Undergraduate Student Internships In Natural Resources At Virginia 4-H Educational Centers, Jeff Kirwan, Barry Fox, Barry A. Garst

Virginia has six 4-H educational centers that provide residential camping experiences for over 22,000 youth per year, the second largest 4-H camping program in the United States. These children may have many learning opportunities in the areas of natural resources and outdoor living skills. Beginning in 1995, the Chesapeake Bay Program in cooperation with the Virginia Division of Soil and Water Conservation provided funds for water quality instructors at each of the 4-H Centers. In 1998, the Virginia Forestry Educational Foundation began supporting a similar internship program for undergraduate students to serve as forestry instructors. This is a comparative study of Korean students' request forms and aspects of their culture that has not been recognized in the field of speech. This offers an explanation for miscommunication between Korean speakers of English and native speakers of English. Lastly, this study provides empirical information about how Korean students use request forms and how Koreans' politeness strategies differ from Americans'.

This project was an assessment of elderly health care needs and access. Three urban San Bernardino communities in zip codes 92405, 92410, and 92411 were targeted. The assessment was structured according to King's theoretical construction of community as a multilevel interaction between personal, interpersonal and social systems. The components of the assessment included digital photographs, web-based internet assessments, key informant interviews, and community business visits.

This study examined the roles of type of voice and locus of control on satisfaction with type of voice and on feelings of procedural justice. Two forms of voice were assessed, instrumental and non-instrumental, as well as two forms of locus of control, external and internal. Participants read a scenario that randomly placed them into type of voice. Participants responded to surveys to determine the persons' locus of control, satisfaction with voice and feelings of procedural justice.
