Online Disclosure Boundaries And Marital Quality Among Facebook Users, Dominique M. Jones-King
Online Disclosure Boundaries And Marital Quality Among Facebook Users, Dominique M. Jones-King
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractCurrent marital and social media research has revealed that married couples are often unsuspecting of the negative marital ramifications associated with impulsive disclosure to Facebook friends, poor disclosure boundaries, and inappropriate online emotional affairs until the affair has been revealed and the emotional detachment has already incited a legal divorce. The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation, if any, between online intimate disclosure with another sex, online disclosure boundaries, and marital quality among Facebook users. The theoretical framework for this study was the social penetration theory. A quantitative, nonexperimental correlational research design was used. A total of …

Russian Federalism In 2012-2021, Vladimir Kalajdzhyan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Researchers have disagreed on whether the Russian federal system of government was one of the many models of federalism, its own unique form of it, or not federalism. Therefore, the overarching research question investigated was how classic western theoretical frameworks on federalism applied to the contemporary Russian federal system, how the Russian system evolved in its own unique way, and how it related to asymmetrical federalist, quasi-federalist, and non-federalist systems. The classic theoretical foundation framework on federalism was applied. The purpose of this research was to study current trends within the Russian federal government system and investigate paths for Russia’s …
The Relationship Between Sexual Abuse And Juvenile Sexual Offending When Moderated By Family Dysfunction, Dahlia Kaplan-Regan
The Relationship Between Sexual Abuse And Juvenile Sexual Offending When Moderated By Family Dysfunction, Dahlia Kaplan-Regan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Sexual abuse and victimization can have long-term negative ramifications on victims, their families, and the community. Juveniles account for a notable portion of persons who engage in sexual offending behaviors; therefore, knowing more about the pathway that leads to juvenile sexual offending is beneficial in preventing sexual abuse and promoting community safety. Social cognitive theory was applied to the pathway of juvenile sexual offending behaviors to develop insight into how this behavior may be learned and to inform the selection of variables for this research. The key research question explored how traits of family dysfunction moderated the relationship between childhood …

Social Contact theory employers who have more social interaction with individuals with ASD have more social knowledge about ASD.. The population for …
High School Completion Categories And Post-High School Plans As Predictors Of Ged Certificate Attainment In A Virginia Alternative Education Program, Joseph Knight
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractA state-wide Individual Student Alternative Education Plan (ISAEP) seeks to assist high school (HS) students at risk of not graduating in completing HS credentials. The problem was that there was no formal state-wide process for monitoring the program to understand its impact. The purpose of this quantitative exploratory study was to determine whether the graduation variables that were published by the state could be used to predict ISAEP GED attainment. The Theory of Action proposed by McPartland and Jordan guided two main research questions to see if ISAEP GED attainment could be predicted by categories of HS completion, and if …

Understanding Police Decision-Making With Firearms: From Training To Real-Life Deployment, Alex S. Kondos
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Modern efforts involving police reform have created a need for police administrators and policymakers to address various elements of policing. Administrative and punitive policy reforms have had little effect on decreasing police shootings. The purpose of this phenomenological study is to understand the experiences of officers who have been involved in deadly force encounters in order to identify where their past training methods led to success or failures in real-life situations. The theoretical framework for this study was Janis and Mann’s conflict model of decision-making. This study involved answering the question: From the perspectives of police officers involved in shootings, …

Mental Health-Medical Crisis Team Impact On First Responder Outcomes On Persons With Mental Illness, Mary Josephine Lakey
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Persons with mental illness (PMIs) are 16 times more likely to experience harm when interacting with police than individuals without mental illness. This inequity has recently become prominent in American discourse due to the ubiquitous use of cell phones and social media, where videos of incidents between police and PMIs circulate. In this generic qualitative research, members of a collaborative mental health and emergency medical service professionals (EMSPs) team in an urban area were interviewed to assess the team members’ perceptions of the impact of the program on frequency of adverse outcomes during interactions with PMIs. The theoretical framework for …

Exploring Systemic Reform In Criminal Justice For Afro-Americans Based On Critical Policy Ethnography, Cozetta Butts Lamore
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The persistent disproportionate rates of Afro-American involvement within the criminal justice system at all levels have resulted in historic levels of unexplained mass incarceration. Despite federal guidance, the pandemic of unexplained mass incarceration persists. Some studies have noted that the lack of academic attention may be one of the primary reasons for the lack of change. Others have noted the need for centering and lifting the perspective of those who have been most impacted by these racial disparities. The intent of this study was to offer a qualitative close-up examination and analysis from the perspective of impacted populations. The ecological …

Human Services Professionals’ Perceptions Of Quality Care With Older Adults Experiencing Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, Frances Ludmer
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
One-third of patients with chronic consequences from traumatic brain injury (TBI) are reported to receive inadequate care for their ongoing functional, cognitive decline, and advanced pathophysiology. The quality-of-life (QOL) for older adults living with TBI may be reduced due to unequal access to resources and a lack of coordinated, holistic treatment plans. Recently, authors suggested that QOL for older adults with TBI depends on feelings of autonomy and cognitive functioning and requires holistic approaches to care. This generic qualitative study explored the experiences and perceptions of human service professionals (HSPs) working in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) related to holistic, …
Resilience As A Mediating Factor In Depression And Posttraumatic Stress For Hongkongers Experiencing Political Oppression, Sairong Lu
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractPolitical oppression has been associated with mental health issues in refugee populations. The goal of this research was to measure the correlational relationship between political oppression, levels of depressive and trauma symptoms, and resilience as a mediating variable among Hongkongers. Three models of resilience formed the theoretical framework for this study. The mediating model was applied to determine if resilience mediated the relationship between political oppression and levels of depressive and trauma symptoms. The Beck Depression Inventory II, the PTSD-Checklist-Civilian, the Oppression Questionnaire, and the Resilience Scale for Adults were used to measure levels of depressive and trauma symptoms, the …

How Do Social Relationships With Parole Officers Impact Parolee Experiences While On Community Supervision?, April Lynn Maeschen
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The relationship between parolees and parole officers can be complicated, as parole officers often have dual functions. Parole officers try to encourage positive behavior while still enforcing rules and regulations on parolees in an attempt to help a parolee make pro-social decisions. Many challenges can arise during community supervision that can make it difficult for a parole officer to help guide the parolee. In this study, parole officers’ perceptions were examined regarding supportive communication and how this can affect parolees’ behavior during community supervision. Minimal research exists about parole officers and how effective communication styles can impact parolees. Two theoretical …

Veteran Defendant Reasons For Opting Out Of Veterans' Treatment Court, Delilah A. Moore
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Veterans’ treatment courts (VTCs) are problem-solving courts created to address the specific treatment needs of veteran defendants. Consistent with general strain theory, the stressors of military service can lead to negative emotions that have been linked to criminality. Despite the favorable results of studies on the efficacy of VTCs to reduce recidivism, participation is voluntary, and not all eligible candidates elect to participate. The purpose of this study was to discover why defendants choose to opt out. Understanding the barriers to participation is critical for VTC actors charged with providing treatment to as many veterans as possible. A qualitative study …

Job Satisfaction, Personality Traits, Resilience, And Education Level Among Rural Police Officers, Chellie Newman-Noon
Job Satisfaction, Personality Traits, Resilience, And Education Level Among Rural Police Officers, Chellie Newman-Noon
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Police agencies struggle with police officer attrition, resulting in agencies needing to hire new officers. This process is costly and results in unwise decision-making by police officers due to inexperience, excessive use of force, and ultimate distrust of police by civilians. Job satisfaction can diminish attrition and excessive use of force and increases both prudent decision-making and civilian trust. The characteristics of personality traits, education level, and resilience contributing to job satisfaction were addressed in the current study using a nonexperimental predictive correlational design. An online assessment of the Big Five traits, resilience, and job satisfaction, in addition to a …

The Examination Of Small Chicago Nonprofit Organizations In The Voluntary Implementation Of The Sarbanes-Oxley Legislation, Patricia A. Owens
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractNonprofit organizations (NPOs) do not have a mandated requirement for implementing the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) of 2002; however, small Chicago NPOs had voluntarily implemented SOX provisions. The passage of SOX impacted the manner in which NPOs govern, provide disclosures, and audit their records. It was not known what the experiences, including facilitators or barriers, had been in that effort. The accountability mechanism theory by Ostrower and Stone provided the framework for this study. The key research questions focused on what major SOX provisions were most useful to implement and the experiences faced in the voluntary implementation of the SOX provisions. …
