Un Viaje Gráfico De Crítica Política: Análisis Geográfico-Temático De Los Diseños De Eneko De Las Heras Sobre Los Periódicos Interviú Y 20 Minutos, Giovanni Pietro Vitali

Artl@s Bulletin

The Afghan Peace Talks, China, And The Afghan Elections, Grant M. Farr

Sociology Faculty Publications and Presentations

After more than a year of negotiations it appeared in the fall of 2019 that an agreement had been reached between the United States and the Afghan Taliban. Yet before the agreement could be formally signed, the United States backed away from the agreement citing the death of an American serviceman as a result of a Taliban bomb. The negotiations are now officially on hold, although Zalmay Khalilzad, the United States Special Representative, continues to talk to the Taliban through other channels. The failure, at least so far, of an agreement between the United States and Taliban has numerous consequences, …

The First Primary: Why New Hampshire?, David W. Moore, Andrew Smith

Carsey School of Public Policy

In this brief, authors David Moore and Andrew Smith describe the origin of the New Hampshire presidential primary and the Iowa presidential caucuses. The developments by which these two small states came to hold the first nominating contests every four years were accidental, generated by a variety of events not at all intended to educate future leaders and certainly not adopted with any expectation that these states would emerge with the enormous influence that comes with being first. But once Iowa and New Hampshire were first, and once they realized the extensive benefits the position brought to them, their leaders …

Co‐construction theory suggests adolescents use digital communication to address developmental challenges. For a sample of 214 ethnically diverse adolescents, this research used direct observation to investigate the frequency, content, and timing of texting with parents, peers, and romantic partners through grades 9–12. Analyses showed that texting frequency follows a curvilinear trajectory, peaking in eleventh grade. Adolescents discussed a range of topics, predominantly with peers. Communication with parents was less frequent, but consistent over time. Approximately 45‐65% of adolescents communicated with romantic partners, texting heavily and about topics similar to those discussed with peers. Texting may help adolescents navigate key developmental …

Parenting Paused: Pathological Video Game Use And Parenting Outcomes, Laura Stockdale, Sarah M. Coyne

Faculty Publications

For most people, playing video games is a normal recreational activity, with little disruption to gamers’ emotional, social, or physical health and well-being. However, for a small percentage of gamers, video gaming can become pathological (Fam, 2018). Substantial research has examined pathological gaming in teens and young adults (Cheng, Cheung, & Wang, 2018; Choo, Gentile, Sim, Khoo, & Liau, 2010), yet pathological gaming in adults (c.f.Holgren, 2017), especially in the context of parenthood, has been relatively ignored. The current study sought to address this limitation by studying associations between pathological gaming characteristics and parenting outcomes in a sample of men …

This paper will use thematic analysis of qualitative data from in-depth interviews and ethnographic fieldwork with 50 migrant sex workers and trafficked persons, as well as 20 key informants from legal and social services, in New York and Los Angeles. Twitter Use By Academic Libraries In New York State, Sheena Philogene

Urban Library Journal

Twitter can be a productive tool for academic libraries to use when sharing information, marketing services, and building relationships with students, yet it is difficult to know whether academic libraries are utilizing this platform by creating an independent library account. Furthermore, if academic libraries do have accounts, it is valuable to understand what academic libraries use Twitter for, and what kinds of media they share. The purpose of this study then is to investigate whether academic libraries in New York State (NYS) use Twitter, and if they do, how and why. Based on a sample of 226 academic libraries of …

Mindfulness has been linked with positive relationship outcomes; however, there is limited understanding regarding which facets of mindfulness are most related to couples’ relationship satisfaction and the potential role of discrepancy in mindfulness between partners for relationship satisfaction. Conceptual Image Of English, Russian And Uzbek Socio-Political Discourse (Comparison), Gulnoza Amonova Phd Student

The thesaurus of socio-political vocabulary is based on intra-systemic conceptual relations between units of this lexical group. The concept “power” is a structure-formed mean for this vocabulary. Being the main descriptors of the thesaurus of socio-political vocabulary, concepts project a number of their characteristics on to the lexical groups organized by them. Moreover, the structure of the corresponding branches of the thesaurus is largely determined by the internal, structural features of the concepts. As a result of this, it seems necessary to analyze these key concepts for socio-political vocabulary, as well as the concepts “people” and “nation” that are significant …
