The summer of 2020 proved to be a season like no other. Complete with extended stay-at-home orders, and steadily increasing coronavirus positivity rates, no one was prepared for the peak of the Black Lives Matter movement to claim the world’s attention during the global pandemic. In the weeks following the murder of George Floyd by police officer Derek Chauvin, half a million Americans participated in nationwide protests to demand an end to the use of excessive force against Black Americans by police. The continuous airing of coronavirus updates were suddenly replaced by media coverage of growing social unrest: footage of …

The proportion of women entrepreneurs has increased dramatically over the past decade, not just in the developed world but also in developing countries. This led to a significant increase in the governments’ attention towards designing and implementing female-focused policies to allocate adequate resources for empowering women entrepreneurs in Egypt. This paper examines one main question: How does the Egyptian government empower women entrepreneurs through key policy interventions? This is only possible through testing the proposed research hypotheses and investigating Egypt’s publicized policies and governmental interventions. Based on a gender-lens perspective, this research tries to close the gaps in previous research …

The Basha's Tools? Imagining Alternative Justice Futures In Egypt, Farah Ghazal
The Basha's Tools? Imagining Alternative Justice Futures In Egypt, Farah Ghazal
Theses and Dissertations
The dominant approach to addressing violence against women in Egypt today is carceral, or relying on the punitive instruments of the state to achieve justice (most visibly represented by the prison and police). While carceral responses are perhaps unsurprisingly advocated by state feminism, they are also promoted by what would typically be described as anti-state actors. This paradoxical entanglement takes place during what I identify as the 'carceral moment', a period marked by the intensification of political and social repression and during which incarceration appears more readily available as a solution to remedy perceived problems of governance. I argue that, …

: For the design of high frequency networks power has been one of the most significant specifications. Power usage is therefore one of the most significant challenges to microprocessor design. If we lower the supply voltage, this immediately leads to a decrease in static and dynamic power usage in order to reduce the circuit's power dissipation. Decreasing the voltage of the supply, however, often decreases the circuit's output, which is not reasonable.
The low power proposed phase locked loop (PLL) is therefore built using microwind 3.1, 45nm CMOS/VLSI technology, which, in practice, at low power, delivers high intensity output. The …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The aim of this study is to evaluate and assess the initiatives and techniques of preserving traditional medicinal knowledge. The dependence on indigenous knowledge in communities is continuous as it was years back. Thus indigenous knowledge remains the primary foundation for local decision making in developing countries and it signifies an imperative component of worldwide knowledge on development issues. Research in indigenous knowledge has shown enormous growth over the years while most of the indigenous knowledge is still found in its tacit form. It is necessary to evaluate these initiatives and techniques of preserving traditional medicinal knowledge because of the …

Reflections On “To Study The Self Is To Forget The Self’: Zen Lessons On Ego And Leadership In Higher Education”, Jody Condit Fagan
Libraries
Stuart Lachs kindly wrote a response to my conference paper, “To study the self is to forget the self’: Zen lessons on ego and leadership in higher education” (Fagan, 2020), which led to a highly fruitful correspondence and an expansion on my thinking related to Zen, ego, and Zen practice in America today. Conversations with fellow practitioners and follow-up readings have also continued to shape my thinking. This response paper summarizes my reflections.

In-Group Versus Out-Group Preferences In Intergroup Conflict: An Experiment, Subhashish M. Chowdhury, Anwesha Mukherjee, Roman M. Sheremeta
ESI Working Papers
Individuals participating in a group conflict have different preferences, e.g., maximizing their own payoff, maximizing the group’s payoff, or defeating the rivals. When such preferences are present simultaneously, it is difficult to distinctly identify the impact of those preferences on conflict. In order to separate in-group and out-group preferences, we conduct an experiment in which human in-group or out-group players are removed while keeping the game strategically similar. Our design allows us to study (i) how effort in a group conflict vary due to in-group and out-group preferences, and (ii) how the impact of these preferences vary when the two …

Adolescent Healthcare Contacts In The Year Before Suicide: A Case Control Study, Ana Lanier, Jordan Braciszewski, Hsueh-Han Yeh, Gregory Simon, Rebecca Rossom, Frances Lynch, Stephen Waring, Christine Lu, Ashli Owen-Smith, Arbe Beck, Brian Ahmedani
Medical Student Research Symposium
Introduction: Suicide rates among adolescents have risen steadily since 2007, creating a dire need to expand prevention protocols. Healthcare systems have been identified as a key avenue for identification and intervention. To date, no comprehensive analysis has been done to understand adolescent-specific characteristics and healthcare utilization prior to suicide death.
Methods: A case-control study was conducted using records from eight healthcare systems nationwide. Data from 450 subjects aged 10-24 who died by suicide between the years 2000-2013 was matched with 4500 controls based on health system and time period of membership. We examined past-year health diagnoses and patterns of visit …

The popularity of waist cinchers, shapewear, abdominal binders, corsets, and waist trainers has increased in the population. Although corsets have been part of western fashion since the 18th century, abdominal compressors remain in style even today. In 2018, sales for shapewear worldwide were estimated at 2.26 billion USD. 1 Despite its popularity, shapewear safety and medical effects have not been widely studied.

Background: Zero Knowledge Proof is a persuasive cryptographic protocol employed to provide data security by keeping the user's identity, using the services anonymously. Zero Knowledge Proof can be the preferred option to use in multiple circumstances. Instead of using the public key cryptographic protocols, the zero-knowledge proof usage does not expose or leak confidential data or information during the transmission. Zero Knowledge Proof protocols are comparatively lightweight; this results in making it efficient in terms of memory. Zero Knowledge Proof applications can reside in authentication, identity management, cryptocurrency transactions, and many more. Traditional authentication schemes are vulnerable to attacks …
