The Relationship Between The Mbti And A Values Conflict Resolution, Marti B. George Dec 1990

The Relationship Between The Mbti And A Values Conflict Resolution, Marti B. George

Master's Theses

This study investigated the relationship between Jungian type personality dimensions and an intrapersonal values conflict resolution. Seventy subjects filled out the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which assesses the sixteen Jungian personality types. Subjects returned in approximately two weeks to complete the Values Conflict Resolution Assessment (VCRA) which assesses the degree of their resolution about a particular values conflict. It was hypothesized that the thinking-feeling function of mind would positively correlate with scores on the Ethical-Emotional subscale and negatively correlate with scores on the Rational-Behavioral subscale of the VCRA. The result did not confirm our hypotheses. Reliablilty and a principal components …

A Test Of A Mastery Learning Approach For Teaching Basic Paragraph Writing Skills To Spanish Language Background Students, Sara Soledad Garcia Dec 1990

A Test Of A Mastery Learning Approach For Teaching Basic Paragraph Writing Skills To Spanish Language Background Students, Sara Soledad Garcia

Teacher Education

This dissertation tested whether learning could be improved for students of Spanish language background through a Mastery Learning (ML) approach. It was hypothesized that higher levels of achievement and more positive affect could occur in an ML classroom.

Phase I of the study compared two instructional conditions: Mastery Learning and conventional. Because of implementation problems in Phase I, Phase II used a Mastery Learning condition only. In each phase, Pre and Posttests, Formative and Summative Tests, and Affect Questionnaires were gathered from a total of 84 students. The Pre and Posttests were modifications of four Subscales testing General Impressions, General …

Perspectives On Medium To Long-Term Outlook For The Nigerian Economy, Abdulkadir Ahmed Dec 1990

Perspectives On Medium To Long-Term Outlook For The Nigerian Economy, Abdulkadir Ahmed

Economic and Financial Review

The Nigerian economy was in a deplorable state prior to the introduction of various policy and structural reforms in 1986. During the period of oil boom (1973-80), the production and consumption patterns in the country became import- dependent. With the collapse of oil prices in mid-1981, a foreign exchange crisis emerged. Foreign exchange earnings declined from US $25.9 billion in 1980 to $7.2 billion in 1986 with adverse consequences for the economy. The balance of payments came under severe pressures, swinging from a surplus ofN2.4 billion in 1980 to a large deficit of N3.0 billion in 1982. External debt increased …

Northeast Folklore Society Newsletter

Readers of this Newsletter will be saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Helen Creighton, Canada's foremost collector of folksongs, on Tuesday, December 12, [1989], in Halifax. She was 90 years old. There is little I can add to Stephen Pedersen's fine article from the Halifax Chronicle-Herald (12/16/89) reprinted below beyond a couple of recollections of my own.

A Redefinition Of The Problem Of Homelessness Among Persons With A Chronic Mental Illness, Donald M. Linhorst Dec 1990

A Redefinition Of The Problem Of Homelessness Among Persons With A Chronic Mental Illness, Donald M. Linhorst

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

Two definitions of the problem of homelessness among persons with a chronic mental illness are examined, along with their implied solutions and ramifications for policy. Homelessness among this group is first viewed as the result of deinstitutionalization, and secondly, as the outcome of a critical shortage of low-income housing. Solutions stemming from the deinstitutionalization definition of homelessness, reinstitutionalization or improvement in the mental health system, are seen as inadequate to deal with the problem of homelessness among the mentally ill. Instead, state departments of mental health are called upon to provide a leadership role in the development of affordable housing.

Default And Bankruptcy In A Multistage Exchange Economy, Martin Shubik Dec 1990

Default And Bankruptcy In A Multistage Exchange Economy, Martin Shubik

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

Either lending must be secured or otherwise some form of default or bankruptcy rules are required to provide a disincentive against strategic default. When many time periods are involved, the mere specification of a penalty which is sufficient for one period of trade, is not sufficient. The complete specification of even a two period game requires that both the treatment of creditors (including seniority conditions) and the nature of the rehabilitation of the debtor must be specified. This paper explores these problems.

A Strategic Market Game With A Mutual Bank With Fractional Reserves And Redemption In Gold (A Continuum Of Traders), Martin Shubik, Dimitrios P. Tsomocos Dec 1990

A Strategic Market Game With A Mutual Bank With Fractional Reserves And Redemption In Gold (A Continuum Of Traders), Martin Shubik, Dimitrios P. Tsomocos

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

We utilize the strategic market game approach to analyze the role and function of a mutual bank with variable fractional reserves, redemption in gold and endogenous interest rate formation. We specify the conditions of enough money and its distribution. Using the continuum of traders model, we show existence and optimality for the case of no bankruptcy as well as for the case in which there exists the potentiality of bankruptcy. Finally, we analyze the relationship of the gearing ratio and the bankruptcy penalty with respect to the resulting equilibrium allocations.

Dimensions Of Ethnic Assimilation: An Empirical Appraisal Of Gordon's Typology, J. Allen Williams Jr., Suzanne T. Ortega Dec 1990

Dimensions Of Ethnic Assimilation: An Empirical Appraisal Of Gordon's Typology, J. Allen Williams Jr., Suzanne T. Ortega

Department of Sociology: Faculty Publications

Researchers often begin by acknowledging that ethnic assimilation is multidimensional, but rarely examine more than one type of assimilation. As a result, studies have used quite disparate indicators of assimilation and have yielded contradictory results. The authors of this study empirically test Milton Gordon’s classic statement on the seven types of assimilation. Results of factor analysis indicate that Gordon’s seven dimensions can be reduced to three- structural, cultural, and receptional.

Exchange Rules In The Mediation Of Social Welfare Work, Paula L. Dressel, Michelle Waters, Mike Sweat, Obie Clayton Dec 1990

Exchange Rules In The Mediation Of Social Welfare Work, Paula L. Dressel, Michelle Waters, Mike Sweat, Obie Clayton

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

This article demonstrates the utility of the concept of exchange rules for understanding welfare worker agency in the mediation of workplace ideologies and behaviors. The exchange rules of complementarity, reciprocity, and beneficence are applied to the issues of service worker burnout, worker-client interactions, and labor issues to illustrate their conceptual and practical power. This analysis from an interactionist perspective complements the macro-level observations of the fundamental contradictions within the social welfare enterprise. It also suggests avenues for the mediation and alleviation of certain workplace dilemmas.
