A Simulation-Based Welfare Loss Calculation For Labor Taxes With Piecewise-Linear Budgets, Don Fullerton, Li Gan
A Simulation-Based Welfare Loss Calculation For Labor Taxes With Piecewise-Linear Budgets, Don Fullerton, Li Gan
Don Fullerton
Graduated income tax rates and transfer programs create piecewise-linear budget constraints that consist of budget segments and kink points. With any change in these tax rules, each individual may switch between a kink point and a budget segment, between two budget segments, or between two kink points. With errors in the estimated labor supply equation, the new choice is uncertain, and so the welfare effects of a tax change are uncertain. We propose a simulation-based method to compute expected welfare effects that is easy to implement and that fully accounts for uncertainties about choices around kink points. Our method also …

In a non-marked lane, deminer [Victim No.1] tried to identify the source of a metal-detector signal by using a prodder and an excavation tool. He possibly used the prodder and the excavation tool simultaneously to achieve higher productivity. The star of the PROM-1 was above the ground surface. Therefore it is not likely that the mine was activated with a prodder. It is most likely that it was activated with inappropriate excavation tool. The examination of the area cleared in the days before the accident leads to the conclusion that vertical excavation had been performed, which is characteristic for non-demining …

Gandhi And The Ego Ideal, Michele Gibney
Gandhi And The Ego Ideal, Michele Gibney
Michele Gibney
If the individual self is not equal to the subject self and “agency”, as Wimal Dissanayake defines it, is seen as the link between the two: can the agency of Gandhi be described as utilizing the Freudian mirror stage development to overthrow subjectivity? I believe that, in fact, Gandhi’s reaction to British imperialism projects a reflected ego ideal which is used to combat the subjectivity of colonization and create an Indian “self”.

Is it possible to say something positive about Internet filtering in libraries and not have everyone, including your mother, call you a wild-eyed, hidebound, neo-Nazi bashi-bazouk? No, of course not, but I'm going to try to anyway.

The Anchor, Volume 118.03: September 15, 2004, Hope College
The Anchor: 2004
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
