A Review Of Information Behaviour Literature On Professoriates Across Disciplinary Fields, Simeon Ambrose Nwone (Phd), Stephen M. Mutula (Prof)
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This paper reviewed empirical literature on information behaviour of academic faculty across disciplinary fields with particular reference to studies whose demography included the professoriate in the context of their information needs, purposeful information seeking and use of information for teaching and research. Paucity of literature focusing on the professoriate prompted this study. Literature focusing on the professoriate will provide a rich theoretical and contextual background for researchers embarking on studies that focus specifically on the professoriate in related information context, besides filling the knowledge gap in library and information science literature. The scope of the literature review covers scholarly journals …

Maqāsid al-Shariʿah has been typically defined as the objectives behind the Islamic rulings or the Shariʿah higher intent. This knowledge is very important for the mujtahids and Islamic scholars not only to understand or interpret the Shariʿah legal texts, but also to deduce solutions for contemporary problems faced by Muslims. Maqāsid al-Shariʿah is traditionally divided into three levels of necessity, which are necessities (al-Ḍaruriyyāt), needs (al-Ḥajiyyāt), and luxuries (al-Taḥsiniyyāt). Extensive discussion of maqāsid al-shariʿah in Islamic jurisprudence has led to the classification of five elements of preservation, inter alia, protection of faith or …

Librarians And Their Distinctive Personality Traits In The 21st Century Digital Era, Shohar Bano, Midhat Mehraj, Ikhlaq Ur Rehman
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
While there is a fair extension of literature in terms of core skills required by librarians but there is rareness of research on competencies that librarians should possess in terms of their personality traits that distinguish them from the rest of the professions. The role of librarians in the 21st century has migrated from information disseminators to the talent searchers, technological experts, innovators, strategy makers, and entrepreneur. Accordingly, they cannot rely on so-called "soft skills" of primitive nature; their skills must have a touch of dynamism. Library Management System With Topic Modelling And Its Adaptability To Open And Distance Learning Libraries, Babafemi Richard Adebayo
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The adoption of Integrated Library Systems (ILS) became prevalent in the 1980s and 1990s as libraries began or continued to automate their processes. These systems enabled library staff work, in many cases, more efficiently than in the past.
However, these systems are restrictive and have thus undergone changes over the years, making processes more efficient. One area of improved capabilities is that of “search”, which in this paper, builds on integrating topic modeling as a new feature in modern integrated library systems in open and distance learning institutions. Users can now partake and explore new ways of resolving text classification …
