Where's The Beef? Tests And Measurements Resources That Help You Find The Actual Test, Brian M. Olesko

University Libraries' Staff Publications

Background

When library users need to find a complete copy of an unpublished psychological test they often turn to the reference staff for help. The best places to look for unpublished tests are in journal articles and in test compilation reference books but searching for tests in these sources can be difficult.

Research databases can help you determine which journal articles made use of a particular test but most databases don't indicate if a copy of the actual test is included in the article.

Searching for tests in reference books is even more difficult. Library catalog records rarely list the …

Analysis Of Layered Social Networks, Jonathan T. Hamill Oct 2006

Analysis Of Layered Social Networks, Jonathan T. Hamill

Theses and Dissertations

Prevention of near-term terrorist attacks requires an understanding of current terrorist organizations to include their composition, the actors involved, and how they operate to achieve their objectives. To aid this understanding, operations research, sociological, and behavioral theory relevant to the study of social networks are applied, thereby providing theoretical foundations for new methodologies to analyze non-cooperative organizations, defined as those trying to hide their structure or are unwilling to provide information regarding their operations. Techniques applying information regarding multiple dimensions of interpersonal relationships, inferring from them the strengths of interpersonal ties, are explored. A layered network construct is offered that …

Rent Concessions And Illegal Contract Penalties In Texas, James P. George Oct 2006

Rent Concessions And Illegal Contract Penalties In Texas, James P. George

ExpressO

This article discusses penalty damages in residential leases in Texas. The sales pitch is a rent concession which is later reimposed if the buyer breaches. In contracts where the reimposed penalty reimburses the seller well beyond the consideration anticipated in the normal performance of the agreement, the reimposed discount is an illegal penalty. These contracts are pervasive but for the most part go unchalllenged.

Computing The Divisional Cost Of Capital Using The Pure Play Method, H. W. Collier, T. Grai, S. Haslitt, C. B. Mcgowan

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

The Cost of Capital Model is used to calculate the net present value of projects within a multi-unit corporation but may provide incorrect answers for projects that have a level of risk that differs from the overall average risk level for the corporation. We demonstrate the use of the Pure Play Method for calculating the required rate of return for a division of a corporation that has risk characteristics that differ from the risk characteristics of the overall corporation. We apply this methodology to the Integrated Electronic Systems Segment of the Motorola Corporation. We find that the IESS division cost …

Synthesis Of Some Cyclic Indolic Peptoids As Potential Antibacterials, Vicki S. Au, John B. Bremner, Jonathan Coates, Paul A. Keller, Stephen G. Pyne

Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)

The synthesis of cyclic peptoids containing an indole hydrophobic scaffold has been realised through the ring-closing metathesis of diallylated precursors. The precursors and their cyclic counterparts possessed poor antibacterial activity in contrast to previously reported cyclic peptoids containing hydrophobic scaffolds.

The Enduring Mythological Role Of The Anonymous Source Deep Throat, Shana Lyris Hamilton Oct 2006

The Enduring Mythological Role Of The Anonymous Source Deep Throat, Shana Lyris Hamilton

Theses and Dissertations

Deep Throat is one of the most famous anonymous newspaper sources in American journalism. He is known for helping Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein uncover the Watergate scandal that led to President Richard Nixon's impeachment and resignation in 1974. Deep Throat's identity was a source of curiosity until he was revealed in 2005 as the former number two figure at the FBI, William Mark Felt. This thesis will show that, despite Felt's notoriety, Deep Throat was not an indispensable part of Woodward and Bernstein's Watergate coverage, speaking with Woodward 16 times about Watergate during the reporters' coverage. …

This study examines the system architecture and capabilities of commercially available OpenURL link resolvers. These emerging technological tools are designed to increase use of library collections by automating the process of locating and accessing library holdings. Data for the study, largely experiential feedback received from libraries employing OpenURL link resolvers, was gathered through a series of evaluative activities. These included a preliminary literature review, Web survey, follow-up e-mail survey, and on-site visits to libraries. Results were analyzed within the context of the University of Connecticut Libraries’ resources and needs. Analysis revealed wide variation in library experiences with and perception of …
