Worry, Anxiety And Their Relation In A Clinical Sample Of Children With Anxiety Disorders, Steven Kent Cumbo
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Worry is the hallmark feature of the anxiety disorders in children and adolescents. Little information, however, is available on childhood worry, and when worry may lead to functional impairment. The number, frequency, intensity, and areas of worry were examined in a clinic sample of children with anxiety disorders (n=59) using a structured data gathering procedure. Findings revealed that number of worry increased with age; severity decreased with age. An interaction between age and gender was also found. No differences were found for frequency or intensity. The most common areas of worry were School, Health, and Personal Harm. A link between …
Social Institutions And Identity Formation : The Interface Between Society And The Individual, Ervin Briones
Social Institutions And Identity Formation : The Interface Between Society And The Individual, Ervin Briones
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis describes a study conducted to develop and refine a measure, the Social Institutions Rating (SIR), a group administered, self-report measure of institutional attributes and characteristics. This thesis reports data on the psychometric properties of the SIR. Exploratory analyses are reported investigating the empirical effects of social institutions on identity formation within two ethnic/cultural groups, Euroamericans and Hispanics. Based on previous studies with ethnic minorities, a directional hypothesis was tested. The hypothesis that subjects in the Euroamerican sample have a higher identity status than the Hispanic sample for three identity domains (personal, interpersonal, and world view) was not confirmed. …

The Anchor, Volume 108.19: April 5, 1995, Hope College
The Anchor: 1995
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

The Baseball Strike, Richard C. Crepeau
The Baseball Strike, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
After nearly eight months, some 232 days after it began, the strike by major league baseball players ended not at the bargaining table, but as the result of a judicial ruling by the youngest judge in the Southern District of New York. At age forty Judge Sonia Sotomayor is the first Puerto Rican appointed to the bench in this predominantly Puerto Rican district. A Yale Law Graduate, who grew up in South Bronx just a few blocks from Yankee Stadium, she was appointed to the bench by former Yale first-baseman George Bush on the recommendation of Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, …

Investigating The Private Investigator, Michelle Garland
Investigating The Private Investigator, Michelle Garland
Honors Theses
A fast growing field of service is private investigations. There are an estimated 65,000 private detectives at work in the United States. This figure is up almost 65% from the estimated 40,000 in 1986. Investigation is a process of collecting data and applying logic which requires deductive and inductive reasoning. The purpose of this project is to examine these techniques, as applied to private investigation. This project will identify the various methods of investigation employed and focus on some ethical concerns of the profession. The structure is as follows: individuals who hire services will be identified, the ways in which …
