The following thesis is research into the Family Communication Patterns (FCP) (McLeod & Chaffee, 1972) of “alcoholics and drug addicts” (ADA) with long-term recovery stages III and IV. Improving relapse rates of ADA in early recovery stage I and stage II may require knowledge about the family communication environment and family type of those ADA with extended recovery time. This is an exploratory descriptive of FCP and family typology of 81 ADA identifying as Twelve-step fellowship (TSF) members recovering from the disease of addiction (Jellinek, 1947; 1960). The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many libraries in the United States to focus on providing remote services and reimagine in-person services. At the same time, many library users are not or cannot visit physical buildings and may not be easy to reach. Libraries are communicating new service methods, protocols for health and safety, new and changing hours, policies, and more. This article discusses how libraries are communicating with patrons during the COVID-19 pandemic.

LGBTQ patients experience discrimination and poor access to quality health care, but there is little inquiry on the experiences of LGBTQ patients in student health clinic. The purpose of this study was to examine the quality of patient-provider communication (PPC) among sexual and gender minority patients, especially those who have intersecting minority identities, in a student healthcare setting. An online survey measured PPC using the Communication Assessment Tool (CAT) and contextual questions regarding identity and perceptions of judgment. Analysis tested intersectional variance in both. The Impact Of Parental Presence In The Nicu On Hospital Alienation And Other Distress Measures, Katherine D. Taylor, Lindsey Mclaughlin, Devon Kuehn, Justin Campbell, John Kohler Sr, Jason Higginson

Parental presence in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) positively impacts infant development. Few studies have examined the impact of presence on parental distress. Alienation, or lack of trust in the healthcare team, may occur independently from other forms of distress. Increased parental presence was hypothesized to reduce alienation by allowing for more positive in-person interaction with hospital staff. Parents of infants born < 28 weeks or < 1000 grams were prospectively enrolled and completed several surveys measuring distress prior to discharge, including a novel hospital alienation questionnaire. Spearman correlation was used to compare distress measures and visitation rates of 68 mothers and 6 fathers. Alienation was rarely reported and was uncorrelated with other distress measures. Maternal presence was most strongly correlated with anxiety, though this was not statistically significant. Fathers who were more alienated were present in the NICU less and correlation between maternal and paternal alienation was strong. These results were not statistically significant, however. Though statistically significant results were not produced in this research, hospital alienation does appear to be a distinct concept that has been unstudied previously.

Leaving our comfort zones can be anxiety producing and disruptive, especially in the short term. But change can also lead to personal growth and greater job satisfaction for both employees and managers. If change is welcomed, employees become engaged and even excited to move forward as they implement a new strategy and meet the shared goals ahead.

Social Support During Covid-19 Social Distancing, Josiah P. Stryd

This pilot study measured emotional affect, social support, and use of digital communication technologies during the early 2020 COVID-19 stay at home order in Michigan among 65 Grand Valley State University Alumni Association members. The study used an online survey and was designed to examine the relationship between digital communication and social support during physical social distancing, and how this impacted emotional affect. Overall, the pilot study found largely unchanged reported emotional affect and social support before and during the stay at home order. Organizational Communication is a compilation of open educational resources addressing the premise of an organization as a culture. The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe 13 students’ experiences of college professor communication in asynchronous online courses at a large urban community college in central North Carolina. The focus was to answer the central research question of how online students describe communication experiences in an online college learning environment. Communicating archaeology to non-expert audiences can convey the role and value of the discipline, implant respect for heritage, and connect descendant communities to their past. A challenge facing archaeology communicators is to translate complex ideas while retaining their richness and maximizing audience engagement. The study is conducted among 100 adolescents in Kerala State in India to know the sharing of information by the adolescents with their parents. The matters they communicate with their parents and the matters they are reluctant to communicate are studied. The data was collected using questionnaire. The analysis of the data was done based on the responses received from 92 adolescents. The analysis reveals that the adolescents communicate with their parent most frequently.
