A Stormwater Overflow Control Device, Richard Duke Stalker Jan 1973

A Stormwater Overflow Control Device, Richard Duke Stalker

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

On Lake Eola, stormwater runoff has been identified as a major source of pollution. Other lakes in Central Florida are experiencing similar decay due to stormwater runoff. A device has been examined for diversion of the initial flows to treatment before discharge into the lake. A graphical aid was developed to select the proper volume required for the device and was applied to a Lake Eola existing collection basin. A laboratory model was designed and constructed based on the scaled-down version of a collecting basin on Lake Eola. This model was used to demonstrate the concept, as well as, indicate …

Time Of Planting And Rate Of Seeding On Lupin Yield, G Walton Jan 1973

Time Of Planting And Rate Of Seeding On Lupin Yield, G Walton

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Of the four time of planting trials twodefinitely showed superiority of earlier seeding (73BA5, 73E6). The two trials in the Southwest (73BR14 and 73MT7) gave highest yields with June sowing compared to May. Three trials (73BR14, 73E6 and 73BA5) appear to have a Variety x Time interaction for plant density, but no definite trend for either Uniharvest or Unicrop although later sowing reduced plant density. Seeding rates in excess of 82 kg/ha gave the highest yields in all trials. The rate of seeding experiments (73BA5 and 73MT7) show that the best crop density for yield (graph) lies between 8 and …

Stratigraphic Comparison Of The Precambrian Wyman And Johnnie Formations In The Western Great Basin, California, Johnnie Nathan Moore Jan 1973

Stratigraphic Comparison Of The Precambrian Wyman And Johnnie Formations In The Western Great Basin, California, Johnnie Nathan Moore

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

The Precambrian Johnnie Formation in the Death Valley area and to the south is separable into two facies. The southern facies contains six distinct members: the transitional, quartzite, lower carbonate-bearing, siltstone, upper carbonate-bearing, and Rainstorm members. Dolomite, quartzite, and mudstone characterize the southern facies, as does the presence of the Johnnie oolite. To the north the Johnnie oolite pinches out and the amount of mudstone in the formation increases. The dominantly mudstone northern facies contains local gray limestone lenses closely similar to limestone in the Wyman Formation in the White-Inyo Mountains. Generally outcrops of the northern facies of the Johnnie …

Final Report On Interrelationships Between Chemical, Physical And Biological Conditions Of The Waters Of Las Vegas Bay Of Lake Mead, James E. Deacon, Richard W. Tew

Publications (WR)

This program was a status study of the interaction between Las Vegas Wash, an enriched stream, and Las Vegas Bay, a wedge shaped arm of one of the world's deeper reservoirs. The program centered primarily on identification and counting of planktonic algae from several points in Las Vegas Bay. Additional work on nutrient enrichment of water samples was conducted to aid in interpretation of algal distribution related to nutrient input. Examination of a variety of physical, chemical, and biological parameters, both at many surface points in the bay, as well as in vertical profile, was also accomplished and further aided …

Seasonal Movements And Habitat Selection Of Pheasant Cocks In South Dakota, Robert A. Fedeler Jan 1973

Seasonal Movements And Habitat Selection Of Pheasant Cocks In South Dakota, Robert A. Fedeler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Data were gathered on seasonal movements and habitat selection of 30 pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) cocks that were radio-equipped in eastern South Dakota from 1970 to 1972. Pheasant cocks stayed in an area of less than 100 acres from spring through hunting season. In winter, cocks used even smaller areas more intensively. Cocks moved about their home range by shifting their activity center rather than by adjustment in range of daily travel. Adult cocks seemed to have strong site attachments on a year-round basis. Immature cocks were more mobile, especially during the fall prior to hunting season. In spring, adult cocks …

A Study Of Bisimines Of Tetramethyl-1,3-Cyclobutanedione, Edward Albert Schmidt

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

It was the purpose, therefore, of this work, to investigate the preparation, properties, and reactions of bisimines of 2,2,4,4- tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanedione, to determine the chemical effects of carbon π-bonded to nitrogen. Certain of these effects are compared to carbon π-bonded to oxygen in a structurally similar environment.

The Primary Structure Of Nifungin, Marvin Lee Withrow Jan 1973

The Primary Structure Of Nifungin, Marvin Lee Withrow

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The primary structure of the antifungal peptide nifungin was studied. Amino acid analysis of nifungin before and after performic acid oxidation revealed 51 amino acids and the presence of an unidentified ninhydrin positive material. The unidentified material constituted approximately ten per cent of nifungin by weight. It contains nitrogen but, as reported by others (2), did not contain phosphate or reducing sugars. It was not hydrolyzed into smaller compounds by strong mineral acids. Carboxyl terminal analysis was conducted utilizing carboxy-peptidase A and B on both the oxidized and unoxidized nifungin. Tyrosine appeared to be released most rapidly followed by lysine, …

Carbon Interstitial In The Diamond Lattice, C Weigel, David Peak, J W. Corbett, R P. Messmer, G D. Watkins Jan 1973

Carbon Interstitial In The Diamond Lattice, C Weigel, David Peak, J W. Corbett, R P. Messmer, G D. Watkins

All Physics Faculty Publications

Linear-combination-of-atomic-orbitals-molecular-orbitals cluster calculations using the extended Hückel theory are carried out for the interstitial carbon in the diamond lattice. The results suggest that the interstitial configuration is not the tetrahedral or hexagonal site, as has been previously assumed, but is instead an "interstitialcy" configuration, i.e., either a split- 〈100〉 interstitial (which our results favor) or a bond-centered interstitial. The predicted minimum-energy configuration changes with charge state, suggesting that the interstitial in the diamond lattice is a possible example of the Bourgoin mechanism of athermal migration of a defect in the presence of ionizing radiation.

Ionization‐Enhanced Diffusion: Ion Implantation In Semiconductors, J Bourgoin, David Peak, J W. Corbett Jan 1973

Ionization‐Enhanced Diffusion: Ion Implantation In Semiconductors, J Bourgoin, David Peak, J W. Corbett

All Physics Faculty Publications

A model for the diffusion of implanted interstitials during implantation is introduced and shown to be able to account for the tails observed in ion profiles. It is argued that mechanisms of ionization‐enhanced diffusion can explain some of the anomalous diffusion mechanisms observed in semiconductors. Indications for the existence of such mechanisms in the field of ion implantation in semiconductors are discussed.
