate with scores on the Rational-Behavioral subscale of the VCRA. The result did not confirm our hypotheses. Reliablilty and a principal components …
The Effect Of Family Environment And Medication On Peer Relations Of Adhd Children, Kay D. Congdon
The Effect Of Family Environment And Medication On Peer Relations Of Adhd Children, Kay D. Congdon
Master's Theses
This study examined the influence of family functioning and medication on the peer relations of ADHD children. Experiment 1 focused on parental functioning -- patterns of parenting, stress and conflict, and parental psychopathology -- and how these variables affected ADHD children's peer relations. Experiment 2 examined the effects of Ritalin on peer relations in ADHD children. In Experiment 1, pervasive ADHD (PADHD) and situational ADHD (SADHD) children were assessed for peer relations, family management, family stress, and parental psychopathology. Significant differences were found between mothers of PADHD children and mothers of SADHD children in the Stress Analysis System (Accountability and …
Resource Allocation As A Function Of Leadership Titles And Myers-Briggs Typology, David C. Leonard
Resource Allocation As A Function Of Leadership Titles And Myers-Briggs Typology, David C. Leonard
Master's Theses
In recent years, research efforts have attempted to identify variables that may moderate leaders' decision making styles. Variables that have been identified include divisibility of the resource, social scripts, and type of resource being divided. This study attempted to replicate these findings and examine the influence of personality variables as defined by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Scale. The influence of the thinking-judging and feeling-judging typologies are examined in light of a resource allocation task, as well as their relationship to Blake and Mouton's Managerial Grid of leadership styles. Results were generally nonsignificant. However, the thinking and feeling typologies were correlated …
Political Influences On The National Park Service : Past And Present, Bonnie Sachatello
Political Influences On The National Park Service : Past And Present, Bonnie Sachatello
Master's Theses
Since the beginning of the Reagan Administration in 1981, there has been a dramatic change in policies affecting the national parks and the National Park service. The Department of the Interior's goals combined with the economic strategies of this Administration have brought about new park policies that have departed sharply from those of the last two decades. This thesis is designed to distill some of the changes evidenced in park policy and the Park service under the Reagan Administration.
Predicting Attrition For Women At West Point : Is It A Function Of Adopting The Male Dominant Culture?, Jane P. Mckeon
Predicting Attrition For Women At West Point : Is It A Function Of Adopting The Male Dominant Culture?, Jane P. Mckeon
Master's Theses
This study examined 40 selected items from the Student Information Form that had been identified as representing cultural differences between men and women at the United States Military Academy. A principal components analysis of the data collected from 3005 male and 314 female cadets yielded 7 factors for men and 6 factors for women suitable for interpretation. As hypothesized, men and women were found to have similar cultual values, attitudes and experiences based on their similar factor structures. Next, item responses from 58 women attriters were compared to responses from the nonattriters. Using all the factors identified for the women, …
