Transitioning from OPAC to Primo is an extra challenge when the catalog is full of e-books and e-resources which date from before Primo. When you're part of a large consortium and there are multiple copies of those e-resource records in the catalog, the problem is compounded.

This presentation explains, for catalogers, the strategies used at CUNY to improve e-resource results in Primo (while keeping OPAC fans happy a little longer).

* Will an Aleph record get a View Online tab?

Purpose: We aimed to investigate mental health help-seeking intentions and preferences of rural Chinese adults and determine predictors of the intentions.

Methods: A total of 2052 representative rural residents aged 18-60 completed a cross-sectional survey by face-to-face interviews. The survey included seven questions asking about respondents' help-seeking intentions and preferences, and a series of internationally validated instruments to assess self-perceived health status, depression, anxiety, alcohol abuse, mental health literacy, and attitudes towards mental illness.

Results: Nearly 80% of respondents were willing to seek psychological help if needed, and 72.4% preferred to get help from medical organizations, yet only 12% knew …

On Emerging Asia-Pacific Equity Markets From The Perspective Of The Dynamics Of Mean And Volatility Spillovers, Li Xu Nov 2015

On Emerging Asia-Pacific Equity Markets From The Perspective Of The Dynamics Of Mean And Volatility Spillovers, Li Xu

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation investigates the dynamics of mean and volatility spillovers from the U.S. and three large (regional) Asia-Pacific stock markets to ten small (local) ones from June 2008 to May 2013.

After a brief introduction to the main purposes and contributions of my research in Chapter 1, I examine the impact of lagged American and regional returns on the local markets in Chapter 2. By building up a univariate autoregressive model and treating lagged U.S. and regional returns as exogenous variables, I find that the local markets have statistically significant exposure to lagged returns of their own and the U.S. …

50 Shades Of Ebooks With A Hint Of Pda, Laura Edwards, Victoria Koger Nov 2015

50 Shades Of Ebooks With A Hint Of Pda, Laura Edwards, Victoria Koger

EKU Faculty and Staff Scholarship

Institutionally licensed eBooks have not quite lived up to users’ needs and libraries’ expectations. Patrons accustomed to the ease of accessing eBooks purchased via commercial sites such as Amazon and Google Play are sometimes thrown for a loop when they encounter eBooks via the library’s site and the myriad restrictions that seem designed to turn users away. Libraries struggle with managing the complexities of eBook licensing and access, and staying on top of the differences between vendor platforms. Add to that the rapidly changing landscape of the ebook business landscape (rocketing STL prices, conflicting access models for ebooks on the …

Using Behavioral Skills Training And A Warning Sticker To Teach Children Household Poison Safety Skills, Jackalynne Jean Delong Nov 2015

Using Behavioral Skills Training And A Warning Sticker To Teach Children Household Poison Safety Skills, Jackalynne Jean Delong

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to assess if Behavioral Skills Training (BST) can be used to train a sticker to function as a discriminative stimulus (Sᴰ) for engaging in household poison safety skills and assess whether this skill generalized to untrained household chemicals that bear the Sᴰ in the form of a sticker. Three typically developing children ages 3 and 5 and their parents participated in this study which took place in their homes. BST effectively taught children to engage in household poison safety skills when they come into contact with the trained household poison(s) labeled with the sticker …

Model-Based Analytics And Processes For Transportation Investment Alternatives Analyses: From Least Cost Planning To Multi Criterion Evaluation, Jeff Frkonja Nov 2015

Model-Based Analytics And Processes For Transportation Investment Alternatives Analyses: From Least Cost Planning To Multi Criterion Evaluation, Jeff Frkonja

PSU Transportation Seminars

Many public and private organizations that make decisions regarding whether and how to invest in transportation assets or programs do so via a structured decision-support process. This talk will address the technical aspects of the family of such processes that use travel demand model outputs—and other sources of quantified performance data—as inputs to analytic tools including benefit cost analysis (BCA) and multi criterion evaluation. Example applications of this framework have included tolling and pricing studies, capital investment alternatives analyses, and programmatic evaluations. Example processes include "Least Cost Planning" frameworks borrowed originally from the power generation industry.

The talk will also …

Cognitive Reflection And The Diligent Worker: An Experimental Study Of Millennials, Brice Corgnet, Roberto Hernán-González, Ricardo Mateo Nov 2015

Cognitive Reflection And The Diligent Worker: An Experimental Study Of Millennials, Brice Corgnet, Roberto Hernán-González, Ricardo Mateo

Economics Faculty Articles and Research

Recent studies have shown that despite crucially needing the creative talent of millennials (people born after 1980) organizations have been reluctant to hire young workers because of their supposed lack of diligence. We propose to help resolve this dilemma by studying the determinants of task performance and shirking behaviors of millennials in a laboratory work environment. We find that cognitive ability is a good predictor of task performance in line with previous literature. In contrast with previous research, personality traits do not consistently predict either task performance or shirking behaviors. Shirking behaviors, as measured by the time participants spent browsing …

Interpret The Numbers: Putting E-Book Usage Statistics In Context, Maria Savova, Madelynn Dickerson Nov 2015

Interpret The Numbers: Putting E-Book Usage Statistics In Context, Maria Savova, Madelynn Dickerson

Library Staff Publications and Research

E-books have been an integral part of library collections for a long time now, but they are still surrounded by controversy. How much our patrons really use them? That seemingly simple question has a very complicated answer that could depend on a number of factors. The e-books’ usage reports mean very little on their own and leave many unanswered questions. In order to contextualize the usage statistics, the Claremont Colleges Library conducted an analysis of enhanced usage reports in comparison with the total offerings of e-book content available to our users from all major providers, and through all access models. …
