Assessment Of Empirical And Semi-Analytical Algorithms Using Modis-Aqua For Representing In-Situ Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (Cdom) In The Bering, Chukchi, And Western Beaufort Seas Of The Pacific Arctic Region, Melishia I. Santiago, Karen E. Frey Jan 2021

Frey

Geography

We analyzed a variety of satellite-based ocean color products derived using MODIS-Aqua to investigate the most accurate empirical and semi-analytical algorithms for representing in-situ chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) across a large latitudinal transect in the Bering, Chukchi, and western Beaufort Seas of the Pacific Arctic region. In particular, we compared the performance of empirical (CDOM index) and several semi-analytical algorithms (quasi-analytical algorithm (QAA), Carder, Garver-Siegel-Maritorena (GSM), and GSM-A) with field measurements of CDOM absorption (aCDOM) at 412 nanometers (nm) and 443 nm. These algorithms were compared with in-situ CDOM measurements collected on cruises during July 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, …

Efficacy As Safety: Dominant Cultural Assumptions And The Assessment Of Contraceptive Risk, Andrea Bertotti, Emily S. Mann, Skye A. Miner Jan 2021

Efficacy As Safety: Dominant Cultural Assumptions And The Assessment Of Contraceptive Risk, Andrea Bertotti, Emily S. Mann, Skye A. Miner

Sociology & Criminology Faculty Research

To reduce rates of unintended pregnancy, medical and public health associations endorse a contraceptive counseling model that ranks birth control methods by failure rate. This tiered model outlines all forms of birth control but recommends long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) to eliminate user error and increase continuation. Our critical discourse analysis of gynecology textbooks and medical recommendations examines how gendered and neoliberal ideas influence risk assessments underlying the tiered contraceptive counseling model. Specifically, we explore how embodied, lifestyle, and medical risks are constructed to prioritize contraceptive failure over adverse side effects and reproductive autonomy. We find that the tiered model's focus …

Social Media Research In Hospitality And Tourism: A Causal Chain Framework Of Literature Review, Xi Yu Leung, Jie Sun, Billy Bai Jan 2021

Social Media Research In Hospitality And Tourism: A Causal Chain Framework Of Literature Review, Xi Yu Leung, Jie Sun, Billy Bai

Hospitality Faculty Research

Purpose – The present study aims to conduct a systematic literature review to und erstand how current social media studies have adopted theories, used research constructs, and developed conceptual frameworks. Design – The current study examined 149 articles on social media published in the top eight hospitality and tourism journals between 2007 and 2017. Methodology – First, descriptive statistics were presented to show the status quo of theories and constructs used in social media-related articles. Second, three causal chain frameworks are developed based on the antecedent-moderator–mediator-outcome model. Findings – First, psychological theory is the predominant theory that has been applied …

© 2021, Medical Library Association. All rights reserved. The Medical Library Association (MLA) appointed a Diversity and Inclusion Task Force (DITF) in 2017. Sandra G. Franklin, AHIP, FMLA, chaired the task force and guided initiatives. From 2017 to 2020, the task force completed a review of MLA defining documents—including the mission, vision, values, and code of ethics— resulting in language updates to these documents. As MLA transitioned through the communities process, the DITF contributed to the transition. Other recommended essential changes to MLA profiles to promote awareness included updating pronouns to promote gender inclusivity and suggestions for the Annual Meeting …
