Using Primary Care To Bend The Cost Curve: The Potential Impact Of Health Center Expansion In Senate Reforms, Leighton C. Ku, Sara J. Rosenbaum, Peter Shin
Using Primary Care To Bend The Cost Curve: The Potential Impact Of Health Center Expansion In Senate Reforms, Leighton C. Ku, Sara J. Rosenbaum, Peter Shin
Geiger Gibson/RCHN Community Health Foundation Research Collaborative
This analysis of reforms being considered in the United States Senate reaches conclusions similar to those of our prior analyses of reforms being considered in the House of Representatives. The combination of expanded health insurance coverage and investments in the expansion of community health centers can produce substantial long-term savings both for the overall health care system and for the federal government. Our analysis of the Senate provisions from the HELP and Finance Committees estimates $369 billion in total medical savings, including $105 billion in federal Medicaid savings. The Senate provisions produce larger savings because they authorize larger funding increases …

The Visibility Of Deweyan Inquiry In An International Baccalaureate Elementary School, Sabrina Kaye May
The Visibility Of Deweyan Inquiry In An International Baccalaureate Elementary School, Sabrina Kaye May
Educational Policy Studies Dissertations
Research in the field of school curriculum and national organizations such as the National Council for the Social Studies and the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics support the use of inquiry-based curriculum in schools. However, due to the policy constraints of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), inquiry-based curriculum is not common in schools. Within these policy constraints, school principals often turn to reform models to increase student achievement on high-stakes assessments. One particular reform model, the International Baccalaureate Program (IB), requires an inquiry-based curriculum as well as teacher inquiry. Using qualitative inquiry and a normative framework based on Dewey’s …

Learning From Lai Changxing?, Jeremy Brown, Xian Wang
China Beat Blog: Archive 2008-2012
Last year, Angilee Shah wrote a review at China Beat of Oliver August’s Inside the Red Mansion. The review inspired Simon Fraser University Professor Jeremy Brown to assign the text to a class and he recently invited the book’s protaganist, Lai Changxing, to join his class for a day. Brown and one of his students provide an account of the day’s visit below (for a write-up in Chinese, see this report at The Global Chinese Press).
A few days before National Day, Lai Changxing joined our fourth-year Chinese history class at Simon Fraser University. For almost three hours China’s most …

Restorative Discipline As An Alternate To Retributive Discipline Within The Juvenile Court System: An Analysis Of The Metro County Juvenile Court Community Restorative Board, Ajamu Abiola Banjoko
Educational Policy Studies Dissertations
ABSTRACT RESTORATIVE DISCIPLINE AS AN ALTERNATE TO RETRIBUTIVE DISCIPLINE WITHIN THE JUVENILE COURT SYSTEM: AN ANALYSIS OF THE METRO COUNTY JUVENILE COURT COMMUNITY RESTORATIVE BOARD by Ajamu A. Banjoko Giroux (2003) indicated that the prison industry has become a major economic industry with many states spending more money on prison reforms than on educational reforms. Juvenile delinquent behavior should be punished but fair treatment and equal rights for all human beings under the rule of law is paramount to punishment. Casella (2001) indicated that the prison population has sky-rocketed, and by 1995 forty-eight states passed laws to facilitate the prosecution …

The purpose of this analysis is to learn if there are steps that police departments can take to eliminate, or at least minimize and control, this practice that plagues communities and departments across the country. This paper will include an exploration of the theoretical and empirical literature regarding the improvement of laws and …

On a broader level, this book also serves to prepare all global travellers for the experiences and emotions they will encounter as they journey through different time zones, lands, languages, people and cultures. It offers useful information and coping strategies to all those who embark on foreign …
