Google Analytics offers powerful web metrics to help IR managers track the usage of their content. But it’s also full of excellent material to help market the IR. For example, the data that Google Analytics provides shows how depositers can reach a global audience: use a Google Maps mashup to highlight trending topics in your IR in particular parts of the world, or point out to a reluctant professor that her colleagues’ work is being downloaded in emerging markets worldwide – get creative and find out what Google Analytics can do for you! We learned through Google Analytics that an …

Relationship Between Graduate Students’ Statistics Self-Efficacy, Statistics Anxiety, Attitude Toward Statistics, And Social Support, Michelle Perepiczka, Nichelle Chandler, Michael Becerra
School of Counseling and Human Services Publications
Statistics plays an integral role in graduate programs. However, numerous intra- and interpersonal factors may lead to successful completion of needed coursework in this area. The authors examined the extent of the relationship between self-efficacy to learn statistics and statistics anxiety, attitude towards statistics, and social support of 166 graduate students enrolled in master’s and doctoral programs within colleges of education. Results indicated that statistics anxiety and attitude towards statistics were statistically significant predictors of self-efficacy to learn statistics, yet social support was not a statistically significant predictor of self-efficacy. Insight into how this population responds to statistics courses and …

Death To Kappa: Birth Of Quantity Disagreement And Allocation Disagreement For Accuracy Assessment, Robert Gilmore Pontius, Marco Millones
Geography
The family of Kappa indices of agreement claim to compare a map's observed classification accuracy relative to the expected accuracy of baseline maps that can have two types of randomness: (1) random distribution of the quantity of each category and (2) random spatial allocation of the categories. Use of the Kappa indices has become part of the culture in remote sensing and other fields. This article exam- ines five different Kappa indices, some of which were derived by the first author in 2000. We expose the indices' properties mathematically and illustrate their limitations graphically, with emphasis on Kappa's use of …

Statistics For National Development, Sani I. Doguwa
Statistics For National Development, Sani I. Doguwa
CBN Journal of Applied Statistics (JAS)
Good statistics that has been collected according to agreed good practices are crucial as a tool for development. Gross domestic product (GDP) and other measures of economic activity such as Gross National Income (GNI) together with their individual components, show how the economy is responding to government policy and other influences. The balance of payments can demonstrate the requirement for policy adjustments and is also one of the indicators scrutinised by potential foreign investors in the country. Agricultural statistics clearly have implications for longer-term planning, particularly if they show a move away from the land into urban areas or a …
