KWRRI Research Reports
The institutions responsible for water resources management in the United States have originated as political responses to major social issues. Each agency institutionalized a procedure for structuring and comparing alternatives in the formulation of its total program. Each agency originally sought to promote effective resolution of its social issue (flood control, development of arid lands, soil erosion, etc.), but more recent efforts have sought better coordination among agency practices through a common procedure largely derived from economic theory. Any procedure, however, varies in application with the interpretation and judgment of individual planners. Today, public pressures have brought political directives requiring …

Fracture Pattern Analysis Employing Remote Sensing Techniques For Groundwater Movement With Environmental Applications: Preliminary Report, Bradford C. Hanson
Fracture Pattern Analysis Employing Remote Sensing Techniques For Groundwater Movement With Environmental Applications: Preliminary Report, Bradford C. Hanson
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
The study will consist of determining the relationship between fracture patterns and porosity-permeability changes in carbonate rocks with emphasis on groundwater movement. These porosity-permeability changes will be measured by relative groundwater movement, in the form of either springs, artesian wells, municipal supplies, or private wells. Relationships will be determined by plotting the positions of the measuring sites and correlating these sites with mapped fractures. Water yield is expected to be markedly greater for sites along fracture traces than for those located at random.
Agriculture And Pollution In Western Australia. Part 1. Background, C V. Malcolm
Agriculture And Pollution In Western Australia. Part 1. Background, C V. Malcolm
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
For centuries there has been awareness of pollution but it has received dramatic publicity in recent years.
In Western Australia, provisions for its control are written into the Health Act and many other Acts besides the Environmental Protection Act of 1971.
A number of factors have acted worldwide and locally to increase awareness and concern about pollution, and to justify careful examination of the problems it causes.

A Review Of "Longitudinal Study" In Developmental Psychology, Emily H. Finley
A Review Of "Longitudinal Study" In Developmental Psychology, Emily H. Finley
Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this library research thesis is to review the "longitudinal study" in terms of problems and present use. A preliminary search of the literature on longitudinal method revealed problems centering around two areas: (1) definition of "longitudinal study" and (2) practical problems of method itself. The purpose of this thesis then is to explore through a search of books and journals the following questions:
1. How can “longitudinal study” be defined?
2. What problems are inherent in the study of the same individuals over time and how can these problems be solved?
A third question which emerges from …

Using A Participating Relationship To Improve Teen-Age Unwed Mother's Self-Esteem, Linda Gail Reeves
Using A Participating Relationship To Improve Teen-Age Unwed Mother's Self-Esteem, Linda Gail Reeves
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The study was to provide an approach to help teen-age unwed mothers increase their feelings of self-esteem and thereby attain a conceptual buffer for better coping with life. Self-esteem was defined as individual perception of the worth of oneself relative to that of significant others. The hypothesis tested was that the participating relationship a community health nurse has with a teen-age unwed mother will significantly increase the mother's self-esteem as measured by statistical Q-Sort analysis.
A convenience sample of twenty teen-age unwed mothers was obtained from referrals from San Bernardino County Health, Welfare, and Probation Departments. The girls were between …

Patterns Of Lakeshore Usage Around Lake Bemidji, Charles S. Holt, Roger A. Schulz, Curtis M. Hadland
Patterns Of Lakeshore Usage Around Lake Bemidji, Charles S. Holt, Roger A. Schulz, Curtis M. Hadland
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
ABSTRACT - The eutrophication of lakes has been the subject of much discussion in scientific journals and the popular press .. Usually the e.utrophication process is accelerated by human activities. This study evaluates the extent of lakeshore development and recreational use of Lake Bemidji in north central Minnesota and examines the willingness of lakeshore residents to be assessed for corrective measures to halt deterioration of this valuable recreational lake. The shoreline of Lake Bemidji is highly developed, and the high density human habitation represents a potential source of nutrients from percolation through the sand and gravel soils which surround the …

Recent Sediments Of Humboldt Bay, Eureka, California, Robert Wayne Thompson
Special Collections Archived Publications
Humboldt Bay is a coastal lagoon, 14 mi. long and a maximum of 4 mi. wide. The bay has three distinct segments, South, Entrance, and Arcata Bays, each of which occupies the seaward end of one or more stream valleys cut into Plio- Pleistocene paralic sediments. The segments are linked by narrow tidal channels which are bounded by a barrier spit on the west and by high valley interfluves on the east. Climate of the area is rainy temperate . Tides are of the mixed type with a mean range of 6.5 ft.
Textural variations of the surface sediments in …

The Generation Of Flood Damage Time Sequences, John P. Breaden
The Generation Of Flood Damage Time Sequences, John P. Breaden
KWRRI Research Reports
There is a need in water resources planning to develop a procedure for determining the time pattern in which flood damages occur as a function of the rise and fall of the flood hydrograph. The widely-used approach for estimation of flood damages does not take into account the fact that the frequency of the annual flood peak may not be the same as the frequency of the total annual flood damages. As examples, several small storms during the year may do more damage than a single larger storm, or flood damages may be reduced by a reduction in flood duration …
Attitudes Concerning Birth Control And Abortion As Related To Lds Religiosity Of Brigham Young University Students, Erlend D. Peterson
Attitudes Concerning Birth Control And Abortion As Related To Lds Religiosity Of Brigham Young University Students, Erlend D. Peterson
Theses and Dissertations
This study was an analysis of the relationship between LDS religiosity of college students and their attitudes concerning birth control and abortion.
The respondents in this research were LDS college students attending Brigham Young University Fall Semester 1970. Goodman and Kruskal's gamma and a difference of means test were used to measure association and difference to determine the statistical significance of the responses as related to religiosity and attitudes concerning birth control and abortion.
The results of the study showed that (1) there was a positive relationship between conservative attitudes toward birth control and abortion and one's degree of measured …
