It is the conclusion of investigation team that the carelessness of involved ATL, deviation from AMAS and [Demining group]’s SOP and use of dark visor during disarming operation on the fuse are the contributing factors to this accident. Additionally the rule of supervision is vital in preventing such accidents.

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Developmental Aspects Of Diabetes Knowledge, Kari Morgan
Developmental Aspects Of Diabetes Knowledge, Kari Morgan
Theses and Dissertations
The Test of Diabetes Knowledge (TDK) was studied to determine its appropriateness for children. Early onset diabetes was examined for residual effects on poorer adolescent understanding of diabetes and problem solving that could affect self-care behaviors. Participant groups were created as children (<12) and adolescents (≥12). A second division created a group of adolescents with early onset disease (EOD < 12 years) and with late onset disease (LOD >12 years). Participants were predominantly Caucasian and from middle class families. 51% were boys with an average age of 12.95 years, disease duration of 4.35 years and onset age of 8.58 years. Children scored significantly lower and responded “I don’t know” significantly more often for all levels of knowledge when compared to adolescents. EOD and LOD group …12)>

Convention Speeches: 'The World As It Should Be', Craig J. Westover
Convention Speeches: 'The World As It Should Be', Craig J. Westover
Craig J Westover
Two emotional speeches at the Democratic National Convention Monday Night – by an ailing Sen. Edward Kennedy and vivacious Michelle Obama – were often interrupted by applause. Camera cuts vividly pictured delegates wiping away or smiling through tears, visibly moved by the speakers. Even watching on television, one was cognizant of the emotions swirling inside the Pepsi Center.
We do not expect (although perhaps we should raise our expectations a little) that politicians today match the eloquence of a Lincoln. And one could argue that with their speeches Sen. Kennedy and Ms. Obama accomplished what Lincoln did not – reaching …

We present a system which applies text mining using computational linguistic techniques to automatically extract, categorize, disambiguate and filter metadata for image access. Candidate subject terms are identified through standard approaches; novel semantic categorization using machine learning and disambiguation using both WordNet and a domain specific thesaurus are applied. The resulting metadata can be manually edited by image catalogers or filtered by semi-automatic rules. We describe the implementation of this workbench created for, and evaluated by, image catalogers. We discuss the system's current functionality, developed under the Computational Linguistics for Metadata Building (CLiMB) research project. The CLiMB Toolkit has been …

Adolescent Adherence To Orthopedic Brace Wear: A Behavioral Assessment Of High Risk Factors, Teresa J. Lynch
Adolescent Adherence To Orthopedic Brace Wear: A Behavioral Assessment Of High Risk Factors, Teresa J. Lynch
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
An important challenge physicians encounter when treating adolescent patients with moderate scoliotic curves is that the adolescents may not wear the brace as prescribed or long enough for the brace to be effective. The present investigation used electronic monitoring and temperature probes to investigate whether the adolescents were wearing their brace during events identified using a modified Daily Reconstruction Method for six randomly selected days over a 14-day period. It was hypothesized that environmental, interpersonal, and intrapersonal variables during the events would be predictive of objective brace-wear across and within participants, and patterns of significant variables would differ from subjective …

Applying Game Theory In Libraries: Review And Preview, Ying Zhong, Aaron Hegde
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The paradigm of game theory and its application have aroused increasing interest among researchers in multidisciplinary settings. An information society involves more opportunities and uncertainties; therefore, game theory is expected more often than ever to provide insights into different types of issues of decision-making in economics, management, political science, psychology, and philosophy. A library and its administration, as an important market player in an information society, should have a better understanding about the nature of games and strategies as well. This article starts with a brief introduction to game theory, reviews selected literature, and emphasizes the application of game theory …

A Case Study Of A Gender-Reconstructed Catholic University: The Professional Lives Of Four Women Faculty Members, Judith Lynne Mucheck
Educational Policy Studies Dissertations
Catholic universities across the United States are perceived as some of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the world. As communities of intellect and faith, they have been successful in educating generations of leaders in both the sacred and secular arenas. In the past forty years, they have also been subject to market forces which have forced a re-examination of their fundamental mission of the singular education of young men. Since the late 1960s these same institutions have admitted women undergraduate and graduate students and have seen an increase in the number of their women professors. Utilizing a …

In Case You Missed It: Stephen Mackinnon’S Latest Book On China’S War With Japan
China Beat Blog: Archive 2008-2012
Everyone’s attention this month has been on the Olympics, and rightly so, but August can also be a time to reflect on China’s War of Resistance against Japan (1937-45). Throughout the entire month of August 1938, Japanese planes bombarded Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist Party headquarters in the first provisional capital of Wuhan, a tri-city region in the central Yangzi river region in Hubei province. The fall of Wuhan after a protracted ten-month battle, on October 25th 1938, forced the government to move further inland to its second provisional capital, the city of Chongqing in Sichuan province. This gives us some perspective …

Dating In Midlife: A Dyadic Approach Examining Partner Perceptions On Relationship Quality, Rachel Sheffield
Dating In Midlife: A Dyadic Approach Examining Partner Perceptions On Relationship Quality, Rachel Sheffield
Theses and Dissertations
Using a matched-partner dataset of 660 midlife couples, this study examined dating relationships at midlife from the perspective of both male and female partners. It also explored ways various life course factors such as marital history, children, cohabitation, relationship length, and social approval related to partners' perceptions of one another and to subsequent relationship quality. Findings indicated heterogeneity in midlife dating experiences. Actor and partner effects of enhancement were most often linked with greater satisfaction and fewer problems for never-married couples, yet enhancement was not related to relationship stability for them. For couples where only one partner had been previously …
