Comparison Of Housed And Homeless Patients With An Orthopedic Diagnosis, Susan M. Williams Oct 2014

Comparison Of Housed And Homeless Patients With An Orthopedic Diagnosis, Susan M. Williams

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Studies on homelessness have shown that people who are homeless are admitted to hospital more frequently, for longer periods of time, and at a younger age than people who are housed. Once admitted to hospital, discharge planning is difficult and resource intensive, often leading to discharge back to the streets or a shelter. This puts this population at risk for complications and readmission. Although people who are homeless are prone to orthopedic injuries, there is no research on the outcomes of patients who are homeless with orthopedic injuries. This retrospective, case control study, based on the social determinants of health, …

The Chat Is Coming From Inside The House: An Analysis Of Perceived Chat Behavior And Reality, Elizabeth Berndt-Morris, Samantha Minnis

Samantha Minnis

When looking for ways to improve library services, we considered what data sources were readily available to us and how we could harvest and use this data. We investigated three years of chat reference statistics at Central Michigan University, a large research institution, to gain a better understanding of our patrons' chat behavior. We then compared the results to a survey given to the information professionals using chat reference, examining the perceptions of our chat service versus the results of our statistical analysis. With a large population of students on-campus, off-campus, and online, we looked at the incoming location of …

I'M Not A Librarian, I'M A Curator (Como), Sharon Bradley, Thomas J. Striepe

Presentations

A curator collects, organizes, and shares information. Librarians have always been curators. In the ever changing information environment we now need to acknowledge our inner curator and bring those skills to the social media efforts of our institutions. Social content curation is about collecting, organizing, and sharing information in new ways that aid our patrons; they want to follow trusted “filters” of information to save them time. Effective and useful curation can highlight the value of the library in a new way. Identifies skills and tools needed to become social content curators and develop a curation program

Perdagangan Bebas Versus Proteksionisme, Lepi T. Tarmidi

For the past 20 years the world has seen a proliferation of Regional Free Trade Agreements. Some Indonesian economists are criticizing the negative effects of this “neo-liberal” thinking, instead they promote measures of protection to defend domestic industries. Every citizen must bea patriotand a nationalist, and not be a servant of great foreign economic powers. However, the greater majority of economists are for the idea of free trade, since it can bring prosperity to the people through the gains from trade. These economists are also nationalists. However, the controversy between free trade and protectionism has a long history, since the …

Improving Middle School Students' Subjective Well-Being: Efficacy Of A Multi-Component Positive Psychology Intervention Targeting Small Groups Of Youth And Parents, Rachel Anne Roth Oct 2014

Improving Middle School Students' Subjective Well-Being: Efficacy Of A Multi-Component Positive Psychology Intervention Targeting Small Groups Of Youth And Parents, Rachel Anne Roth

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

A dual-factor model of mental health conceptualizes mental health status as a combination of both psychopathology and subjective well-being. Current literature indicates that complete mental health (i.e., low psychopathology, high subjective well-being) is associated with the best academic and social functioning among youth. Thus, the absence of psychopathology alone is not sufficient for student success. While research on interventions for improving subjective well-being, termed positive psychology interventions (PPIs), is increasing, PPIs for youth in particular lag behind similar interventions for adults. Additionally, a majority of youth-focused PPIs have targeted singular constructs (e.g., gratitude, character strengths), have neglected to include relevant …

Measurable Outcomes Of Safety Culture In Aviation - A Meta-Analytic Review, Benjamin J. Goodheart, Maryjo O. Smith Oct 2014

Measurable Outcomes Of Safety Culture In Aviation - A Meta-Analytic Review, Benjamin J. Goodheart, Maryjo O. Smith

International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace

Though the complimentary concepts of safety culture and safety climate have become increasingly popular over the past three decades, they have only infrequently been central to research designed to examine the empirical relationship between safety culture and safety performance. This tenuous link between culture and safety performance outcomes is especially prevalent in the aviation sector. This study systematically examined the existing literature for empirical evidence and explored the available data via meta-analysis to determine whether safety culture was significantly predictive of safety performance in an aviation operational environment. Although a broad, careful review of the literature was accomplished, the results …

Go Before You Go: How Public Toilets Impact Public Transit Usage, Kate M. Washington Oct 2014

Go Before You Go: How Public Toilets Impact Public Transit Usage, Kate M. Washington

PSU McNair Scholars Online Journal

The emphasis on sustainable solutions in Portland, Oregon includes developing multi-modal transportation methods. Using public transit means giving up a certain amount of control over one’s schedule and taking on a great deal of uncertainty when it comes to personal hygiene. Buses, the MAX, and the Streetcar – the cornerstones of public transit in Portland – are not equipped with toilets and rarely are their stations, while most shops and restaurants reserve toilets for patrons only. As a result, many people may bypass public transit in favor of cars, which afford travelers greater autonomy and flexibility. Theories of New Urbanism …

Longitudinal comparisons of perceptions are rarely available over rapid industrial change, and few industries have changed to the degree of airline travel in the post-9/11 decade. This study presents comparative analysis of airline consumer perceptions following September 11th 2001 to findings from a Congressperson-initiated survey of 3,500 travelers ending 2011. The National Airline Quality Rating (AQR), released annually each April at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. and viewed each year by more than 75 million people both nationally and internationally, debuted in the national media as an innovative, objective method of comparing airline quality on combined multiple performance …

Frequent Flier Perceptions And Air Travel Satisfaction: The Airline Passenger Survey 2012, Erin E. Bowen, Brent D. Bowen, Dean E. Headley

Erin Bowen

The Airline Passenger Survey is an annual survey of frequent fliers who visit the web site for the Airline Quality Rating. Since 2009, over 4,000 passengers have responded to researchers’ request to provide a consumer perspective on the quality of today’s air travel experience. Airline Quality Rating researchers at Purdue University and Wichita State University compare the consumer experience of air travel with the objective rankings of the Airline Quality Rating (www.airlinequalityrating.com). These detailed findings are provided publicly and periodically released to the media.
