Implications Of Adolescent Development Upon Transracial Adoptees, Anthony L. Burrow Nov 2002

Implications Of Adolescent Development Upon Transracial Adoptees, Anthony L. Burrow

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The aim of the present investigation was to examine the implications of adoption status upon the adjustment of adolescents, with a focus on transracial adoptees. Based upon secondary analyses of a nationally collected data set, three levels of analyses were undertaken to investigate group differences between: (a) adoptees and non-adoptees, (b) transracially adopted adolescents and same-race adopted adolescents and, (c) specific racial groupings of adopted children and their parents across a broad range of adjustment measures. The results indicated some evidence supporting increased maladjustment of adoptees compared to their non-adopted counterparts. Yet, when comparing groups of adopted adolescents, the results …

Tb184: Least-Cost Options For The Collection, Treatment, And Disposal Of Biomedical Waste In Maine., Andrew C. Files, Thomas G. Allen, George K. Criner

Technical Bulletins

This study examines the cost effectiveness of using current treatment technologies to sanitize, disinfect, shred, and dispose of biomedical waste within the state in relation to the costs of current disposal practices in Maine. The study employs a linear programming model to determine the combination of treatment facilities, transportation options, and disposal sites to treat all waste produced in Maine at the lowest statewide cost. A least-cost solution is developed for three different scenarios. The first two scenarios assume that all treated waste must be shredded in accordance with current regulatory requirements. The third scenario assumes that regulations are changed …

Jmasm4: Critical Values For Four Nonparametric And/Or Distribution-Free Tests Of Location For Two Independent Samples, Bruce R. Fay

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Researchers engaged in computer-intensive studies may need exact critical values, especially for sample sizes and alpha levels not normally found in published tables, as well as the ability to control ‘best-fit’ criteria. They may also benefit from the ability to directly generate these values rather than having to create lookup tables. Fortran 90 programs generate ‘best-conservative’ (bc) and ‘best-fit’ (bf) critical values with associated probabilities for the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test of general differences (bc), Rosenbaum’s test of location (bc), Tukey’s quick test (bc and bf)) and the Wilcoxon rank-sum test (bc).

Oldies But Goodies, Carol Tenopir

School of Information Sciences -- Faculty Publications and Other Works

COMMON WISDOM says that currency is what is valued in online databases. With the exception of genealogists and historians, it is assumed that readers don't want old materials. From the publisher's side, it just isn't cost effective to convert older bibliographic or full-text articles to digital form. For those who want older material, print--at least until recently--was thought to be the medium of choice.

This common wisdom is being proved not so wise, as readers are accessing both new and older information when it is available online, and publishers are rushing to digitize long runs of magazine and journal articles …

Mutual Aid And Emergency Assistance: 2002 Update, Ray Crouch, Todd Moore Nov 2002

Mutual Aid And Emergency Assistance: 2002 Update, Ray Crouch, Todd Moore

MTAS Publications: Full Publications

The state legislature and constitution create and govern municipalities and grant them their powers and authority. As a general rnle, the powers and authority are limited to actions municipalities can take within their corporate limits. In Tennessee, however, the General Assembly has recognized that under certain circumstances, state residents benefit from local governments being able to provide assistance and services beyond their boundaries. Speci lically, Tennessee cities have the authority to enter into agreements with other local governments to cooperate and provide assistance in the provision of police, fire, public works and other services. These agreements may determine whether the …
