Sex-Role Stereotypes: How Far Have We Come?, Erica D. Monte
Sex-Role Stereotypes: How Far Have We Come?, Erica D. Monte
Dissertations and Theses
Parents are the first source of a child's learning of her or his gender. In fact, sex-role stereotyping of infants by parents may occur within the first 24 hours of birth. This study examined the nature of parental stereotyping on the basis of their infant's sex by obtaining parents' descriptions of their newborn and toy and clothing preferences for their newborn. In 1974, Rubin found that parents responded stereotypically to their infants on the basis of sex. Following Rubin's interview approach, 50 parent pairs from two urban hospitals were asked to participate in a parent-infant study and were subsequently interviewed …

This research isolated the memory impairment of retrieval deficit, and examined the efficacy of cues and mnemonics in remediating the impairment. Thirty-three male and female TBI survivors, 18 to 71 years old, were pre-tested for attention (COPY), short-term memory (SD), long-term memory (LD) and recognition memory (RS) employing the Rey Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (CFT), and Subtest. Sixteen subjects demonstrating a retrieval deficit were administered the post-test, with even random assignment into four treatment conditions: a control group (CONTROL), a group administered …

Orientations Toward Leadership--Youth Views On The Roles, Responsibilities, Characteristics, And Behaviors Of Service-Oriented Leadership, David Mcgill
Theses and Graduate Projects
Approximately 540 statements about youth leadership were collected through the use of focus group interviews. These statements were tape recorded and transcribed. From the transcriptions, 71 statements were selected on the basis of their relevance to the research questions. From these statements, 49 Leadership Expectations concerning service-oriented leadership were identified. These 49 Leadership Expectations were then categorized into 11 Role, 10 Responsibility, 15 Characteristic, and 13 Behavior Expectations. The Minnesota Americorps-Youth Works Evaluation Plan, Robert D. Shumer, Jane Maland
The Minnesota Americorps-Youth Works Evaluation Plan, Robert D. Shumer, Jane Maland
Evaluation/Reflection
Passage of the Youth Works bill is important legislation. It brings Minnesota to the forefront of the national service movement and sets standards for other states to follow. Because Youth Works leads the nation in involving young people in service to their community ad their state, the evaluation design also reflects the innovative spirit of the legislation. The state evaluation design incorporates the best of other evaluative studies of service programs and promotes new processes which reflect the intent of the legislation.
The state evaluation of the AmeriCorps-Youth Works Programs promotes programmatic self-evaluation, while it links together state and federal …
