The Complex Interplay Of Eu-China And Eu-Hksar Relations, Antonia Gough

Due to a unique colonial history, Hong Kong today operates under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework. In the years immediately following the handover, it was generally thought that this was working quite well. In recent years, however, tensions have arisen within the “One Country, Two Systems” model, most notably including the 2014 Umbrella Movement, the imprisonment of student protesters and various notable incidents like the disappearance of five book publishers. This article aims to uncover how consistent the EU is in promoting democratic norms in its relations with the HKSAR. Using discourse analysis of relevant EU documents, the article …

Organizational Politics: Harmful Or Helpful?, Laura Porter Soares
Organizational Politics: Harmful Or Helpful?, Laura Porter Soares
Instructional Design Capstones Collection
Politics play a role in almost every organization – churches, schools, sports teams, and even volunteer organizations. However, the place where politics can directly impact people on a daily basis is the workplace.
Literature on organizational politics has historically focused on a negative view of politics. More recently, however, researchers have discovered that workplace politics is not inherently negative and can even include positive traits. This shift primarily began with the work of Gotsis and Kortezi in 2010 and 2011. As researchers sought to expand the perspective, they argued that organizational politics has the potential to be positive, as well. …

The Senkaku dispute refers to a territorial claim between China and Japan over a group of eight pinnacle islands in East China Sea. Japan has taken a valid control over the Senkaku Islands since 1895. Yet, in the light of historical records, China claims the islands as a part of its ancient territory. This article aims to analyze Japan’s motives in taking repetitive peaceful measure in handling the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands dispute. Most of existing academic writing about China-Japan discord put emphasize on the findings related to mutual aid and regime, strategy and policy, power projection and threat perception, and interaction …

The Development Of Concept Of Territory In International Relations, Ghifari Athallah Ramadhan
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
The concept of territory, a politicized space, is not really explored in International Relations, even though territory is where International Relations happen physically. This article explores the development of the concept of territory in International Relations. By seeing the development of the concept of territory in International Relations, I could see the main arguments regarding territory. For example, I could understand the argument behind the jargon of “borderless world” or “return of geography”. In order to fully explain the development of the concept of territory in International Relations, I divide my research into five parts. First, I would describe the …

The program consisted of a series of activities developed to increase social integration with both students and faculty. Collaborative Gatekeeping Between Site Supervisors And Mental Health Counseling Faculty, Christian Dean, Sarah E. Stewart-Spencer, Anne Cabanilla, Dale V. Wayman, Mindy Heher
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
This study examined collaborative gatekeeping practices of CACREP-accredited (2001 and 2009 standards) mental health counseling programs and fieldwork site supervisors. A total of 28 programs participated in the study exploring site supervisor collaboration with fieldwork faculty when a problematic trainee is terminated, dismissed, or fired from a fieldwork site. Results indicate that a lack of clear policies for managing problem fieldwork trainees may leave counselor educators uncertain about appropriate follow-up actions. Recommendations for future studies include replicating this study using a larger sample size, studying this topic and population using qualitative methods, and surveying the perspective of site supervisors.

Indonesian Perspective Of Wellbeing: A Qualitative Study, Herdiyan Maulana, Patricia Obst, Nigar Khawaja
The Qualitative Report
Cross-cultural research suggests that wellbeing may be experienced differently by distinct populations. While research on wellbeing in non-Western populations has increased, there is limited empirical evidence regarding wellbeing in Indonesia. As the fourth largest country in the world, and with its unique socio-cultural characteristics, the potentially distinctive Indonesian experience of wellbeing has been overlooked by international scholars. The present research investigated the Indonesian perception of wellbeing using a qualitative thematic analysis approach. Thirty Indonesian adults participated in semi structured interviews which focused on their understanding and experience of wellbeing. The analysis revealed a number of keythemes: fulfilment of basic needs; …

Purpose, Power, Politics, Privilege, And Promise: A Review Of International Perspectives On Autoethnographic Research And Practice, Kay Aranda Dr
The Qualitative Report
This collection of international critical scholarship seeks to question, provoke, unsettle and reengage with changing understandings of autoethnography, its research and practices. In this review I share my reading of these contributions by highlighting important themes running throughout the book. These involve the shared but differently positioned vulnerabilities present in knowledge making, alongside desires for recognition, visibility or belonging. However, equally present are processes of misrecognition, silencing and othering resulting from unequal distributions of power and privilege. This book reaffirms how autoethnographic research may recognise vulnerabilities, but these are always more than individual suffering. Vulnerability becomes political. The scope and …

Engagement, Advocacy, Empowerment, And Inclusion: A Review Of Patricia Leavy And Anne Harris’S Contemporary Feminist Research From Theory To Practice, Stephanie Fitzsimmons
The Qualitative Report
Feminism is a broad and often misunderstood concept; for some it harks back to the suffragette movement, to others the 1960’s and 1970’s, some to today’s current political climate, and other still to something else. Contemporary Feminist Research from Theory to Practice takes a look at the herstory of feminism, feminist approaches to research, and responsibilities of feminist researchers. Leavy and Harris do a wonderful job of engaging the reader throughout the book. While each chapter builds on one another, they also stand alone, allowing for both a full-scale immersion into feminism and research, as well as essential nuggets for …
