A Technique For The Rapid Measurement Of Thermoelectric Power, G.R. Caskey, David J. Sellmyer, L.G. Rubin Oct 1969

A Technique For The Rapid Measurement Of Thermoelectric Power, G.R. Caskey, David J. Sellmyer, L.G. Rubin

David Sellmyer Publications

A new technique is described for rapid measurement of the thermoelectric power of rod-shaped specimens over a wide temperature range. The apparatus utilizes sensitive commercial dc amplifier for the sample and temperature gradient voltages and a multiple-point recorder for sampling these voltages as well as the sample temperature signal. The technique eliminates spurious thermal emf's in the leads and is based upon on-the-run recording of the sample and temperature gradient voltages as the temperature gradient slowly increases. As a test of this technique, the thermopower of pure nickel was measured between 4.2 and 300 K and the results are compared …

Beggar-Tick Injury To A Northern Cricket Frog And Two Species Of Minnows, Larry A. Witt, Leonard H. Sisson Sep 1969

Beggar-Tick Injury To A Northern Cricket Frog And Two Species Of Minnows, Larry A. Witt, Leonard H. Sisson

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Staff Research Publications

Various authors have reported on injury to small fishes by achenes of beggar-ticks (Bidem sp.) Reimers and Bond (1966) reported on injury by beggar-ticks to redside shiners, Richardsonius balteatus and young chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha. They suggested that presence of beggar-tick plants along banks of hatchery ponds and raceways might be injurious to young of the most aggressive feeders among fish. Allison (1967) described mortality of fingerling coho salmon, Oncorhynchus kisutch, caused by beggar-tick, B. cernuus, achenes. He noted losses of coho salmon 51 to 90 mm in total length held in hatchery raceways. Dead and …

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT GENERAL CONDITIONS East tractor is a production model equipped for common usage. Power consuming accessories can be disconnected only when it is convenient for the operator to do so in practice. Additional weight can be added as ballast if the manufacturer regularly supplies it for sale. The static tire loads and the inflation pressures muse conform to recommendations in the Tire Standards published by the Society of Automotive Engineers. PREPARATION FOR PERFORMANCE RUNS The engine crank case is drained and refilled with a measured amount of new oil conforming to specifications in the operator’s manual. The …

Analysis Of Heat Transfer In A Two-Layer Circular Cylinder:Constant Flux On Outer Surface And Zero Flux On Inner Surface, Mary Elena Franklin Sep 1969

Analysis Of Heat Transfer In A Two-Layer Circular Cylinder:Constant Flux On Outer Surface And Zero Flux On Inner Surface, Mary Elena Franklin

Mathematics & Statistics ETDs

The one-dimensional time-dependent equation of heat conduction is solved analytically for an infinite two-layer circular cylinder whose core may be either hollow or solid. On the outer surface of the cylinder, which has no heat loss due to convection, a constant heat flux from an external source of heating is applied uniformly. The layers are in perfect thermal contact, and there is no heat loss at their interface. At the smaller radius of the inner layer is a perfect insulator so that the heat flux on the inner surface of the two-layer cylinder is zero. The temperature is uniform initially …

Effective Rates Of Evaporation And Chemical Properties Of The Precipitates., John Lincoln Rasho Sep 1969

Effective Rates Of Evaporation And Chemical Properties Of The Precipitates., John Lincoln Rasho

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

An experiment was designed to simulate the evaporation of sea water in the laboratory. The experiment was conducted isothermally at 35 1. Chlorinity, salinity, and density of the solution were determined at different stages of evaporation. Also the trace element contents of Sr, Rb, K, and Li of the precipitates were determined to study the possible changes, and the significance of these changes, in the concentration of these trace elements in solution at different stages of evaporation.

The results of this experiment and the work of previous investigators indicate that the rate of crystallization from sea water, at any given …

Virus Movement In Groundwater Systems, William A. Drewry Sep 1969

Virus Movement In Groundwater Systems, William A. Drewry

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which soil acts as an agent in the transmission of waterborne viruses. Since many waterborne outbreaks of viral diseases have involved small wellwater supplies contaminated by effluents from subsurface wastewater disposal systems, there is a great need for such information. Results of this study show that virus adsorption by soils is greatly affected by the pH, ionic strength, and soil-water ratio of the soil-water system and various soil properties. Also, it is shown that one cannot predict the relative virus adsorbing ability of a particular soil based on the …

Sediments Of Biscayne Bay - Distribution And Depositional History, Harold R. Wanless

RSMAS Technical Reports

WANLESS, HAROLD R. (M.S., Marine Geology)

Sediments of Biscayne Bay - Distribution and Depositional History. (September 1967) Abstract of Master's Thesis at the University of Miami. Thesis supervised by Professor A. Conrad Neumann.

Three shallow elongate bays, Biscayne Bay, Card Sound and Barnes Sound trend south from Miami along the southeast Florida coast. Hand probing and coring through Recent sedimentary sequences within and bordering these bays has established the general character of the underlying bedrock topography, has revealed the general features of the sediment bodies and the spatial relations of the sediment types and has given insight into the …
