Decision Making Related To Situations When Sexual Violence Might Occur, Shakeia Salem

The definition of sexual violence has changed over the years to include all unconsented sexual contact. Sexual violence is a global issue targeting young, college-aged adults. We used hypothetical scenarios to determine the discounting rates of participants in situations where sexual violence might occur. Undergraduate students (n = 146; mean age 20.18 years) from Georgia Southern University participated in our study. My artworks explore the impacts of the technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which began in the early 21^st Century, upon global society and the human psyche. My works are instantiated by multi-year research in the areas of social psychology, cognitive dissonance, computer evolution and artificial intelligence. My body of work portrays a cautionary sensibility regards new technologies such as robotics, quantum supercomputing, Artificial Intelligence, commercial space travel and nanotechnology. Unwalkable cities are afflicted by serious issues such as increasing rates of pedestrian traffic accidents, public health concerns, and the denied right to have an accessible city. This study examines how different types of urban forms and street infrastructure contribute to the prevalence of traffic accidents in two major metropolitan cities in the United States: Atlanta, Georgia, and Boston, Massachusetts. Persuasive health messages are frequently advertised throughout the pandemic to decrease the spread of COVID-19 while increasing the likelihood of immunity. However, research demonstrates that persuasive health messages may be ineffective because they have the potential to elicit psychological reactance. Reactance is characterized by a state of unpleasant motivational arousal and often occurs when individuals experience or perceive threats to their freedom, and it can be evoked through controlling language (Frey et al., 2021; Grandpre et al., 2003). This thesis responds to criticism of Robert A. Heinlein’s Starship Troopers (1959) as a “fascist” novel by further investigating the claim through a close reading of the novel that applies political theory scholarship on fascism. Chapters I and II introduce the novel along with its general reception and controversy. These chapters consider the accusations of “fascism” given to the novel while at the same time understanding that a clear, exact definition of “fascism” has long been grappled with by scholars since the rise of the regimes in Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. SDM in youth psychotherapy is understudied, and a critical gap in the field is the paucity of established measures designed to assess SDM practices in youth psychotherapy. Turner Syndrome (TS) results from the total or partial loss of the second X chromosome in females. Approximately 73,469 individuals across Canada and the U.S. are affected by TS. Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep-related breathing disorder that produces repetitive obstruction or collapse of the upper airway. Positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy is the gold standard treatment for OSA. Hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) is considered an alternative treatment for patients who are unable to tolerate PAP therapy. The purpose of the study was to examine sleep, mental health, and cognitive health outcomes before and after HNS to determine its viability as an alternative treatment.

Community violence exposure is prevalent among youth residing in economically marginalized communities that have high rates of violence. Witnessing community violence has been concurrently associated with persistent adverse consequences. However, few studies have applied a developmental psychopathology framework and examined dynamic developmental processes between witnessing community violence and outcomes over time. Family therapy is considered a well-established treatment approach for adolescent externalizing problems; however, research examining its effectiveness when delivered in routine practice settings has produced mixed results. Village development and improving village status are among the main agendas of the Indonesian Government. Village fund maybe have an important role, however, empirical studies on village funds and village status are still limited. This study aims to prove impact of the village fund on the development of village status according to the Village Development Index in Indonesia. Using First Difference method between 2014 and 2018, we found that village funds had a partially significant impact on the development of village status. Although statistically significant, the regression coefficient shows a small economic impact.

Large companies have the financial power to play a price strategy so it can threaten the existence of small companies. In this case, the government implements a minimum price policy to protect small entrepreneurs from unfair price competition. This paper aims to determine the correlation between implementing the minimum price policy and the price strategy in the cigarette industry. Using panel data of DJBC market transaction price survey for 2015-2019 period covering 199 cigarette brands in 25 Indonesian provinces and random effect model, the study found that the implementation of the minimum price policy (HTP 85%) is significantly correlated with …

Given the mixed results of the existing research on the relationship between transport infrastructure and economic growth in Indonesia, this study, which aims to examine this relationship, uses two approaches, first using time-series data and second using panel data. From the first approach, this study concludes that there is a unidirectional relationship from economic growth to road infrastructure, while between economic growth and air and sea transportation infrastructure there is no relationship. Similar results were also found using the second approach. The growth of three types transport infrastructure does not have a significant effect on economic growth.

This chapter describes a lab course redesigned by two librarians in a small liberal arts college. The course is tied to an undergraduate methods course, "Research, Media, Culture," in a Critical Media & Cultural Studies program. The lab had previously been taught as a synchronous course over three weeks. As a response to lower enrollments in the major, as well as the virtual teaching mode for the main course, we adapted the lab component into a six-week asynchronous course pilot with a goal of delving more deeply into information literacy pedagogy than the previous course format allowed. This paper examines subnational aid allocation patterns during the postwar period in Sri Lanka, focusing on whether war-affected areas receive aid. We use geocoding, mapping, and econometric analysis to understand whether war-affected districts received more aid than others after controlling for economic development. The paper uses geocoded aid projects comparing the aid allocation priorities of the People's Republic of China (PRC) as a bilateral donor and World Bank and Asian Development Bank as multilateral donors. In my paper I examine how different living arrangements impact how well a child performs in school. The living arrangements are: living with both biological parents, living with biological mother, and living with biological father. Using a linear regression method, I regress living arrangements against GPA and find that children who do not live with both of their biological parents are expected to perform about 0.3 GPA points worse in school than children who do. With added control variables the difference in predicted GPAs decreases. Additionally, I find that living arrangements aren’t predicted to impact children differently depending on their …

In order to have an understanding of ancient third millennium BCE fisheries, as part of the Indus Valley Tradition (ca. 3300 to 1700 BCE), appropriate ethnoarchaeological models should be developed. The research reported herein was conducted between the years 1991 and 1999, with most of the data collection completed in 13 months between the years 1993 and 1994. The primary fishing methods are related to seine and cast nets, with some specific traps as well as hookand- line. Rationale Translational research, especially research that bridges studies with humans and nonhuman species, is critical to advancing our understanding of human disorders such as addiction. This advancement requires reliable and rigorous models to study the underlying constructs contributing to the maladaptive behavior.

Objective In this commentary, we address some of the challenges of conducting translational research by examining a single procedure, place conditioning. Place conditioning is commonly used with laboratory animals to study the conditioned rewarding effects of drugs, and recent studies indicate that a similar procedure can be used in humans.

The act of suicide is commonly viewed as wrong in some sense, but it is not clear why this is. Based on past empirical research and philosophical theorizing, we test ten different explanations for why suicide is opposed on normative grounds. Using a within-subjects design, Study 1 showed that seven out of ten manipulations had significant effects on normative judgments of suicide: time left to live, lack of close social relationships, a history of prior immoral behavior, the manner in which the suicide is committed, painful, incurable medical issues, impulsive decision-making, and the actor’s own moral-religious background. Submerged items are often thought to lack evidentiary value. However, previous studies have shown the ability to recover DNA from submerged porous items for upwards of six weeks. The crevices or interweaving fibers in porous items are thought to protect DNA from being washed away. It is hypothesized that, because non-porous surfaces do not have the same traits that might aid in DNA retention, then DNA quantities and the number of donor alleles recovered would decrease over longer submersion periods.
