Demarcating The Right To Gather News: A Sequential Interpretation Of The First Amendment, Erik Ugland
Demarcating The Right To Gather News: A Sequential Interpretation Of The First Amendment, Erik Ugland
College of Communication Faculty Research and Publications
The recent spate of cases in which reporters have been subpoenaed, fined, jailed, or otherwise disciplined has laid bare the divisions among the courts over the existence and scope of the “reporter’s privilege.” The cases have also exposed the doctrinal, historical, and theoretical infirmities of the broader law of newsgathering, which encompasses not only source relationships, but also rights of access to places and records, protections against civil and criminal liability for torts and crimes committed in the pursuit of news, and protections against government searches of newsrooms and phone records, among other things. Resolving these conflicts has grown more …

Phased Retirement And The Age Discrimination In Employment Act: Legal Standards And Risks, Workplace Flexibility 2010, Georgetown University Law Center
Memos and Fact Sheets
Under current law there is no definition of “phased retirement.” However, employers currently devise a variety of ways in which to implement such programs -- by either allowing critical employees to reduce their schedules rather than retire or by allowing retired employees to return as independent contractors. In either case, employers who implement either formal or informal phased retirement programs must make sure that such programs comply with the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA).

The Roles Of Coaches And Teachers : Fostering A Climate For Motivation In An Age Of Accountability, Jocelyn Hays
The Roles Of Coaches And Teachers : Fostering A Climate For Motivation In An Age Of Accountability, Jocelyn Hays
Graduate Research Papers
This paper examines the difference between how a coach motivates an athlete or fosters a climate for motivation versus how a teacher motivates a student or fosters a climate for motivation. One way to examine how coaches and teachers motivate their athletes and students is to examine the roles of coaches and teachers as motivators. Examining the roles of coaches and teachers as motivators and the subsequent discussion of how the roles of coaches as motivators could inform the roles of teachers as motivators seeks to satisfy society's call for teacher accountability.

Computer mediated communication technologies such as instant messaging, blogs, wikis, and podcasts provide new avenues to foster communication and collaboration in the academic library environment. These tools provide innovative ways to reach new technologically savvy academic library users, highlight library services, and allow the library to remain the intellectual center of the academic community. Additionally, these tools also provide mechanisms for internal staff development and collaboration, saving time and building a more technologically expert staff. This chapter highlights various ways that the academic library community can incorporate CMC technologies by providing current examples of instant messaging, blog, wiki, and podcast …

Effective stewardship of caves and karst areas requires access to and efficient analysis of a diverse range of information. Vital data are scattered throughout specialty mainstream journals, which even for a single project could include fields such as ecology, hydrogeology, contaminant transport, toxicology, engineering geology and law. Additionally, volumes of crucial information often lie in difficult-to-find gray literature. Management recommendations and decisions should be based on assessments of state-of-the-art information, but fall short when important patterns and relationships are overlooked.
The Karst Information Portal (KIP) offers a solution to these problems. Conceived in 2005 and launched in June 2007, KIP …
