Redundancy Of Instruction : Library Instruction In First-Year Courses, Jeffrey Henry Oct 2015

Redundancy Of Instruction : Library Instruction In First-Year Courses, Jeffrey Henry

Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity

The first-year experience that students have with the library is integral to their success in college and beyond. This poster explores the critical relationship students have with the library and how to nurture it in the first year. Redundancy of material covered in instruction sessions could be off-putting and diminish the perceptions these students have of the library and its offerings. Collecting student feedback to determine the redundancy that students may be experiencing in these first-year course library instruction sessions and the usefulness of the information presented to them can help to inform us about future materials covered.

Value And Method In Desai's Geopolitical Economy, David Kristjanson-Gural Oct 2015

Value And Method In Desai's Geopolitical Economy, David Kristjanson-Gural

Faculty Journal Articles

This essay identifies the key conceptual contributions of Radhika Desai’s important and insightful analysis in her book, Geopolitical Economy. It then critically engages two key elements of her contribution: her characterization of Western Marxism and a methodological economism and theoretical essentialism that this essay argues have the unintended effect of reinforcing a marginalization of Marxism that her work is intended to redress.

From Isolation To Collaboration: An Autoethnographic Account, Andrew Sutherland Oct 2015

From Isolation To Collaboration: An Autoethnographic Account, Andrew Sutherland

The Qualitative Report

In this paper I explore my personal experiences with collaborative music performance projects. Collaborations between different groups of musicians can be a transformative moment in the lives of students and music educators. The process of collaboration provides opportunities that cannot always be achieved when an ensemble performs alone. Many of these projects were undertaken in my role as a music educator responsible for school music ensembles but in one case, as a conductor of a community band. This idiographic auto-ethnographical study is based on my own reflective journal, which was analysed using Autoethnography and Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis. The themes identified …

Embedding Researcher’S Reflexive Accounts Within The Analysis Of A Semi-Structured Qualitative Interview, Nashwa Ibrahim, Alison Edgley Oct 2015

Embedding Researcher’S Reflexive Accounts Within The Analysis Of A Semi-Structured Qualitative Interview, Nashwa Ibrahim, Alison Edgley

The Qualitative Report

This manuscript aims to embed a researcher’s reflexive account within a qualitative interview in an iterative process whereby a self-analytic reflexive exercise was conducted prior to, during the interview, and within the analysis of the interview. This interview was conducted between an overseas PhD student as an interviewer and a native PhD student as interviewee. The researcher’s (interviewer) demonstration of learning about herself is of particular importance in this piece of work. Having the chance to conduct this interview between an overseas PhD student and a native student provided insights about the stereotypes implanted within the researcher which meant that …

Wind Energy Development In Ontario: Factors Influencing Deployment And Policy Outcomes, Emmanuel T. Songsore Oct 2015

Wind Energy Development In Ontario: Factors Influencing Deployment And Policy Outcomes, Emmanuel T. Songsore

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The goal of this thesis is to gain an understanding of the factors promoting and hindering wind energy development (henceforth WED) from the perspective of communities and developers in Ontario. Ontario arguably has one of the most ambitious policies for WED in the world, centered on the Green Energy and Green Economy Act, 2009 (henceforth GEA). Despite progressing to become Canada’s leading province in installed wind energy capacity, various conflicts and roadblocks to deployment remain evident.

In response to gaps identified in literature seeking to understand the factors that impact the (un)successful deployment of wind power, the current thesis provides …
