Nebraska Trapping, George Schildman, Frank Andelt, Jim Brunner
Nebraska Trapping, George Schildman, Frank Andelt, Jim Brunner
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Publications
Fur bearers and trapping played an important role in the exploration and development of Nebraska. The harvest of our fur-bearer resource is part of every Nebraskan's heritage. Wise use of the resource and consideration for other people's property and personal rights can insure that trapping will remain a part of the heritage of future generations. The purpose of this publication is to help insure this heritage ... through the educational process. Knowledge of and respect for the resource, as well as consideration for other people, are the keys to perpetuating trapping as an outdoor activity. While primarily designed to assist …
Environmental Reconstruction In The Orangeville Moraine, John R. Nephew
Environmental Reconstruction In The Orangeville Moraine, John R. Nephew
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
Primary sedimentary structure of topographic features in a selected portion of the Orangeville Moraine is examined for the purpose of deriving paleoenvironmental conditions existent during the formation of that feature. Five different environments could be recognized: 1. Sub-glacial tunnel, 2. Pro-glacial outwash, 3. Lacustrine, 4. Sub-glacial, and 5. Pro-glacial sub-aerial outwash.
Sub-glacial tunnels were represented topographically by discontinuous ridges and sinuous depressions, and sedimentologically by massive matrix-supported gravels. Pro-glacial outwash was represented typographically by elongated hills and ridges, and sedimentologicallyby various sediment complexes that revealed both rapid downstream reductions in flow competency, and a downstream change from fluvial to lacustrine …

Mule Deer Habitat Guidelines, Richard M. Kerr
Mule Deer Habitat Guidelines, Richard M. Kerr
United States Bureau of Land Management: Staff Publications
The purpose of this Mule Deer (Odocoileus hemionus) Habitat Management Guide is principally to assist BLM managers and biologists in planning for and managing mule deer habitat on public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management. For many years Federal land management agencies have made the distinction between the Federal responsibility for managing habitat and the State prerogatives of managing native wild ungulate populations. Certainly the two are inseparably linked. These responsibilities, and up to now "symbiotic relationships", are probably best described succinctly in Title 43 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 24.

Vesicular-Arbuscular Mycorrhiza Influence Growth But Not Mineral Concentrations In Seedlings Of Eight Sweetgum Families, Richard C. Schultz, Paul P. Kormanik, W. Craig Bryan, G. H. Brister
Vesicular-Arbuscular Mycorrhiza Influence Growth But Not Mineral Concentrations In Seedlings Of Eight Sweetgum Families, Richard C. Schultz, Paul P. Kormanik, W. Craig Bryan, G. H. Brister
Richard C. Schultz
Seedlings of eight half-sib sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua L.) families were grown for 6 months in a fumigated soil mixture, with or without inoculum from a mixture of Glomus mosseae and Glomus etunicatus fungi, at levels of 140, 280, 560, and 1120 kg/ha of 10-10-10 fertilizer. All seedlings received three additions of 187 kg/ha of N during the growing season. Inoculated seedlings had significantly greater biomass, height, and stem diameters at each fertilizer level than nonmycorrhizal control seedlings. Significant differences in growth occurred between families in mycorrhizal plants. However, fertilizer did not significantly affect growth or nutrient uptake of the seedlings. …

Gloucerstermen: Before And After "The Law", William S. Weber
Gloucerstermen: Before And After "The Law", William S. Weber
Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers
Gloucester has been renowned for its leadership in the fishing industry since colonial days. From the first failure of the Dorchester Company at Stage Fort to the subsequent glories of the schooner fleets, the story has been told in fact, fiction, poetry, and painting. The literature brings to life the beauty of the place, the dangers of the sea,and the character building of those who contested life in the North Atlantic. Most of our recorded material deals with the exploits of Yankees, Portuguese, Scandinavians, and Nova Scotians. Today, and in the immediate past, it is the Italian-American fishermen who dominate …

An Objective Forecast Method Developed For Lake Ontario Induced Snowfall Systems, K. F. Dewey
An Objective Forecast Method Developed For Lake Ontario Induced Snowfall Systems, K. F. Dewey
School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications
A research effort was initiated in 1976 to develop an objective lake-effect snowfall forecast model for each of the Great Lakes. It is the purpose of this paper to present the development and evaluation of the forecast method which was created for the Lake Ontario induced snowfall systems. All Lake Ontario lake-effect days were identified for a 10-yead period prior to the 1976 snowfall season. Upper air surface observations were combined with overlake data for these lake-effect periods. The dominant predictors were derived through the diagnostic ability of stepwise multiple discriminant analysis. The final product of this research effort was …

Lake Mead And Lake Powell Salinity Reports, Cathy Lee, Steve Gazafy
Lake Mead And Lake Powell Salinity Reports, Cathy Lee, Steve Gazafy
Publications (WR)
The enclosed reports were compiled for the Colorado River Water Quality Office based on salinity data for Lake Mead and Lake Powell. According to the regional director of the office, the reports are not considered "polished" documents for public distribution. However, he considers them to be "interesting, rough appraisals of general trends that may be very important In our understanding the hydro-salinity system in the Colorado River."
Lake Erie Induced Mesosystems- An Operational Forecast Model, Kenneth F. Dewey
Lake Erie Induced Mesosystems- An Operational Forecast Model, Kenneth F. Dewey
School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications
All Lake Erie lake-effect days for a 10-year period prior to the 1976-77 snowfall season were utilized in the development of an operational lake-effect snowfall forecast model. Upper air and surface observation were combined with overlake data and analyzed, using stepwise multiple-discriminant analysis. A nine-predictor mesoscale forecast model resulted from this statistical test and its performance was evaluated during the 1976-77 and 1977-78 snowfall seasons. The results of this evaluation indicate that it is possible to predict six intensities of the Lake Erie lake-effect snowstorm using this mesoscale model.

This annual report presents and interprets the information obtained by the Conservation and Survey Division (Nebraska Geological Survey) during contract year July 1, 1979, to June 30, 1980, under contract NRC-04-76-3l5 with the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The information pertains to the geology, structure, tectonics, and seismicity of eastern Nebraska with emphasis on the vicinity south of Omaha, Nebraska. Some of the information presented here results from a combination of studies begun in earlier years but the greater part results from studies begun during the contract year.
The scope of the studies is summarized as follows:
1. Rock outcrops …
